the best wedding food i've ever had! food was definitely our number one priority & they delivered! ashleigh was our first point of contact for booking a tasting & she was super quick to respond & answered all our questions thoroughly. (she also sent us a ton of referrals since she's a wedding coordinator herself; we ended up using the bar service she rec'd which also tasted great for a reasonable price.) the tasting for up to 6 ppl was in a lowkey pho restaurant in san marcos (dessert not included). they said tastings didn't typically include hors d'oeuvres, but they saved some from the event they did the day before. every dish was great, even our v picky families approved. our place settings were also done up w all the dinnerware that's included w their fee. (just note they accept zelle & check for payment, not cc, so be aware of your bank's transfer limits or come prepared w a checkbook.) from then on our point of contact was alexus, who was also rly responsive. she was our liaison w her rental vendors so we could get linens, also at a rly reasonable price then on the day of, ashleigh was the coordinator on-site & the courses came out quick. the food was just as good as the tasting & got so many compliments! each guest i talked to had a different favorite course (including hors d'oeuvres & dessert) which just proved they were all great. (*i will say, the portions were smaller, but since food costs in general doubled between our tasting & the wedding, it was understandable. guests were still full but just didn't have as much to-go) ofc the day was such a blur, so we were a little bummed that we weren't able to enjoy our sweetheart meal to the fullest. but the great part was, chef tho invited us back to the restaurant so we could have another meal! they timed it w another couple's tasting, so the menu was different from ours but still delicious. it just further cemented that you can't go wrong w any of their dishes [now, were there a few minor hiccups along the way? sure. if we could go back in time, we'd know a 6' round table fits 10 guests more comfortably than 5'. we'd know "complimentary" services are still subject to sales tax & gratuity, so it's more like they're heavily discounted vs 100% free. we would've relied on our bar to serve the soda. & we would've specified how to cut the cake so we wouldn't have run out as early (but to be fair this was prob our coordinator's fault). but ultimately these were all minor issues compared to how great the food was & how happy we were overall.] tldr: def recommend! hott was easily the best thing about our reception! read more

I was trying to look for a caterer for a party that my husband and I were hosting in a large vacation home in Ramona that would be able to support my desire to have a more East Asian style of food, as most of the caterers in the region were mainly American style. After browsing several sites looking for suitable caterers, I landed on Hott Catering. I sent out emails to several caterers as backups, but Hott Catering was the only one who replied. Luckily it was the caterer I was most hoping for. I also knew I was pressing my luck since most caterers were already booked. Alexus called me the following day, and she sent me the details of the different options they had, and asked what day we were interested in having their service. They ended up having another party to serve the same day, but said hey have enough staff for two parties, and I would have a different chef (other than Tho). After talking with Alexus we chose the Family Style Gold Package that was the following: Appetizers: Snow Crab Soup with Asparagus & Quail Egg Thai Style Black Tiger Shrimp Cocktail Salad Main courses: Grilled Whole Scallop Top with Cheesy Baked Crab Casserole Lobster Tails with Chef's House Special Sauce Crispy Swai Fish Filet with Spicy & Sweet Passion Fruit Sauce Marinated Beef Short Ribs Stewed with Herbs & Red Wine Sauce Served with Japanese Udon Noodles Shanghai Roasted Chicken Drumsticks with Organic Turmeric Rice Dessert: Sweet Pearl Dessert with Pandan Aroma I decided to do a tasting with them at their Pho restaurant in San Marcos where they had us taste the meals we were interested in, minus the dessert (that was originally a Taro Pudding), but that we switched out for the Sweet Pearl Dessert. Everything was unbelievably delicious. I have two nephews that have dairy and nut allergies, and one of them also have an additional allergy of egg and sesame oil. And a sister in law that is pescatarian. Alexus was so kind with my requirements in trying to accommodate me with their dietary restrictions, which was about $140 additional charge for each. She threw in an extra plate for free that included a lobster tail for both of my nephews when I asked about it since their meals did not include the lobster since it typically includes dairy. She said she would add in the lobster tails for free, which made me relieved and grateful at the same time. I was worried how my nephews might feel if they saw everyone receive the lobsters. They also were SUPER gracious in letting me add an extra special meal for my husband's cousin who was allergic to gluten-free very last minute despite the contract having already been finalized and all the initial payments were made. When it came to the day of the party, everything mostly went well. There was a bit of a mixup since it wasn't Tho that was the chef because the servers did not realize that the free lobsters were included the contract. I had asked them about it, and they went to ask the chef and came back and told me that unfortunately the remaining lobsters were already cooked with dairy which made me incredibly disappointed since I had told my nephews they were getting lobster tails. They went back a third time and came back to clarify with me that actually they were wrong, the remaining lobsters were NOT cooked with dairy yet. I'm so happy it was all resolved but it stressed me out a bit at the time. My nephews and my sister in law were served after the food had come out for everyone else first. And for a 12 and 9 year old, patience is definitely not their strong suit when being hungry. I wasn't sure if my husband's cousin was served separately but I imagine so. Looking back, I think I might have gone the buffet style way. The reason being was because there were many children at my party that I chose not to order meals for with HOTT catering and it made the seating along with how the food was served confusing for both the servers and the guests that were parents. HOTT catering supports buffet style, family style and individual plate and it was just messy in the end. The dishes were all delicious (to me) and there was so much food! Many people packed home the overflow of leftovers! I wasn't sure how it went over with my husband's family who are not used to East Asian flavor and cooking, but I can't speak to their taste in food =). It was also very hot that day out in Ramona so it added to the chaos. Alexus was excellent with communication, incredibly responsible, and understanding. Tho was an excellent chef, and their other chef was also very nice, though his accent was slightly stronger. Both my husband and I were communicating with the servers and the chef going back and forth so it was a bit chaotic as we didn't have a party planner. I chose not to reserve tables and chairs and went to another company, but they do provide that service. I highly recommend them and you will be overjoyed! (hit max character limit!) read more

