Well the color scheme gave me vibes of the movie the Shining and the room had an odor of cigarettes. Thankfully we had a wonderful balcony view of the harbor and could leave the door open to air it out some. It's dated and needs to be overhauled. The bathroom has no shower just a tub with a handheld shower attachment. It was fine for a short stay but I wouldn't do it again.

If only they could invest that same amount of time and money into the actual rooms. Located by a several block long mental institution, this hotel is a far walk from the city center and anything else of note in Aix. The walk into town is bleak and depressing, as the hotel is definitely located on the wrong side of town, and it is not safe to walk near the hotel after dark. The hotel room was incredibly small and looked like it belonged on a psych ward. For paying over $300 a night can I at least get a painting or decoration instead of bare white walls? And if you are over 5'4" using the shower will be deeply problematic. I could not fit inside it or raise my arms. Let's not forget my amazing view of the parking lot, complete with cars honking. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!! There are so many options in Aix, don't make the same mistake I did.

There is so much to say about this amazing hotel. From the moment I arrived at the hotel it felt…read moremore like a bed and breakfast then a hotel because of the personal service. Each person that greeted us was friendly and helpful to us which was so appreciated after our very long travel day from the US. When we drove in the beautiful grounds were so nice to see and the parking available for our car was abundant and easy. Walking through the hotel every part we saw was beautiful and even small details were not ignored. Car: While we stayed there we rented a car so we could travel around Provence. What was excellent about this location is that it is just outside the city and very close to the freeway - best of both worlds. The freeway is about 5 minutes from the hotel which makes traveling around incredibly easy. Room:The room was HUGE! We had two twin beds, two arm chairs, two end tables, a desk, a bathroom, a closet, and a balcony with a lot of room to walk around. It is nicely decorated and feels very clean. The decorations are nice too. It felt very warm. Shuttle: The shuttle into the city and back to the hotel is incredibly easy to use and drops you off in a great location close to everything. Again, the driver was so kind and felt like he'd known us forever. Amenities in room: I was so impressed with all of the little extras in the room including the softest towels I've ever felt in any hotel (or even owned myself); the high end toiletries; free water each day; slippers; a large fridge that is cold to use; a lot of storage around the room; and a great balcony with a beautiful view. Grounds: The grounds are spectacular and kept up beautifully. We were not in the hotel enough to enjoy the grounds as much as I would have liked but what we did see it is truly magical there. The pool is fantastic too. Staff: What can I say about the staff beyond that everyone we encountered was kind and helpful. I speak some French but not a ton but probably 98% of the staff speak a good amount of English which was very appreciated. My mom and I know we are high maintenance when we travel but not once did we feel that we were putting anyone out and they were all helpful and kind with each request. Final thoughts: I'm so happy I found this hotel. I wished we could have stayed in this hotel the entire time we were there, but we stayed in other areas of France. I will recommend this to any friends that travel to Provence and will recommend this to anyone reading.

There's a hot bar and a great cut-your-own-cheese charcuterie set up, as well as pastries. I was fine with a nut allergy by avoiding the pastries. The eggs are deliciously fluffy and I ate them with the cheeses and smoked salmon every day that it was available. - The WiFi is quite good. - The location is great, being near the city center and very walkable. - The rooms are well soundproofed. - Direct USB connections to the walls means that you can survive without a travel adapter (though I still recommend a universal adapter) - The showers got suitably hot! - Staff were overall pretty friendly. Cons: - The rooms are quite small. - Some amenities are missing that are normal at American hotels. Notably, there was no ironing board, conditioner, mini-fridge, or lotion. - I was charged a corkage fee of 5 EUR to open my own wine at the hotel lobby.. I guess I should just go to my room? Overall, great location and a quaint small room that's great for sleeping but not much else. The staff are great and very helpful. Awesome breakfast.

When I pointed this out and asked for the room I booked they said "you have two beds what else do you want - we're booked." The room they gave me was terrible and so I decided not to even checkin. But then I needed a new hotel immediately. I checked Trip Advisor and saw this hotel had room. I called explained my situation and they had a room for us!! Then I had another bad experience with getting there and again the hotel stepped up with their customer service in helping me get my suitcases to their hotel 2 blocks down through a construction site (the driver dropped me off 2 blocks away). Not only did they get us in but the room was perfect and the location even better. We couldn't believe our good luck! One of the many pluses of the hotel is that they provide shampoo, conditioner, and soup all in the shower in dispensers in the shower. This is so much nicer than a little bottles that are given out and other hotels. Breakfast was included in the amount that we paid for the hotel. And it was a great spread of delicious items for breakfast. The view from breakfast was great too. The location. Location, location, location. This hotel is not only a block from the Port but it is also close to shopping, restaurants, a metro right next to the hotel and buses. The location is excellent! Everyone I dealt with at this hotel was nice, accommodating, and went out of their way to make our stay fantastic. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

This was our first time in Marseilles and absolutely loved the city's diversity, energy and vitality. As others have mentioned, Sofitel is situated on a hill with superb views of the Old Port. The view from our standard room (no balcony) was wonderful too, and I was thrilled to see beautiful fireworks over the harbor on Saturday night. (Not sure if the fireworks happen every week, maybe I just got lucky:) We ate dinner at Carré Bistromanie the first night, located on Sofitel's third floor. We booked ahead online to get a window table; the place is small and popular so reservations are recommended in any case. We both chose the daily special - roasted chicken with fresh mushrooms and fingerling potatoes - and it was the best chicken I've ever had, hands down. I've heard that making a moist tasty chicken is a good test of any chef's skills, and if this dinner was any indication the chef at Carré Bistromanie deserves an award! Lovely polite service and chill atmosphere as well. Our buffet breakfasts (included with our room rate) on the 7th floor terrace were ample, including fresh squeezed juices, eggs made to ordr and many varieties of yummy pastries. Our room was modern with a spacious bathroom and huge shower. The only downside (and it's minor) is that there were no drawers for storage. That may be an issue for a long stay, but not for us. The pool is shared with the neighboring property Novotel. I would definitely return to this Sofitel.
