We were at Eleanor Tinsley Park to enjoy the view of the Houston skyline at dusk, and decided to come here because it's so closeby. I was worried about coming here at night. Luckily, there's a cop/guard stationed right in front of the memorial, so i felt safe wandering around. The monument is well lit at night. But this also means the big lights obstruct your view of the skyline. If you come during the day, there's plenty of greenspace around the area. Spend a few hours enjoying the great outdoors while you're out. Wondering if you can actually climb the monument? So was I...and I still am. Apparently others have done it. I tried. I figured, hey, the monument it looks like a staircase. I should probably climb it. But the guard yelled at me to stop after taking two steps up. Parking - there's about 4 parking spots right in front of the memorial. I don't know if other spots nearby exist.

The indoor museum was closed and we thought the whole park was closed at first, but no, it was just hot and most sane people were indoors. Hey, we're Minnesotans, we thrive in harsh weather conditions, mother nature be damned. We wandered around the grounds to see what this place had to offer. The monument with reflecting pond was cool to walk around, it is a really tall monument that can be seen for miles. Not a lot of stuff is built up around it though, so it feels way out in the middle of nowhere. It was also somewhat unnerving that we didn't see other people. A few more crazy people like us came after awhile and eased our nerves. It seems most people give a quick walk around the tower and then leave. Unfortunately, there was no battleship on the property as some other sites and reviews mention. That was a bummer, I would have gladly paid to take a look at that piece of history. That was kind of the ticket I used to get my family here, so once they figured out there wasn't a boat here, we packed up the car and left. Still a great piece of history that holds a special place in the heart of Texans (and the nation) everywhere. Interesting historical story to read about later too after visiting the site and seeing it first hand.

With the launch of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas railroad affectionately known as the "Katy Railroad" helped farmers transport the rice crops. Katy railroad is how the name of the city was generated. By the late 1900s, rice farming was a core staple for Katy, TX and formed the basis of the economy. There are restaurants, movie theaters, shopping, entertainment, venues, etc. You really don't have to leave KATY to do much of anything. Everything that you may need is here I can remember when Mason Road had no businesses from I 10 to Morton Ranch and now it's grown and businesses on both sides that been developed. At the time when I moved here Martin ranch stopped at Mason Road. It didn't go all the way through like I did now that was a great improvement. Also 99 stopped at I10 and now it goes almost around the whole city. You will enjoy your time here when you visit or if you live here.
