Hula is a fast food poke restaurant. I was amazed how they have 9 employees working on putting Poke bowls together during lunch time on weekday. I ordered the Yuzu Poke Bowl (Coconut House Blend, Ahi Tuna). The bowl was ok but it was very salty. The portion size was ok or somewhat small. It would be nice if they added more ahi tuna in the bowl. One thing I liked about Hula is that they have sesame on the side to be added as toppings. From my pictures, you can see how much I added. When I arrived I saw a long lineup. Right away, I went on Ritual and placed my order there. Food took about 5 mins to be prepare (while the app said 10 mins). I think it would have taken the same amount of time if I actually waited in line. So I definitely saved time by ordering on Ritual. Hula is located in Brookfield Palace. There are plenty of seats. Yes they are located in the plus 15. Hula is also located in Vancouver. The menu is very similar. I do like the Calgary location more than the Vancouver location. read more

It honestly pains me to write this. I used to be a huge Hula Poke supporter but my experience yesterday was just bad. It seems they've changed the way they prepare their dishes. It used to be served with a lot of rice, meat and a variety of great vegetables (separated) on top and now... not so much. It seems they're trying to cut costs. My experience: - I ordered double meat (tuna) and the pieces are sliced so small I'm sure I received less than I would from a competing poke place for standard meat. - Almost no rice on the bottom - They mix all the vegetables into a mass salad including dressing and meat and just dump it on the top of the rice of which its 95% salad. What happened? My favourite Poke place turned into salad on a little bit of rice. I can no longer recommend and will not return! Location: Southcentre, Calgary read more

For downtown poke this place is okay. I ordered the traditional bowl with salmon and coconut rice. Other poke places the rice is not hot and with the fish it's nice and refreshing. At Hula the rice was quite warm and there really was not much flavour to the whole bowl. The salmon was a few small pieces, I would have expected more based on my experience at other places. They are very quick - which downtown at lunch is what you want. Do not have plastic cutlery - believe it's wooden/ compostable forks, spoons and chopsticks. I have tried this place twice and it is just ok. The first time I went, I ordered the Yuzu bowl which was way too salty. I decided to give this place another chance and went with the Ancho which was better but still nothing spectacular. My main issue with this place is that they give very little fish in the poke bowls. January often means jumping on the 'healthy' bandwagon and trying to eat foods that are good for you. That's why I was very happy to find Hula in the new Brookfield building. The servings are the perfect size for me personally but I could see them being a touch small for others. So far I've tried the Nikkei, Sweet Potato (with kelp noodles), and the Lei. They have all been delicious with a nice balance of textures and flavours. The plantain chips ($2) are also great - perfectly salted and just a touch spicy. The chips are in front of the cash so just grab a bag as you're ordering. The other nice thing about Hula is that most menu items are dairy and/or gluten friendly. I don't personally have allergies but I appreciate that the menu is allergy-friendly for days I don't feel like having dairy. The line can get kinda long but they are very efficient and it's worth the wait. My new favourite lunch spot in the core! read more

Slowly but surely, I will try all the poke places in Calgary! Lucky for me, most of them are downtown (and +15 accessible!) so I can zip over during my lunch break. What I like about Hula is that they have a list of their bowls or tostadas, you just pick your protein and which flavour you'd like and that's it! Build your own bowls = long lines = extreme hanger This is a tried, tested and true mathematical equation lol I went with the Nikkei bowl which came with ahi tuna, avocado, grapefruit, red thai chili, togarashi sprinkle, crunchy peas, black sesame seeds all tossed in a wasabi lemon creama on a bed of rice and yuzu kale. All the flavours and textures worked really well together and I felt full and not lethargic after. I will however not get the red thai chilis because omg, they were super spicyyyyyyyy Get here early, or else you'll have to deal with the dreaded lunch rush and long lines! read more

Did not like. I finally decided to give this place a try after walking by them almost every day in the past couple of years and I did not enjoy it. I chose the yuzu with ahi tuna and sushi rice and while the protein wasn't as little as others have posted, there was no yuzu flavor whatsoever and the sauce they use was so salty. The whole bowl was a struggle to eat due to the saltiness and I thought I have a high salt tolerance. I prefer other poke places where I can customize my own toppings and sauces. read more

I've tried a few poke places and this is my go-to place when I'm working downtown. This isn't the type of place where you build your own bowl in the sense that you choose all of your toppings. Instead, you order the type of flavour you want, and type of protein (ahi tuna, wild salmon, tofu), and type of base (coconut rice, sushi rice, kale). I love the coconut rice and once asked what was in it - apparently sugar - which is why it's so good! The line up here at lunch is quite long but moves quickly. And I understand the common complaint about this place: that there's hardly any protein! I completely agree and still love the flavours. This is located in the new and sunny Brookfrield building and accessible by +15. read more

