Camping Villaggio Valdeiva - One fabulous pizza!

Camping Villaggio Valdeiva

(1 review)

This is a regular family run Italian camping, in the moderately touristic area of cinque terre. The…read moreowners are very kind and hospitable people. The pitches are terraced, and have a rocky soil. No grass lawns. To me, good campings ought to have grass meadows so you can lay down next to your tent.. The sanitation must be divided in two; There's a new(er) main building with wonderful showers and toilets. And there's the rest: An older, smaller building, and at the pitches, there's a couple of crap portacabins with showers and toilets. The older main building has to be renovated and the portacabins need to be replaced by something new. Most of the stalls have "hole-in-the-ground" toilets. There are a couple of bowls you can sit on, but they are scarce. Everything is supposed to be cleaned twice a day, but I've seen tidier places. In fact most of the campsite needs a bit of a refurbishing. Nothing is actually broken, but the pictures on their website are not a representation of reality. Indeed, there is a small pool, which is actually fine. But it does not have the flower bins on the railings and the walls need a paint job. The flowerbeds, trees, plants etc are not kept and grass grows wildly. I think that the regulars are used to this camping and perhaps all of the campings in this area are a bit like this. Which is a shame, because the potential is there. The location is great. It's only one bus-stop away from Deiva Marina. And the free (!) shuttle goes every 15 minutes or so.. from 8:30 to 19:30. And in general, all the important facilities are available. Cabins, small (2p) and large (up to 6) are there. With indoor bath/toilet. The gem of this camping is the restaurant. It's run by an enthusiastic couple, who are very friendly. The food, well it IS Italy, is great and cheap. the pizzas are made by hand, on the spot, in a wood fired oven. Fabulous. So mr. Owner.. if you read this.. get a gardener. And invest a couple of bucks in your potentially lovely campsite every year. It's worth it.

We had an amazing stay at Locanda Il Maestrale!…read more Giovanni (owner) takes pride in his hotel and caters and interacts with all guests in a friendly and welcoming way. Upon arrival, you'll be welcomed and they will explain their water machine, juicer, afternoon snacks, breakfast set up (8am - 10am) and answer any questions you may have. Breakfast is amazing! All high quality selections, delicious coffee, yogurt, meats, cheeses, breads, focaccia, soft boiled eggs, etc., etc. the croissants are made locally and are amazing. Rooms are comfortable and well appointed with air conditioning that works well. Bathrooms are well appointed and clean. Beds and pillows are comfortable and rooms are kept spotless. Staff are happy to make local recommendations and can sell you hiking trail / train passes as needed. All their recommendations to us were excellent and appreciated. Great location right in the Main Street in Monterosso. Stairs required to enter hotel, so be advised if mobility is an issue but they do have a stair lift but you'd need to ask to use it. Our room (suite) had an elevated bed area that required stairs to access the main living area and bathroom so again, be advised if you have mobility issues. Hotel provides beach bag and beach towels for your use. Parking nearby (at a cost) and steps away from the marina and ferries. Short walk to the new part of Monterosso for the train. Convenient home base when visiting Cinque Terre. Staff went above and beyond to help us dry out when we got caught in the rain. Hiking and visiting different towns in the Cinque Terre are is amazing, but requires a level of fitness to truly enjoy. Look no further... great stay. Hotel is very clean and the owner grew up here and knows everyone in town. Final Note: hotel sits upon entrance to older part of town and small delivery trucks make some noise entering town for morning deliveries but this didn't present an issue for us, but calling out for full transparency and note if you are a light sleeper.

Beautifully decorated patio with view of street. Nice size room, bright, wonderful breakfast. Collection of books to borrow, including travel guides for the Cinque Terre region.
