I requested a custom backgammon board with my family crest engraved on it. The board that came back to me is a work of art! Highly recommended and worth every penny!!

Beautiful carved boards and pieces. Great place to buy gifts. Wish they had boards on sale.

The shop has another location in Hudson, NY. [Parking]: Metered parking in Atwater Village, but luckily I found a metered parking spot across from the shop at 5 PM on Saturday. [Selection]: Very organized shop as pens are ordered by rainbow color. The shop sells a decent selection of Valentine's Day cards. The staff was friendly and even asked customers on what they were looking for. In addition to greeting cards and stationery, they also have candles, tote bags, etc. The shop also offers gift wrapping service and apparently they even sell red rose bouquets during Valentine week. [Gift wrapping service]: The service is only available at brick & mortar locations. Materials are purchased separately and holiday rush fees may be applied. The shop offers complimentary gift wrap on all in-store purchases (customer's choice of kraft box or kraft wrap with twine). During the busy holiday season, the staff may asks customers to drop off gifts and pick up at a later determined time. * Small (e.g. Small Book, Journal, Pen Box, Candle) = $8 * Medium (e.g. Shoe Box, iPad, Shirt Box) = $10 * Large (e.g. Oversized Books, Laptop, Coat) = $12 * Extra Large (oversized) (e.g. Oversized Kids Toys, Bedding Sets, Large Framed Art, TV) = $20+ [Conclusion]: The shop has a more diverse selection and is not limited to just Japanese style cute stationery. This is really a one-stop shop for anyone looking for a last minute gift.

Treehaus, on the other hand, had a ton of pieces that I've never seen before, either in Los Angeles or elsewhere. This shop carries a couple lines of interesting jewelry collections (I particularly liked the more industrial/brutalist of them), a range of adult and baby clothes and an interesting and eclectic line of eye wear. While the adult clothing skews toward femme, I would describe many of them as unisex, which fits the cool queer/feminist vibe of the shop. There were a lot of cool housewares that, again, I've never seen before. These range from the practical (metal soap dishes) to the purely aesthetic (fun art prints of famous spots in LA.) Lots of retro designs can be found to decorate your living space. Other things I really enjoyed: a human bone and organ ink stamp collection, fun notebooks and adorable stuffed animals. And of course, they had a great collection of books and cards. Prices were on par for quality. It's very middle of the road for a gift shop or boutique. The clerks on duty were friendly and personable. I would definitely have felt comfortable going to them with questions. I will definitely return the next time I'm shopping for a friend.

You will find a wide range of gifts, at very reasonable prices. Some of these items include small ceramic pieces such as vases and small dishes suitable for stashing jewelry or other trinkets, crocheted animals and artistically designed maps of cities. I have also enjoyed the handmade soaps and other lovely, fragrant body products. I have often admired the jewelry on display, made by artisans running small businesses. There are a number of very interesting pieces: a gold/silver duo-tone necklace recently caught my eye and there are a number of pieces using labradorite and other less "mainstream" stones. As someone who write people frequently via snail mail, I have come to rely on Sumi's as one of my primary supplier of cards. Regardless of when I shop, I always find something that either a) cracks me up or b) is perfect for a message to a particular friend of family member. You will also find cute stuffed animals, scarves, posters, naughty cross-stitch patterns and more. Sumi's has a gift for just about anyone. Sumi and the other staff members have been universally friendly and willing to chat about various pieces they carry in the store. If you are shopping for presents, I would highly recommend a visit.

Archie happens to to be in love with Amanda, and who can blame him...she's super sweet and so knowledgeable! Doesn't hurt that she has some treats for him too. It's a perfect shop to get a cute birthstone necklace for your niece, stunning crystals for your friend's new home, and a gorgeous kimono styled piece for yourself! (Heck, get the cute 'tiny gold dot circle stud earrings' for yourself too! SELF-CARE IS IMPORTANT!) We all know the value and importance of supporting small businesses, and Mae Mae has been an amazing FEMALE-OWNED business that has made me smile for years. I'm lucky to live so close to it. Archie agrees. It's a weekly stop for us! (I'm so going back for the square stud earrings on our next walk!)

I recommend coming here with a friend or a small group since the shop is pretty small and there were only two seats at the bar!
