If you plan to do excursions, free daily room service will arrive 6:40 am earliest (this was the case for us). But concierge said if you place the order the night prior it'll arrive earlier which I don't think changes because they only start making it at 6 am.
The sand on the beach is rough on your feet, it is filled with painful, sand like shells & gravel. I would definitely recommend bringing water shoes to wear on the beach in the water.
Make sure to reserve your beach chairs early in the morning with the hotel towels or your own. I would recommend 7-8 am is the perfect time to make sure you claim a seat. By 9 or 10 am there will be no chairs left. The ones in front of the cabana are for the cabana rentals.
First night we came, I got spoken to for like 2 hrs arriving to the hotel. I just wanted to go to the hotel room, change, freshen up and go to have dinner. Instead I felt like I was being held hostage, the guy, Dorian that took us from reception/ bellboy talked us into the lengthy timeshare presentation with the Premium/ VIP Park Royal membership. I was extremely annoyed and getting more impatient by the minute.
I would NOT recommend you do the timeshare presentation because they do not offer any free excursions. Their incentives were extremely cheap & of little cost/ investment to them compared to our limited time there on vacation. We were told it would be 90 minutes but it went over by 30 mins, making it 2 hrs. We didn't get the cabana they rewarded us with until 4 pm, when the sun is already starting to die down. We were offered the cabana for a day, the beach bag, the shirts in the bag & the a beer sized tequila bottle which we didn't care for so we gave it back to them & supposedly a discount on our 2 excursions (Chichen Itza and Isla Mujeres) both excursions were operated and done by Xcaret. There were no issues with the Xcaret excursions thankfully.
Pros: free 1x/ daily room service (don't forget to tip them), different entertainment every night by the pool (bingo, Mexico street vendors including hand painter Epifanio Alemán, and more), 4 dining locations, 2 separate pools with plenty of beach chairs & lounge cushion seats, reliable excursion booking past concierge, a ice cream & quick snack to go area by hotel entrance, the Japanese restaurant took more than an hour just to serve a soda and even longer for the horrible food, jacuzzi.
Cons: rough sand on beach no matter when you go, extremely bad Japanese and Italian food at those 2 restaurants so we pretty much just had the main dining hall which is good enough but still disappointing, the color of the raw sushi was very off from fresh sushi so I declined, timeshare presentation with cheap incentives & ran over advertised time investment & didn't compensate us for going over budget 30 minutes (aggressive & annoying VIP timeshare sellers too), plenty of fresh seafood only on the first night we arrived then the food quality options started to decline, always had to move nightstand to plug in my charging cables, room service takes too long to come on mornings we had excursions, the pavement is tacky and extremely painful to walk on when you checkout with a whole bunch of luggage with you, flies came into our room our first night, and no privacy door for the bathroom!! The shower is directly in front of the hotel room entrance!!!
I got to negotiate our 2 day of excursion price down to $185.06 per person for 2 people for Chichen Itza(tour guide & ticket included), Valladolid (buffet restaurant there included, better food options than hotel) and cenote (entrance, life vest, and locker included) for day 1. Isla Mujeres including bus to the port and bus back for day 2 (included a lunch & open bar on the boat). The price is negotiated after the timeshare presentation discount. Not sure if you can negotiate it to this price without timeshare presentation but def try!
