The flavor, the freshness of the ingredients, the preparation was simply perfect. Highly recommend a trip up to the abbey if you happen to be in the Gubbio area. Well the one complaint, and it is not hotel relatet td, but the nearby church bell must be one o the few in Italy that goes on ALL night. The place is comfortable, clean, spacious and quiet.The kitchen is so well equipped that it feels like home. It overlooks a beautiful valley with farm land, forest and rolling hills. On top of the lovely spot, the owner is so friendly and hospitable that it is so rare nowadays. While we were there for the long weekend, we were given farm fresh eggs, home made red wine and shop bought pastries.

It's a bit of a walk into town and taxis are very limited, but do-able. The hotel itself is gorgeous: it was a former monastery so it looks old world on the outside, but very modern inside. The room was large and comfortable with many amenities. The restaurant was excellent - great food, great service. The only small suggestion I'd make is that the front desk staff could be a bit more helpful with questions. We couldn't figure out how to get any lights to work and instead of coming up to show us, I called the front desk and didn't get much info, so I had to go down and talk it out/try to figure it out. In other hotels we stayed at in Italy someone pro-actively explained things about the room which would be helpful here. Irons weren't available so make sure you don't have anything that needs pressing. Other than those tiny items, it's a great hotel and I'd recommend it if you're in Gubbio.