I am not a San Diego native, but I was fortunate to have my dream wedding in San Diego earlier this month. Let me tell you that HOTT Catering provided me and my wife with the best wedding catering experience I could have asked for. They were professional, flexible, and kind throughout the entire process from when we first found them to the day of our wedding. Most importantly, their food was top notch. As someone who was raised in a Chinese household and my wife being Korean, both our families are quite particular about our respective cuisines. Through the whole process, Chef Tho and Alexus were kept working with us to help us get our dream menu for our guests and let me tell you, they absolutely raved about how delicious the food is. We are still hearing about it to this day. In addition, Ashleigh, our point person on the day of the wedding was beyond professional and warm. She independently handled the entire catering side of the service and set it up perfectly without any issue. I can't thank HOTT Catering enough for all their help in making my dream wedding come true, and I would recommend them in a heartbeat to anyone looking for a wedding or event caterer specializing in Asian cuisine. You will be in excellent hands from start to finish. read more

My husband and I were fortunate enough to have HOTT cater our wedding in San Diego! We both are Vietnamese and having good wedding food was super important to us and our families. The majority of our wedding guests were family and friends that flew from all over (Bay Area and Sacramento, Texas, Georgia, etc.) and the fact that all of our guests complimented the wedding dinner made us feel super accomplished! Alexus and Chef Tho are so friendly and they made the wedding planning process easy for us as well. We were also pleased with how the HOTT team presented themselves at our wedding and they made the table setting elegant with their dish ware! We highly recommend HOTT, you won't regret it! read more

