To sum up; the service staff consisted mainly of young and very unexperienced and in fact just not suitable for the job. While asking for the wine card, we needed to ask at least 3 times while it was basically laying behind us on another table. The starters... Bland, tasteless, lukewarm. The main course, similar, no taste, no structure, not warm... The ordered wine never came.. When making complaints in private to the head waiter there was just a general comment of sorry, will bring to attention of the chef. Not a single attempt from the restaurant to apologies or do some sort of compensation, coffee or other (even though sitting there another half hour waiting for our taxi) A real pitty, if nothing seriously changes there please avoid having dinner there.

The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of 5 is because some of the rooms do not have AC and that was not stated anywhere so I ended up in a super hot room and had a hard time sleeping. However, the rooms were nice. Also, bring bug spray as there are mosquito's on the patio during certain times of year. All in all I would stay again I would just make sure I have a room with AC. There are tons of great running and biking paths all over.

PROS: The staff is friendly and the hotel is close to almost everything you need. Groceries, Restaurants, Telephone company, Bank etc... They include breakfast and its pretty good. The bathrooms are very spacious. They have a few american TV shows playing. A small fridge and Microwave in the small rooms and a tiny kitchen in the Apartment style rooms. The Wifi seemed pretty reliable and I only had a problem one time. Pet friendly, they have a nice pond/waling park you an take your dog to walk (Under construction now, so it is not a very pretty site on one side) CONS: The beds are twin mattress put together and they are not very comfortable. They don't have a sofa or recliner so you be sitting on a bed or a chair. The cleaning staff does an OK job. If I would have bought my family I would not have been comfortable at all. There is very little room for privacy, the walls are super thin so you hear everything. I hope this was helpful.

Everything is extremely well maintained, and there is a nice bike path that is connected to the property which is awesome if you are a runner like me. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Our dinner was amazing, and they had a nice modest selection of beers. We were a large group (14) and the staff handled us awesomely, everything was timed well and the food was fantastic. We ordered off a fixed menu and I loved every item. I would look for any and every opportunity to stay here again.

Only spent one night here while passing though Heerlen, so I honestly can't complain too much. As you enter the lobby, you're immediately drawn to the gorgeous copper fireplace. That was, hands-down, my favorite feature in the entire place. The hotel staff is friendly and polite -- if you need to rent any electrical adapters or send letters (within Europe only), they're more than willing to accommodate you. The lobby is also the best place for the free wifi connection -- its strength is tenuous, at best, in the bedrooms. Connected to the lobby are the bar and dining room. Both spaces are nicely decorated and more than adequate to fulfill their duties. The bar has a great selection of beers to choose from, as well. Breakfast is served in the dining room at 7am and you can always rely on a hearty breakfast menu of breads, eggs, meats, fruits, and cereals. Juice, coffee, milk, and tea are also provided. The bedroom was nicely sized to fit two single beds, a side table, a writing desk, and a chair. There was also ample space for four various pieces of luggage. The bathroom was nice. Again, a little dated, but functional and fairly spacious. The surrounding area of the hotel is also nice. Located in a residential area, you do get some traffic noise, but it's not extremely distracting. It's also a brief five-minute walk from the city center where restaurants and shops are located.

We were celebrating our wedding anniversary so we wanted to go somewhere different, somewhere special. A colleague recommended the Mercator so we had a quick look on line and decided to go for it. A good choice overall but a little short of expectations. The restaurant is part of the spa hotel facility. It is nicely decorated with a feeling of elegance but no pretension. We were seated at a cozy table for two and even with the looming massive table set for about 20. The atmosphere and the attentive service never diminished. The waitress recommended a wonderful riesling, fruity and dry and crisp. An excellent choice. After placing our order out came the little 'munchy' hot bread slices to quell the appetite until the main course arrived. The wiener schnitzel was preceded with an excellent feld-salat. The vegetables were wonderfully crisp and the light yoghurt dressing brought the flavours to life. The main dish was somewhat basic in it's presentation. There were two medium sized schitzels, with a light breading. They were cooked to perfection, melting in the mouth. The krokettens were 'okay'. Nicely cooked however they lacked a bit of flavour. The other main was a large salad with chicken pieces on top. The chicken was 'dressed' with a light chili dressing which gave it a real nice zing; however, the meat itself was a bit dry as it had been slightly over-cooked. Great flavours but the dry chicken detracted. A wonderful evening. Friendly and extremely efficient service, always attentive and always checking on how we were doing. Great potential that was not realized on this visit, but worth a second try.
