I am a frequent visitor to Geneva and I Stay at the Royal often. Overall, the hotel is average, and I'm going to explain why.
The staff gets five (5) stars! The desk staff, concierges, and breakfast room staff are helpful, friendly, and attentive. They make one feel at home here.
The location gets five (5) stars. Convenient and close to public transport and the train station. The city is all within walking distance.
Now, the hotel building, quality of rooms and interior itself gets two (2) stars. I have been staying at this hotel in/and-off for over five years and my colleagues do also. The rooms have not been updated or remodeled in at least six years. This time was the last straw for me--carpets are worn, walls are dirty, doors in the bathroom are rotting, bathroom has mold stains, and the curtains had a consistent, musty smell. This is not what you want for the price you pay.
Breakfast bar should be re-vamped: they have been serving the same items for six years. Really, there is no diversity.
For my next trip, I will be staying at the Mon Repos, just down the street. The management here at the Royal is milking this cash cow and I have had enough. The staff have been making my experience bearable, but enough is enough.
The hotel is long overdue for upgrades, but the management will not do it. Therefore, I won't be staying here when I'm back in town. read more