So good, our guests literally APPLAUDED Chef Tho! We're so happy we found HOTT Catering for our wedding reception in January (belated review). We wanted a more traditional, family-style plated meal, and HOTT was the perfect blend of choosing our own venue and having Chinese banquet food. We had a mix of guests from all different backgrounds at our reception. Everyone was raving about how delicious the food was, even some guests who aren't as adventurous in their usual choice of cuisine. My picky Taiwanese relatives and foodie Hong Kong friends had only great things to say. I had a lot of questions about dietary restrictions, set-up, etc. and Ashleigh delivered on all of it. We had guests that had seafood allergies and others who were gluten-free. Chef Tho made sure that these portions were cooked separately and I got feedback from these guests that these dishes were also delicious - huge step up from the basic pasta dishes that those with dietary restrictions usually get at weddings. Since we were mindful of our budget, we did our research far and wide. HOTT was hands down the best bang for our buck. Prices were reasonable, clearly stated on their site, and included the plates and silverware. No crazy hidden fees or upcharges that others were pushing on us. HOTT Catering was even able to coordinate the cake cutting and placing our wedding favors out as part of the package. Ultimately, everyone has a few wedding regrets, but choosing HOTT Catering will never be one of them for us. Huge thanks to Chef Tho, Ashleigh, and the rest of the HOTT team! read more

As an event planner in San Diego, working with HOTT Catering has been amazing. The HOTT catering team is professional, communicative, quick to help anyone and everyone and pleasant to work with. In addition to HOTT being a terrific full-service wedding catering team, their food is phenomenal and beautifully presented to guests. My favorite dish is the mango salad!!! Don't hesitate to book HOTT for your event if you love Asian food. read more

This review is long overdue (I got married a year ago), but I have to rave about Hott Catering. My husband and I absolutely loved the food and one of the top comments that our guests made even to this day is that our wedding food was the best they ever had. Even people who aren't super familiar with Asian food loved it. The food tastes high quality and being made onsite means it's "hott" and fresh. Some of the standout dishes were the crab claws, lobster tail with garlic noodles, filet mignon cubes, fish maw soup, and baby clam in shrimp crackers hors d'oeuvre. The staff was very friendly, approachable, and professional throughout pre-wedding communication and day-of. The only thing I would say could be improved is that the mango sticky rice we requested as dessert (replacing the jackfruit sticky rice on their menu) had mangoes that weren't quite ripe enough. Hott originally warned us they may not be able to get ripe mangoes at the time of our wedding (May), but ultimately said they could. They do kindly welcome comments and requests for specific adjustments which we really appreciated. We're so happy we went with them knowing we wanted something different than the typical wedding food we see and Hott really delivered. Whenever we think of our wedding, we wish we could have the food again. Overall, we highly recommend! read more

HOTT Catering catered our wedding on 3/29/26, and choosing them was honestly one of the best decisions we made for our wedding. From the planning process to the wedding day, they made everything feel so much easier and less stressful. The food was absolutely amazing. Our favorite dishes were the shaking beef salad and the lobster tails with garlic noodles, but every dish was delicious. The flavors were fresh, rich, and memorable. We had both Filipino and Vietnamese guests, and everyone enjoyed the food so much. Many of our guests told us how good everything was, and that really meant a lot because food is such an important part of our celebration. We also really appreciated that HOTT Catering was willing to work with our budget while still helping us create a menu that felt special and generous for our guests. They were flexible, honest, and thoughtful throughout the process, which made us feel comfortable and cared for. The staff on the wedding day was quick, organized, and efficient. They kept everything moving smoothly and made sure the food was served well. One detail I will always appreciate is that they brought appetizers to the bridal suite and made sure the bride and bridal party were fed. On such a busy day, it was such a thoughtful touch and it meant so much to us. Alexus was amazing with all of the communication before the wedding. She was patient, responsive, and always helped answer our questions. Chef Tho was the head chef and his cooking was truly amazing. You can tell he puts so much care into the food and how it was presented. Everything was delicious, even to our picky eaters! Overall, we are so happy we chose HOTT Catering. They gave us delicious food, great service, and a smooth experience from beginning to end. We would highly recommend them to anyone looking for wedding catering, especially if you want food your guests will actually remember and talk about after the wedding. read more

