NJ State Auto Used Cars

SCAM ALERT Avoid NJ State Auto!…read moreOur family purchased a car from Jacob at NJ State Auto, and it turned out to be a complete nightmare. The car had two unaddressed recalls, a damaged windshield washer hose from an animal chewing it and building a nest beneath the trim under the windshield, and developed (what we found out later was a) engine knocking within days. When we returned the car, they kept it for a week, ignored calls and texts, and eventually said, "There's nothing we can do. It may be an engine problem." The manufacturer's dealership later confirmed the car needed a brand new engine, less than a month after purchase. Be cautious of the positive reviews. They pressure you to leave 5-star ratings before you drive off the lot, and when negative reviews appear, their "please call us" replies lead nowhere. We repeatedly tried to reach managers Ezzy and Sam, only to be told, "Final sale, nothing we can do." Bottom line: NJ State Auto is not reputable and sells unsafe, poorly inspected cars. Save yourself the stress and go elsewhere.

Fraudulent Dealership - AVOID AT ALL COSTS | BAIT-AND-SWITCH SCAM - $17.5K Became $23K at Signing…read more(All Negative Reviews Are 100% True) I found a car listed online at $17,500. Clean Carfax, excellent service records from previous owner, located in Jersey City where I am. I did everything transparently and moved fast - visited the dealership, got a pre-purchase inspection done, and got pre-approved for financing. On the first day I visited, I asked for the out-the-door price in person and their sales guy Dre didn't break it down. Then before the inspection I called for the price and he refused to tell me on the phone, saying "when you come with your mechanic, then you can get the price." Red flag, but I proceeded. After the inspection, when I went to finalize I got hit with the REAL price by their manager Ezzy: $23,000. Shamelessly citing a markup of 31% on the listed price as if it's normal, knowing I wanted to finalize and had already invested time and money. They added around $3,500 for "work done on the vehicle" when the car was already in great condition according to Carfax, and my mechanic confirmed all the maintenance done by the previous owner before sale. For a $3500 work, the car had to be in a specially rotting condition, like wth? They claimed they replaced the tires - complete lie. My mechanic confirmed the tires were 2-3 years old, which Carfax verified the previous owner had changed. The car still had a broken fender and cosmetic issues that were never fixed. If they did $3,500 in work, why is the obvious damage still there, which is so easy to fix? They hadn't even touched the car. Then they hit me with another $1,500 "transportation fee from auction." How am I responsible for where YOU bought the car? It was listed as located in Jersey City on YOUR website. I didn't ask you to tow it from anywhere. That's YOUR acquisition cost, not mine. They disclosed ALL of this only on the day I came to finalize - after I'd already spent a week on these guys, gotten a pre-inspection, taken time off work, and gotten pre-approved. Classic bait-and-switch. They waited until I was committed, then ambushed me with over $5,500 in fraudulent fees. Some reviews also mentioned they'll add hidden costs to your loan if you finance with them. I asked to test drive the car outside the parking lot, but they refused - I could barely get it above 10 MPH in their tiny lot, how can you buy a car before driving it? They also didn't mention anything about warranty coverage. After I walked away from this scam, they called me a day or two later saying they'd reduce the price by $1,500 if I finalized immediately that day. Classic pressure tactics. I am glad I dodged this bullet. It takes a special kind of moral bankruptcy to scam consumers in this fashion. There should be basic ethics in ANY business, but these guys have none - they're predatory con artists who prey on honest people without a trace of shame or principle. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. Their online prices are fiction. They will lie about repairs, charge for phantom work, and add thousands at signing. Save yourself the time and money. There are honest dealerships out there. This is NOT one of them. Filing complaints with NJ Consumer Affairs and BBB. You've been warned.

