The instructor is manipulative and untrustworthy, and I would not feel comfortable recommending his school to anyone, especially women. He doesn't seem to know the difference between what is appropriate behaviour to women and what crosses the line, and in the past, has blatantly gone past that line in the guise of "coaching". This is very troubling, and when you couple it with the student teacher power dynamic, it is downright dangerous. In February 2019, the majority of students left because of the instructors conduct towards some of the women that trained, and a lack of integrity as an instructor. The school recently also lost their Machado association membership because of his behaviour. Here are just some of the things I observed when I trained there: - instructor would only roll with the female students - Wouldn't help some of the guys when they were preparing for competition - Students weren't allowed to cross-train at other schools - Instructor would badmouth absent students during class - Was constantly on his phone instead of focusing on the class - Would initiate unwanted and/or inappropriate physical contact with the female students - Wouldn't let go of a choke submission during sparring when one of the women was tapping Teachers like him all claim that what they are offering is unique and special, but the reality is that you can get the exact same thing down the road. It's not special, it's just mediocre. There are MUCH better places to train.

A year ago, the majority of students left the Academy due to the instructor's poor conduct, coupled with the realization that the training itself was of low quality. When I trained there, the instructor would regularly spend over 20 minutes of an hour-long class making the students sit down in front of him while he shared his political/ personal views and berated certain students for not training enough, creating a toxic atmosphere. He would tell his students not to bad mouth other schools, and then would proceed to explain why the Eke Academy was a superior school that was somehow more enlightened than other places that only trained "thugs." Meanwhile, the instructor only has a purple belt in jiu jitsu, yet boasted that the school has the best jiu jitsu in the city (not true, I assure you). A year after most students left the Academy, the Machado Association revoked their affiliation with this school. The instructor promoted the Academy as an empowering place for women to train, yet would blatantly hit on the female students, at times refusing to let women train with any male except him. Due to a recurring pattern of inappropriate and harmful behaviour, many women left the school because they felt uncomfortable training there. I wasn't going to write a review, but I don't want anyone to walk blindly into this school without a healthy dose of caution and background knowledge. Pursuing the martial arts is truly a rewarding path, and I assure you there are healthier places to train in Victoria where the teaching is of a significantly higher caliber.
