Set just outside the village of Foolow, is Housley Cottage Bed and Breakfast accommodation. Accessed from the fairly busy A623, be aware though, the entrance is easy to miss. Ample parking outside the main house or next to the cottage that is being renovated, Housley Cottage's location in the picture of tranquillity, set in beautiful gardens and surrounded by farmland, this is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of modern life. There are four rooms, but at the time we visited, only one of the others was occupied and surprisingly reasonable in price (£66 per night for the two of us), it really was a bit of a find. The room had a queen size bed, storage facilities, a HD TV, and tea and coffee making facilities (fresh milk in the fridge downstairs too!). Stunning views from the window onto the beautiful garden and the expanding countryside beyond, the sound of birds and the occasionally mooing cow, were the only thing that punctuated the air. The only slight downside to the room, was the size of the bathroom, I think the word is cosy, just big enough for a toilet, a basin and a shower, a little too small.
Waking up to the sounds of birds at the break of dawn, and a cockerel that wasn't sure of his wake-up call, was a great way to start the day; as was the breakfast on offer, a superb Full English, great local products and a sizeable portion too. A good selection of cereals, fruit and yoghurt, as well as an endless supply of toast, and good strong coffee, its not hard to see why Housley Cottage is frequented by so many hikers. The owners were friendly too, passing the time of day, and suggesting places to walk and eat. read more