My family bought two cars from this dealership in February 2025, a 2019 Nissan Sentra and a 2017…read moreHyundai Tucson Eco. At first, everything seemed great. The staff were friendly, and we were assured both cars were inspected and in good condition. That was far from the truth. Before making the final payment, my boss (a mechanic) and I looked at both cars ourselves since their policy limits test drives to a 5-mile radius. We did what we could, but real issues surfaced after taking them home. 2019 Nissan Sentra: Within a week, it needed an oil change, filters, new tires, and brakes. By March, the transmission started slipping so badly I couldn't accelerate on the highway. In April, the check engine light came on with all transmission-related codes. While it was under limited warranty, the dealership only offered $1,500 toward the $3,500+ CVT replacement. Luckily, Nissan had a recall, which they never told me about, so it was covered by the manufacturer. After getting it back, the car died in the street due to a dead battery. Clearly, the car sat for too long without being maintained. 2017 Hyundai Tucson Eco: During the test drive, I pointed out a rattling in the rear. Abdul claimed he'd take it to Hyundai for a recall and 27-point inspection (done by Lynnes Hyundai in Bloomfield). We were told everything was fine. Not true. The windshield had a visible crack that had been poorly repaired and is now spreading. We were promised it'd be covered, then later told it wouldn't be. The car shakes on acceleration and the exhaust system clearly needs replacing (I confirmed this at my job, I work for a mechanic). The door lock didn't work, I had to replace the actuator and remove a piece of metal jammed in the cylinder. The battery also died, and the tire pressure sensors weren't programmed correctly even after new tires were installed. The worst part? The dealership stopped responding. My dad's texts and my calls went unanswered. I had to call from a different number just to get someone to pick up. Once you drive off the lot, you're on your own. I understand these are used cars, but we were repeatedly told everything would be taken care of. It wasn't. We were misled, ignored, and left to fix problems they should've disclosed. The trust is gone, especially with Abdul. They present themselves as helpful and kind, but that changes the moment something goes wrong. Don't make the same mistake we did.

Over the phone they will tell you the only fee they add on in a dealership fee. This is the first lie. I arrived to see a car nothing like the one photographed in the showroom, with a broken windshield and big dents in the bumper. The real kicker is that they wouldn't let me test drive it until I agree to a substantial portion of additional fees (about 1/2 the value of the sales price!) that they didn't mention over the phone. So I walked out and gave them the middle finger. The guy literally ran after me down the street telling me they'd try to reduce the fees, and any other dealer will tack on fees, too. True, they will, but at least they are honest about the fees up front and don't change them when you get there. I went to another dealer in Brick (Vantage Auto) selling almost the exact same car who gave $300 discount from what we discussed over the phone because of an obvious mechanical problem. Deal was done in less than one hour. If you're looking for a used car in Jersey I highly recommend them instead. I give this place two stars and not one -- the extra star is for the entertainment value. Where else can you go where you feel you are plunged back into the 1920s with Al Capone and his shady buddies? These people are basically harmless if you don't let them take advantage of you. If you want to wander around a really bad neighborhood, visit this place, go in and fuck around with them a little, then be prepared to walk out. Fun that such places still exist in this world.

After doing some research on my own, I expected this to cost at most $50 so when I received a bill for $150, I was shocked. I worked with Curtis while I was there who was super helpful and very welcoming when I arrived. When I received the bill, he helped explain everything to me and resolve some of the questions I had. Overall, if you're visiting this location for a full service check, oil change, etc, I'd recommend this location and working with Curtis, but if you have a minor issue, I'd probably just go to your local gas station as the pricing will likely be way cheaper.

Was told there arent any forced add-ons now included in the price. The moment we arrivd, the sales person was clueless about everything. He was adamant on a test drive but I said let's talk price. He lied so much that he forgot what he was saying. He said the color did not haave an added fee. He said $799 is DMV fee plus $500 for registrations. Once I questioned it, I later switched to $799 being documentation fee. Experience was piss poor. He convicned me that my insurance gives me a discount if I have VIN Etching as though the VIN is not already on the car. His manager then proceeds to come out with a much higher price. We simply told him, Thank you and was ready to leave. He was more upset that we were trying to explain that I want him to lose $5000 on a car. Instead of arguing, I got up and left. The experience here was extremely poor.