We had a chance to host a wedding reception last weekend and work with HOTT CATTERING at one of their partner venues, The Bougainvillea Village in El Cajon City, truly a spectacular, cozy and romantic place. We provided the wedding reception with the entertainment program, sound set-up, and decorations. The villa is located in a hill top that offers a beautiful scenery with the mountains view. We were there during the golden hour and the sunset view was incredible! HOTT CATERING makes delicious tasty foods by Chef Tho Ho. They are very professional, on time, and the staff is amazing! We booked Hott Catering for our October wedding, and they truly blew us away. From the moment their team showed up, they were professional, well-coordinated, and incredibly pleasant to work with. And the highlight of the entire experience? The food! It was very important to me to incorporate my Vietnamese cultural in my wedding. Throughout the night, our guests kept pulling us aside to say it was the best meal they'd ever had at a wedding and we felt exactly the same. Every dish was delicious, plated beautifully, and served perfectly hot. You could genuinely taste the passion and attention to detail in every bite. The food tasting was already impressive, but the food on our wedding day somehow topped it. They went above and beyond in every aspect and played a huge part in making our day so memorable. I couldn't recommend them more for anyone wanting standout catering. If you want your guests talking about the food long after the celebration, this is the team to trust. We just had Hott Catering in charge of the food for our wedding reception and can't be happier. If balancing the budget for the event causing you headache (choosing a great venue but must compromise your food selection, or vice versa), I highly recommend consider this catering business and their partner venue. Few remarks on our experience working with them 1. Service: Professional. We have an assigned event coordinator who not only keeps us on track with the deadline and pay attention to details to help us elevate the experience for our guests (napkin holder, candle holder, timing for outdoor event, etc.) 2. Foods: Excellent. I think pictures speak better than thousand words. And one comment from our guests "The quality of food at your reception really shows appreciation to the guests who travel long distance to be here today" 3. Venue: Romantic. If you like spending good time with your loved ones and friends in a cozy atmosphere (live music surrounding by string light) with an epic canyon/mountain view, you should consider their partner venue as well. 4. Budget: Flexible. Their package fee are posted on the website but again they are willing with your budget without compromising the food quality. read more

5-Star Service! Hott Catering is the best wedding caterer in San Diego County - especially if you are looking for a traditional, family-style, multiple-course plated wedding meal. My spouse is the son of Vietnamese immigrants, and it was very important to him that we have a traditional, multiple course Vietnamese dinner at our wedding. We found Hott Catering online before we even found our venue. In fact, one of the main reasons that we chose our venue (Japanese Friendship Garden) was because Hott Catering was an approved vendor. For good reason! Their service is spectacular, and extremely professional. From first contact, Hott Catering treated us like family. I remember being nervous to contact them, as I was not sure how navigating a multi-cultural wedding would go. Alexus, the fantastic Event Coordinator I worked with, assured me that Hott Catering was very used to providing services for couples marrying from different backgrounds. For example, she had great suggestions for menu items that typically appeal to all preferences. We had a fantastic wedding dinner tasting and the Head Chef Tho was extremely receptive to any feedback we had. The menu on the day of was fantastic - I don't even have many photos to share because the food was so good we were all just eating it!! I've attached the few photos I have from the wedding and some photos from the wedding dinner tasting. Also, I want to compliment the staff on accommodating our guests with diet preferences. Specifically, we had one guest with extreme allergies (seafood, nuts, dairy) and she told us that she had never felt better attended by servers than at our wedding. Seriously, book this fantastic team! Whenever we talk to guests about our wedding, the first thing they always bring up how incredible the food was. Our Vietnamese guests loved its traditionality, and our guests from other backgrounds were so impressed by the grandeur and tastiness. This team made our wedding fantastic. read more

