I was drawn to Guesthouse At Home because of all of the pictures that showed a modern and comfortable looking place where my wife and I could get adjusted after our long journey here. But what wasn't reflected in the pictures and in all the data on the website was what a wonderful host Bart was for us. Not only did Bart ensure that we had a ride from the airport to our guest house (during a pandemic). He also had the fridge stocked with food and a bit of alcohol for when we arrived! Bart did everything from grabbing us takeout meals and groceries to helping us with our first parking ticket . He bridged the language barrier with the locals for us on countless occasions. He even helped me purchase a car from a local! I can not overstate how helpful Bart was to help us make the jump into the European lifestyle. If I could give 6 stars I would. Truly exceeded all of our expectations. The modern layout makes it all feel so warm and welcoming, but beyond the sleek decor and accommodations, the hosting is at another level. Bart made the transition for my family so smooth and we couldn't be anymore grateful. He arranged the shuttle service after our very long flight, provided us with a delicious bunch of starter groceries, and was wonderful about answering any questions we had along the way. Our experience at the "Guesthouse at Home Selfkant" was truly amazing! I stayed there for 34 days with my family of four, which included my kids of 13 and 9. We were in the process of moving to the Netherlands. We traveled from New York and my whole family was going on about 20 minutes of sleep. We were met by Bart who was extremely welcoming and who made us feel right at home. He explained everything to us and helped us drag all our belongings into the space, which was a lot of stuff because we overpacked for the unknown. Bart and Sarah were both extremely friendly and helpful during our stay. They even bought us some fresh produce and food, so that we didn't need to go out for the first day. Bart was also there to answer any questions we had during our stay. They live on the property, so anything you need they are there to help. He got us setup right away in the guesthouse car, so that we could begin our house search in the coming days. Again, I can't say enough about the level of service provided by Bart and Sarah. We also got know their dog Ziggy, which we will also miss her greetings from their porch upon our departure and arrival every day. Not only were Bart, Sarah and Ziggy great, but so was the space. Everything was brand new and extremely well thought out. You could really tell that they put in a lot of research into how they equipped the space. Everything you could think of was in the space and it exceeded our expectations by a mile. We were able to do a lot of cooking and save money on eating out. My son was extremely satisfied with the play station, which helped to ease the mandatory 14 day quarantine we had to do. The couch in the living room pulled out to a good size bed that my kids were able to share. There is a separate room for the adults, which has a great covered outdoor area off of it. We spent a lot of hours just hanging out in the covered area. All of the windows have electric blackout shades, which was great for when it doesn't get dark until 11pm. The location is nice and quiet and behind the house there were trails that go for miles. It was so nice to go for long walks after dinner with the kids and just enjoy the peacefulness. There are two grocery stores that are within walking distance and a few little food places. The guest car is priceless and saved us a lot of money in not having to get a rental while our car was being shipped over. We spent a lot of hours in the car driving around the Netherlands getting to know all the villages and looking for a house. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a place to stay while transitioning over to the area or even just looking for a quiet get away. As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words, it wasn't hard to choose to stay at the guest house at Selfkant. From booking to the completion of the stay it was a seamless and an exceptional experience. Travel is stressful. Now with Covid-19 more than ever. Needless to say, the convenience of a personal chauffeur pick up service from the airport to the guest house was a great start! Once we arrived at the guest house, Mr. Hendrix welcomed us and gave us a tour of the chic guest house equipped with various amenities like heated floors, electric black out blinds, play station, TV(Netflix), fully functioning kitchen, and a car to drive for the entire duration of the stay! I was feeling tired from the long journey so it was a pleasant surprise to find out that the refrigerator was already stocked with groceries. Mr. Hendrix even offered to pick up & deliver food from restaurants and grocery shop for us during our quarantine. He went above and beyond to make the stay comfortable to feel just like at home. He was always readily available for questions, and very helpful consistently through out the entire stay. Thank you for exceeding our expectations each time. My month and a half stay at Guesthouse at Home was better than I even imagined. Not only was the apartment itself pristine, Bart's welcoming hospitality made the place feel like home. With the countless miles of walking trails behind the property and every possible amenity you can imagine, it was hard to move out as I wanted to stay forever!
