Harold is great with the kids and really focuses on development. One of the best trainers in LA.

LAAC has changed a lot since my last review from 10 years ago. It continues to have the best pool…read morewith advanced filtration system that does not make me feel like a chlorine tablet after swimming. But it now caters to a younger crowd and has substantial co-working space. I've certain found more members using the facilities but also discovered quite a bit of new programmings like the Pilates classes, mahjong club, live jazz performances and movie nights. I was not really sure about the change at the beginning but I am now fully embracing the new LAAC. Many of the staff and members have been here for a long time and it is nice to be greeted by familiar faces when coming to the club. The restaurants are pretty decent. Love to top my salad with a nice piece of salmon after workout at the Famous Players or have a tasty glass of scotch while enjoying the live jazz performance at the Invention. The sports bar Duke's has great happy hours and fun monthly evening karaoke or chess club meetings. The only thing I complain about is the need for shock absorbance and insulation of the noise or moving the weight station. The northwest corner of the Famous Players near Olive Street shakes every time the weightlifters drop their weights, which is very annoying and distracting for the diners. Feel like the ceiling or floor is going to drop out. No joke. For now, I would sit as far away from the northwest corner as I possibly can. But hope the club would look into it. I have been trying to sign up for the monthly wine tasting but they are always full. Maybe consider having the event more frequently or scale up? Regardless, I am still exploring all the new offerings at the club and really pleased with the Pilates classes and the live music performances. Although I am apprehensive when I first see the co-working space and the influx of new members, I now appreciate the additional events and classes that come with the new members and hope the club continues to do well and do better as I am here to stay.

I recently stayed here for a conference, and everything screamed vintage but athletic club, too…read more The hotel room is VERY spacious, though it erred on the side of dark. As usual, water in the room costs money, and there are a few other products with hidden price tags in the room, too. Surprisingly, toothbrush and toothpaste was not provided. The water for showering also doesn't get too hot. In terms of the athletic space, the machines were very easy to access. There was never a wait even on weekend afternoons. The lap pool was my favorite part - clean and calm. There was some miscommunication between the lobby and the store, as one said there is no reservation system but there in fact was. But even when told all the lanes were fully reserved, more than half weren't in use. Parking is a bit of a hassle; for non-members it's definitely not worth it. At the time of visit, the parking machine wasn't working. There are also sperate elevators for parking vs the athletic club / hotel area which was a little confusing. The stair numbers also didn't coordinate the best with actual level.

This is the "Brandon Special" by Esther, not on the menu. I don't know what's in it but it's delish.

A few notes to consider before reading any equinox reviews:…read more* I go to multiple equinoxes in LA and OC. This review leverages the experience of these other equinoxes in mind * Lots of entitled and spoiled people go to Equinox and consider even minor every day hiccups huge inconveniences worthy of the death penalty. They come onto yelp and leave disgruntled reviews. Make sure to adjust for this. Parking (****) - like any gym in LA, real estate is tight and parking validation only lasts for a limited time. Westwood gym is a 2 hour validation and going from the parking to the gym is quick and easy. Above average compared to other gyms. LAFitness right across the street is 90m and you'll spend over 10 minutes getting to and from your car. I still think this is not enough for a gym visit so I take my scooter and dont have to worry about it. I'm surprised there aren't more e-bikes or scooters. Gym layout(***) Also needs the caveat of: like any gym in LA real estate is tight... this means small floor layouts separated by stairs and more stairs. The gym could have been designed with better use of floor space. They have the equipment seprated by type (free weight, assisted) which is unfortunate. It would be better if all the leg equipment was in one place, all the chest equipment in another, regardless of whether it's free weight or not. Still this is just a minor gripe. Customer Service (**) - this is where all the LA gyms suffer. It's just... LA. Compared to the OC gyms the CS is really mediocre but compared to LA it's probably above average. This is probably a plus for busy gym goers that don't want to be bothered with pleasantries but coming from OC, where all the employees give you genuine hellos, smiles, fist bumps, shoot off quirky compliments as you lift, make you feel at home, know you by name...it is kind of dry. Pool (??) - can't really comment as I dont swim but you can see the pics. Not all the LA gyms have a pool so i'm assuming this is a plus. Steam room (***) - just average. The clientelle doesn't quite know how to use the eucalyptus oil spray so it's always musty. Spray that shit constantly on the steam homies. Boxing (*****) - i love this boxing gym. No speed bag but it's a separate room with double end bag, heavy bag, and a tear drop bag. Usually empty. Some people kind of dick around in there for a whole hour but I mostly see people doing efficient hard core works outs and stepping out within 20-30 min. So if you brought your e-scooter, not a big deal to wait for it to open up. Usually empty when i show up Overall this is my go to gym in LA. Occasionally i'll go to culver city or santa monica for a change of scenery but i like this one best.

No gym etiquette at any of the locations. This guy is having a full LOUD conversation on the phone…read morewhile strolling on the treadmill - something that could be done on a sidewalk. Wearing lots scents/cologne. Those of us trying to actually run one by one abandoned the treadmills. Equinox is not a serious workout facility. Working out requires focus. No one says anything to these people. And the little index card signs aren't cute, they're ineffective.

I am a long-time member of Easton Gym (since 2013!) and have come to know the community quite well…read more Easton is a gem in Los Angeles and the place where I was able to transform my fitness alongside some of the most knowledgable staff and trainers in the city. Easton's owner Toby and his passionate staff have facilitated a respectful and supportive community over a long period of time where all bodies are welcome, member input is prioritized, and most importantly, re-racking your weights and putting shit back where you found it is the norm! Working out at Easton feels like being part of a long tradition in Los Angeles. Even though the equipment isn't as new or exciting as other places and "it doesn't have air conditioning!" as everyone LOVES to say, nothing beats working out within Easton's beautiful brick walls, amongst vintage windows that catch a refreshing cross-breeze and dumbbells that look like they were carried by strong men in the 1940's. Easton rarely gets frustratingly crowded, and its members overall are simply RESPECTFUL, relaxed, authentic, and make this the type of business you can only find in Los Angeles. I love Easton gym!