I cannot recommend hott catering enough. When you're planning your wedding, you want vendors that are nice, communicative, and easy to work with. Alexus, the event coordinator, was all of these things and more! She always responded in a timely manner and is truly so pleasant. Not only did hott catering/Alexus make the logistics/planning a breeze the food was SO DELICIOUS. I love food so having good food was super important to me. ALL of my friends and family said this was some of the best food they've ever had at a wedding. It's an elevated take on classic Asian banquet food. It'll make your older relatives happy because it's something that they are familiar with but it's done in a modern and exciting way. If you are hesitant about booking them because they don't have many reviews yet, please don't let that stop you. I live in NYC and was unable to do a tasting but my sisters had their food at another wedding and absolutely raved about it so I knew I could trust them & I'm so glad I did. Booked Hott Catering for a 10-year corporate anniversary celebration and they did very well! I was directed to them after my exec attended a wedding catered by them and had great impressions. Before event -Excellent, timely and professional communication by email & text. I appreciated Alexus' guidance so much! -Ability to make menu changes to existing/pre-fixed menus and stayed within budget -Provided reasonable payment timelines and detailed instructions to complete -Provided sound advice and collaboration with booked venue During event -Arrived on time to begin on-site, outdoor cooking -They set-up in anticipation of rain and it went smoothly -Sufficient number of staff for event of 50 guests - Staff was mindful of the timeline while passing a variety of hors d'oeuvres to all guests, whether they were in the designated cocktail area or lingering elsewhere. -Food was tasty with generous portions. By our choice, menu was seafood heavy, but still well rounded -Family style dinner service consisted of multiple courses and there was some inconsistency with how food was prepared. They received this feedback and were apologetic. I appreciated that. Post Event / Hindsights -Hott Catering was required to be the main source of drinking water, but after dinner service, it left with them. This is normal. Be sure to work with the booked bar vendor to ensure water service continues. -Overall satisfied and would book Hott Catering again. read more

We used HOTT Catering for our wedding and we couldn't be happier! We wanted our wedding to blend Vietnamese culture with a modern twist and HOTT was the perfect caterer to help us realize our vision. For those that grew up attending Vietnamese weddings, HOTT's menu will taste familiar yet elevated. In the traditional multi-course Vietnamese wedding meal, there are always those one or two "throwaway" courses that probably only our grandparents/parents enjoyed. With HOTT, you can be assured that either those courses are not on the menu or modified to appeal to a younger generation. We also had nothing but great feedback from our guests about the food! Many of our guests had expected typical wedding food but were surprised with HOTT's food quality. We received multiple honest feedback from different friends and family that this was the best wedding food they've had! We also had a healthy mix of vegans scattered in our guest list and HOTT was able to accommodate them as well. A friend referred us to HOTT catering for our Anniversary celebration. We initially leaned towards buffet style meal and Chef Toan advised us to go with the banquet option. There's also the benefit of each course served individually instead of piled together buffet style. The appetizers were a big hit and the follow up Seven course banquet meal was delicious with each course served hot and timely. Table service was excellent, courteous and throughly professional. I've known Chef Tho since he had his Quê Huong restaurant, over 10 years ago. My wedding guests was blown away with a beach wedding but traditional family style 7 course meal. I have been in the wedding industry as a makeup artist for over 20 years (VanitySD.com) and I have never seen it before but tho team was cooking the food on the spot with the mobile kitchen they set up on the side of the venue building. The guests was so impressed at how hot and delicious the food was. A lot of my guest post about our wedding on social media, how fun they had and how amazing the food was. A lot of weddings I go to, I can't eat the fry and cold steak or chicken served! I leave hungry, often resort to tacos or ramen! My guests left wanting more! A lot of the table looked like they have been starved for day! All the fish come out and Gone in sixty seconds! Talk about hungry and furious. Your number 1 priority is Making sure your guests love the food, you can count on Hott catering! U can have the traditional style Asian food at any destination! I can't wait for my 10 years anniversary to have Hott catering back! read more

Hott Catering - Thank you, Chef Tho! Such an honor to have you and your special skill on our special day. (Photographer: Jasonqtran.com) - Caterers Near Me - San Marcos, California

Top quality food that not only look good but taste superb as well! It was for a our wedding and Hott Catering completely wowed the guests and the hosts with their timeliness, price point, aesthetics and most importantly, tastiness. Plus vegan friendly! We had a 2 tables that were vegan. Hott Catering graciously prepared a few of the entrees completely vegan, even introduced himself to the guest to ensure that it was good and clean, our vegan guest were amazed on how tasty it was. We had 250 people at our wedding and everybody had nothing but good things to say. Thanking us for treating them to an amazing meal and ask us who our caterer was. Many even went straight to the chef himself to get their number. They had a team of cooks and waitstaff, who were all very professional and friendly. Highly recommend and will highly likely book them for my next big event! read more

