Now I'm wondering do they think it gets heated properly under lightbulbs? Carrots - okay. Broccoli salad - who puts those 1980's crusty, fake red bacon bits in food? Have you never had real bacon?!? Now understand, I love bread. You can ruin the food, but if you're a bakery (plus restaurant) then you have to have good bread, right? Wrong. So so wrong. I don't know how old that Mexican cornbread was, but it had an AARP membership. At this point, I've lost count of the red flags and have spiraled into despair. Although in new digs, the decor evokes the ambience of the original Shack, resulting in an interesting, funky place to enjoy their food. This time I had the mushroom burger with sweet potato fries, and the large serving of angus beef did not disappoint. Our friendly server made sure our diet cokes and water kept up with our thirst, and we were happy we could still count on our oasis The Shack. I ordered the two piece whole catfish, turnip greens, cheese grits and onion rings, I was going to order their crab bisque but, my waitress advised against it. That should have been my warning shot. The catfish tasted like strong ammonia and the flesh was extremely mushy. Hands down the worst catfish that I ever ate as it did not taste safe at all. I never even tried the Turnip greens as they looked very old and the grits looked no better. Woke up Saturday to extreme stomach pain that the led to 36 hours of bathroom issues that took me out the whole weekend. I don't know what the problem is at this place, but apparently fresh seafood is not on the menu.
