Founded in 1925, this might be the oldest LA Club in town. Everyone is so welcoming and there are lots of big personalities among the LABC members and gold-star newbies who made the morning unforgettable. Or as I'd like to say, lots of good eggs! The breakfast spread was thoughtful & versatile, the decorations were fun, and the secret handshake took my half-awake brain a while to get a hang of (but I finally did it by the time it was almost over). But no more spoilers as this is one place you have to experience if you're a creative soul. The draw for me? I was there to listen to the guest speaker, Justin Halpern, who's most known for his books, "Sh*t My Dad Says", "I Suck At Girls", and "Get Lost". Every Wednesday morning, a new guest speaker takes the podium. Novelists, comedians, entertainers, retirees, Disney or Bob Baker creatives, community leaders, world activists, and amazing storytellers preside over the Shrine of Friendship. Doors open at 6:45. I've been to this auditorium many times over the years, mostly to attend Los Angeles Breakfast Club…read moreevents on Wednesday mornings but I've also been to a few receptions and other parties here. This place was built in the 1960's by the Breakfast Club and given to the city in exchange for holding their meetings there. It is quite spacious with an abundance of parking in their private lot. It is a great location for larger events in that they have a stage and a large industrial kitchen. The downside is that the place needs some work. While I don't mind the 60's vibe, it seems that the city is not maintaining the space. The folding tables are quite worn around the edges and seem to be quite old. The chairs, while not completely uncomfortable, are certainly feeling their age. The kitchen, while quite large, apparently needs work. The large commercial dishwasher has been inoperable for a few years according to a staff member I spoke with, making it difficult for caterers who have to hand wash everything. Why do we pay all of these tax dollars to maintain city owned facilities? The bathrooms were remodeled somewhat recently. Whoever designed the remodel of the men's room should be fired. Who would place the hand dryer in a corner next to a urinal where both cannot be accessed at the same time. That is so odd to me. But overall, I'm happy to see the building being used. There are so few places large enough for big events that also has a large parking lot. I just wish the city took pride in the building, especially since they didn't pay for it. The least they could do is maintain it since they are charging a hefty fee for its usage.

Gabe, Lindsey, and Cami are so kind, helpful, organized, communicative, and on top of everything. We knew we were in good hands and, sure enough, the entire day ran seamlessly. One thing we especially loved was how well they accommodated our non-traditional timeline. The majority of our friends are dancers, so we made several timeline changes to maximize dancing and the overall party vibes. We had our 90 guests arrive directly into cocktail hour and kept everyone inside to explore the venue with drinks and small bites before opening the rooftop and having guests find their seats at their dinner tables. Since our ceremony was only about 15 minutes, we opted out of doing a room flip! We had our brief ceremony on the dance floor in front of the fountain, then released everyone to the dinner buffet while our immediate family joined us back inside for portraits. Afterward, we took our bride-and-groom portraits on the upper rooftop deck before returning to finish dinner. We had a couple of short toasts and then went straight into dancing. About an hour later, we opened up dessert inside in front of the gorgeous painting, then continued dancing until midnight. The Oviatt team helped make our day run so beautifully, and they worked seamlessly with our day-of coordinator and other vendors. We also chose one of their preferred caterers, California Cookout, which made coordination even easier. Having such a capable team gave us so much peace of mind and allowed us to actually relax and enjoy our wedding. The combination of a one-of-a-kind venue and a staff who truly cared about guests' experience allowed us to have a wedding that felt completely like us, and we would recommend The Oviatt in a heartbeat.

The space created an amazing atmosphere, and we are very grateful to have celebrated our wedding there. The only reason for not giving a full 5 stars was the level of communication and coordination throughout the process. Since a coordinator is included in the package price, we expected a bit more guidance and assistance during key moments of the wedding day. For example, things like organizing the processional for walking down the aisle and preparing the cake for cutting ended up being handled by family members or the bride and groom. It definitely was not something that ruined our experience, but it is something we feel future couples should be aware of when planning. We also noticed that during the last few hours of the reception, one of the staff members remained near the dance floor watching guests for an extended period of time, which felt a little uncomfortable. We completely understand the need to monitor timing and cleanup, especially since we were told the venue closed at 11 PM, but by that point all guests aside from the wedding party had already left. Despite those things, we still had a wonderful experience overall and would recommend this venue to couples looking for a truly stunning place to celebrate.

Everything from the apps to the dessert was perfect. Tips: Cornerspace location above Grammy museum. The entrance is a small door around the corner from Shaquille's. The guests get shuttles up by elevator. I read that the venue had a strict 150 event cap. For a Filipino wedding you can only imagine how difficult that is! The couple kept it adults only. A few months ago, we were driving all over downtown looking for an urban rooftop wedding venue. (I will refrain from bashing some of the terrible/unresponsive venue coordinators we met). We were losing hope, but randomly stumbled across The Terrace through a Google search. I decided to call and leave a message. Nick called me back within minutes and we scheduled a time to check-out the venue the next day. Our first impression - "wow, this place is cool!" Very urban, very chic, and very LA. And there are many options to do a dual-venue event (Grammy Museum, Novo Lounge, etc). However, I immediately ruled it out because I assumed we couldn't afford the venue. However, we were pleasantly surprised by Nick's willingness to work with us. Through the entire planning process, Nick and his team were so patient, responsive and helpful. He was a great communicator. When certain things got held-up/delayed, he would call just to give me regular updates. Wedding planning is stressful, so I can't thank him enough for his professionalism and responsiveness. Nick is awesome. But it's not just Nick... Ali at the Grammy Museum, Jessica at Wolfgang Puck Catering - everybody was amazing. Very flexible, very responsive, and so kind... The food was amazing, but I'll save that for my Wolfgang Puck Catering review (that Chicken Pot Pie... DAMN!). Our guests were amazed with the venue, especially at night when the city lights came on. The venue speaks for itself. Look at pictures, schedule a visit... it is a no-brainer. And I assure you, the Terrace team is amazing. You are in GREAT hands.