OMG BEST CATERING COMPANY EVER. Our wedding was at the Lane on 7.8.22. Toan and Tho and team we're communicative, kind, patient, EFFICIENT, caring, and best of all - professional. We have had multiple people tell us that this was the best wedding food that they have ever had. People are STILL talking about the food! They're so sweet, they sent a plate of hors d'oeuvres to my bridal suite so that we could try everything before it disappeared... which it did!! We got the package 3 for the hors d'oeuvres and the cocktail shooters were the crowd favorite. I mean EVERYTHING was good!!! The only thing I wished was that we could have a box at the end of the night for our food. I was so wrapped up in the party that I wished I got to have their meal again. I'm gonna tell all of my friend to HOTT catering and if I ever have another party, I 100000000% would hire them again. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH!!! read more

Justin and his team was our Vietnamese food caterer for 180 guest at our wedding. He is an amazingly nice and easy going person who was quick to pick up our calls, answer our text, and most importantly flexible with our choices/substitutions of different dishes on the packages and our budget. The food tasted great on our tasting, but you definitely cannot please 180+ guests' tastebuds at the wedding. We had mixed reviews from the young and the older attendees regarding the food and the service. The younger crowd really enjoyed the food. We believe it's because the take on the Vietnamese cuisine is a bit more modern than what the older generation expected. We had a sweetheart table and the portion size of the dishes were great for the two of us. We had several people mention that the portion size for a table of 10 was small. We believe this can be worked out if you talk with Justin ahead of time with what you experience at your tasting and what can be expected at the wedding. Again, Justin is extremely accommodating and patient, so don't hesitate inquire or make any requests. Overall, we had a wonderful experience with the process of booking, the professionalism of working with Justin and his team, and the hard work that their team does behind the scenes to provide a seamless experience for us. read more

Chef Tho and his team did an amazing job catering our wedding at the Japanese Friendship Garden. They do amazing 8 or 10 course meals just like Jasmine or other Chinese restaurants for weddings, but the food is more Vietnamese inspired. Our menu consisted of: 1. Rare Filet Mignon with Lime Juice Salad 2. Fish Maw Egg Drop Soup with Crab Meat 3. Grilled Scallop hors d'ourves 4. Crab Claw with Minced Shrimp Fried Rolls 5. Chargrilled Lamb Rack (more like lollipop because each person gets one bone, but amazing Vietnamese marinade) 6. Dragon Fried Rice (crab) 7. Stir-fried abalone with shiitake mushroom 8. Lobster Tail with Garlic Noodles 9. Steamed Swai fish with house sauce 10. Durian Puree Fruit Dessert They have set packages already but we asked to change some dishes to more closely align with a traditional Chinese banquet. The Hott Catering team was super helpful and accommodating. The only thing we didn't get to taste during our tasting was the dessert, but we were so happy with it! We had 180 people and they did a great job making sure everyone go enough to eat. My family and friends are all very critical of food, but we got amazing feedback all night about the menu! Do keep in mind that they require cash on hand payments (Zelle only) which is understandable for the price and value that you're getting! I would definitely recommend them for anyone trying to get a different multi-course experience than just Jasmine in San Diego. read more

We had HOTT Catering for our wedding and all of our guests LOVED the food. We have had only positive feedback about the food and the great service. Everyone left happy and full and with leftovers to enjoy the next day. Alexus was our point of contact and she was amazing. She was responsive and made sure we were happy with our menu choices. Anh Tho (chef) modified the menu to better fit the tastes of our guest as well. Overall, we had a wonderful experience with HOTT Catering and would recommend them for anyone who would like a more traditional Asian styled cuisine for their event. read more

As planner/coordinators we highly recommend Hott Catering! We recently worked with them for a wedding at the Coronado Community Center and it was a wonderful experience. Communication in the lead up to the wedding was excellent. Ashleigh and Alexus were so on top of it - they always got back to us quickly with the information and answers we needed throughout the planning stages. They were flexible and accommodating to our clients' needs. On the wedding day, they were prompt, professional, and friendly! Service was great, and guests loved the food! We look forward to working with them again. read more
