"You KNOW what the news is ... in a minute, you're going to hear the REST of the story." (commercial minute: The Methodist Hospital in Sugar Land is very good. ) A relatively young man dressed in a jumpsuit, driving an ordinary van, saw that we needed help getting a woman in pain out of our van, and offered his help for free. He did an excellent job. He gave us his card in case we ever needed his services in the future. After his exceptional help, we were quite surprised at what was written on his business card. And, now .......... The Rest Of The Story (TROTS) ... M is in severe pain and needs to get to the hospital for diagnosis. We struggle to get her out her wheelchair and into our van, but she cannot move (pain and meds) and screams and suffers as we put her in the car. As we drive, getting her out at the hospital is weighing on our minds. At the hospital, and about to drive away in his van, but seeing that we needed help getting a near-90-yr-old woman on meds out of our van, a man offered to lift her and put her into a wheelchair. He was younger, bigger and stronger than me, as well as a licensed EMT. M was screaming in pain when we had tried to get her out of the van. So we gladly accepted his offer to help. He did a perfect job, without any cries of pain from the suffering patient. He was super nice, too. We were impressed and grateful. Later, after the hospital tests, we decided to use his company's transport service to get her home. It was short notice, but the nice man arranged for a transport to arrive in 15 minutes. That too, was an excellent, on-time, friendly, painless and professional event by a strong young lass. The next day, the severe pain led to emergency transport to a hospital in TMC where she was diagnosed as having spinal disc rupture and a fractured disc. Surgery was the only solution to relieve the pain. ... Oh.... And what was written on the nice stranger's business card? ... "CEO" We thought Texas Critical Care was a small company, because neither we nor the staff at the hospital had ever heard about them. Later, we found out they are much bigger, with a fleet of vehicles. After we told our story to the hospital staff, copies of his business card have been passed around the hospital in case of similar transport needs for customers. Clearly, a CEO did not need to offer help for free. After all, they have "more important" things to do, don't they? But, I think I understand how he rose from an EMT to CEO. And now you know ... the REST of the story! ---- P.S. See www.paulharveyarchives.com/trots/ for actual Paul stories.

I recently had a business trip and needed a ride to the airport. First tried the local Yellow Cab, and they make the Keystone Cops look like a well-oiled machine. They said, 'we cannot guarantee a driver will show up that early in the morning' ! I called City Center Limos and their Mr. Makesh picked me up exactly on time and delivered a safe, smooth and relaxing ride to the airport. Credit-card processing, e-mail confirmation of reservations, drop-off and pick-up were all done with a high degree of care, attention and promptness. Their service and professionalism is outstanding. As someone who needs a 100%-reliable ride to the airport, I would not trust anyone else. *****

It was specifically requested for the driver to be inside the international terminal with a sign with my colleague's name on it which is standard for this type of service. The driver was not there, parked in the wrong location, and then left! The manager eventually admitted that it was a new driver, but I would expect that this should be a fairly straight-forward process. It took at least 30 minutes of calling the company and my colleague to reassure that he would be taken care of. After delays a new driver was there and took my colleague to the hotel. When i spoke to the new driver he was persistent on my payment for the service, though I had already prearranged with the company. I have ensured that City Center Limos & Taxi will no longer be used by my company for hired auto transfers.

I have been caring for my 96 year old mother (with dementia) in my home for several years now and I can honestly say that I would not have been able to walk this journey had it not been for the help of the wonderful people at Touching Hearts at Home. Not only have I gotten so many tips and support from these folks, they have bent over backwards to provide us with caregivers so that my husband and I can continue to go to church, go to choir, and have "date" nights. These loving folks provide overnight care as well so we are able to take short vacations and visit friends and family (two of my children live out of state). Every caregiver treats my mom as though she was their own. It is such a wonderful feeling to know you are leaving your mother in such capable hands. To all those that are trying to figure out how to care for their elderly parent(s), I highly recommend that you contact these fine people. They have truly been lifesavers for me.
