He was straightforward, honest and told me about all of my options, not just the ones that involved hiring him. I ended up choosing Jake to represent me that day. It is one of the best decisions I've made. He knew the process inside and out and he helped me every step of the way. It was obvious the judge knew him. I'm overall quite disappointed in my experience with Mr.McGrath. I'm an attorney, myself, though I…read moredo not practice family law. I was originally recommended to a different lawyer at this firm. Farnoosh, the administrator, highly recommended I consult with Mr.McGrath, instead, and ultimately I signed a Fee Agreement to retain him. Nearly immediately, he was scheduled for a trial out of state, so I waited. Mike suggested I move forward on my own, and I followed his direction impeccably. I found it very challenging to gain timely communication from him, which was frustrating. At one point, he suggested bringing another associate attorney on the case so someone would be able to get back to me sooner while he was preparing or in trial, but I ultimately decided against this option for fear there would be too many cooks in the kitchen & I'd burn through my retainer. When I finally scheduled a call with him, sure enough, he'd brought an associate attorney into the call. I found this confusing & unnecessarily costly. During that call, Mr.McGrath refused to listen to requests regarding a transition plan for my child. The logistics worked better for all involved the way I repeatedly explained, but Mr.McGrath got angry. Ultimately I told him that I was going to get off the phone because he wasn't listening and I'd said the same thing literally four times. This experience was bizarre. I felt completely unheard and even as though my lawyer -- the person who ostensibly would be advocating for me -- was instead fighting me. NEVER A GOOD SIGN! I followed up with Farnoosh because I'd found the entire exchange odd & uncomfortable. I told her that Mike asked if I wanted another attorney involved and I responded NO, but then... there she was! Farnoosh, who initially when I called was sweet, seemed genuinely concerned, and very competent; was now (once I'd signed the Fee Agreement) curt, cold, and also quite strange. When I simply inquired about the firm policy regarding including additional attorneys and if I could expect advance notice before I was charged more, she got defensive, even saying that she felt I was "threatening" her. WHAT?!? The whole situation was beyond strange. Ultimately I received a letter from Mike claiming I was disrespectful to his staff. If asking questions about your case is disrespectful, then I simply cannot recommend this attorney or the firm. In the end I paid them nearly $2,000 and they literally did nothing on my case. I was charged for simple emails trying to schedule, ask basic questions based on Mike's ridiculous plan that I represent myself, and a variety of emails just trying to have basic communications. $2,000! Not one shred of benefit! You draw your own conclusions, but that was my recent experience. Good luck!