My friend and I tried Hula Poke. It's all right...nothing spectacular about it. Need more protein. There was hardly any salmon in our bowls. We are always on the lookout for healthy poke bowls but Hula missed the mark a bit with having no brown rice option, smaller portions of protein, way too much kale, not enough avocado, not enough sauce to coat all the white rice at the bottom, & the bowl is much smaller than most poke places in town which makes me wonder why the price is set at $11 or $12! Mind you, they do have different flavour options but it's sometimes nice to pick out what we want in the poke bowl as opposed to having a flavour already picked out for you. I like their fancy utensils that are biodegradable. I also do not like the atmosphere in that new Brookfield Place food court with all that loud squeaking chairs and tables rubbing against the shiny new marble floor. Can someone do something about that? Also, my friend took her first bite of Lei Salmon and she bit into a bit of a rock! She almost broke her teeth. Received a gift card and went to try Hula for the second time. Location is great, people are friendly. As mentioned before, it's super new so... there's a big learning curve. Service is nice, but I feel like they're scrambling a little bit. Food was good. Flavours are awesome and so different, but they could use more protein (I had maybe six or seven pieces of small tuna in mine). They don't use sushi rice, which was a surprise, but it complemented the sauces and toppings well. My friend and I went for lunch - ordered two poke bowls and two drinks (and two plantain chips) and and it came to close to $40. Not terrible but servings could be bigger, especially in comparison to places like Ola and Poke. Also, they forgot to give me my plantain chips the second time so.. I guess I'm not really having the best luck with them getting my orders right. TL;DR: bad first experience, better second experience, but they have a lot of room for improvement. Go try it if you're a fan of poke and want something different. read more

So I m a loyal client of this store because I love their salad flavors, but I have to write this review because the service I was provided was too ridiculous. There are several girls taking orders, one of them looks like Chinese, she is short hair, chubby face and ALWAYS have a shitty attitude. Every time I go, she gives me attitude of me swapping veggies i want for my bowl and ignore my mall staff discount. I literally had to put up with her attitude so many time Bc of the food. Now I m done with her and your management. Yesterday at around 4Pm, When I was placing order, she looked like she was listening but she was talking to the food prepare staff, I said it super slow, but she turned to me after I said everything and ask me to say again. I was getting mad, but I was in a rush so I said again. Then she was giving me a shitty face for exchanging the veggies I don't want to something I like in the bowl without exceeding the quantity it comes with. If they don't allow us to change the veggie they should put a sign on the board, I never seen them, and was never told by anyone that I couldn't do it. I m paying 14+ to get a poke bowl filled up by rice and a little bit veggie. When I told her I work in the mall, she said okay and ignored me. I didn't realize till I paid. So I went back in line to tell her to refund the extra she charged, but she was pretending she never heard me and refused to refund. I m pretty sure the machine comes with refund section, it's a business, not black market. I tried to write this one google review but I don't have google account. I have to post this here to remind people how awful this staff is, I would tell all of my friends and clients to avoid going to this place because of the poor service. This staff should get fired for this kind of service she is providing. She should NOT be in the industry if she doesn't know how to serve. I m truly disappointed. Too salty, had the tuna w kale only option yuzu flavour, fish was fresh but small amount for price and upon first taste was way too salty. Had to go back to ask for some rice to go with, better but still too much salt! Too bad these healthy options always overload on sugar and salt. Really good poke. A bit overpriced for the portion. But we tried this place in Vancouver and were glad to see it in our own city.

I had tuna in Juzu sauce and my friend ordered the Koko for lunch. Both of us found it way too much salty! Nothing like what I had in Hawaii. The taste of the fish was covered by the sause. Although the portion is big. I skipped dinner not sure if I was so full or sick of the amount of sauce in the poke. read more

Very cool fun concept for a "food court" place. Hip hop music both classic and new which is great because sometimes the line is long, for good reason the flavors are amazing!!!Does not take as long as it looks, the girls are very quick to get your order in and it is usually ready by the time you pay. Also I believe they are open at 10:00am now in case you wanna get there really early. My Favourites are the TIKI and the Bahamian (no clue how to pronounce). Strawberry Wai- Tai is crazy refreshing. Perfect amount of food, different (in a good way) than most generic Poke places. Great price point for $12 , each bite was a little different. I will be a regular visitor here. read more
