I'm not sure about the other Haciendas but this one could use a LOT of TLC. There are so many open spaces they could make way more interesting with landscaping, seating areas, and at minimum some lightening. There are a ton of very old areas... unused, and that's really the only thing to do to walk around and wonder what is all this old stuff for? But no context is offered, no history, unless you do the tour. It's frankly quite bizarre. If you want to completely disappear and feel a little rustic, and know you basically have your room, the restaurant facing the pool, and seating area facing big empty entrance to hang at - than ok, but I wouldn't necessarily call it tranquil and definitely not luxurious. The pool was dirty on one side, I never Saw one person in it, the hot tub was not hot, and we tried to walk to the secret cenote but there wasn't signage and ended up in a loop back to hotel. The spa service was top notch, absolutely 5*, thank you Fatima! It was in a room not in the cenote that gets advertised, as we were told right now there can be lots of bugs and even rats! The bedroom suite was huge with a hammock and an outside bath they filled for us that was lovely, the living room was pretty barren, they can use some art. The bed is comfortable I slept great. If you have kids please for the love of God don't come here. I cannot imagine how you would survive. We saw so many kids and cannot imagine what they possibly do with them at this property. If you are a writer and just need to go hide and write for a few days in the jungle then this could work. Otherwise I would not recommend. I'm Pretty open and flexible and have stayed many places... I just can't in good conscience tell people to go to this particular Hacienda unless it's for a specific reason.

While rooms are minimalist and on the small side, they are also quite comfortable with AC, wifi, free parking, pool, a nice breakfast, a security guard, cable TV, and provide handicapped accessible rooms. The facilities are kept spotlessly clean. The staff is warm and efficient. The beds are comfortable. The bathrooms are supplied with plenty of towels, and a generic soap and shampoo. Pillows and bed linens are comfy. Breakfast included: chilaquiles, eggs with hotdog slices, beans, salsa, cereal, fruit, juice, milk and coffee. The fresh brew coffee machine is available 24/7. There is a convenience store on the other side of the loop expressway, the equivalent of a couple of short blocks. The view from the hotel (in the back) overlooks the pool area which includes a couple of hammocks. Sun shines into the pool area in the morning only; the rest of the day the building shields it from direct sun. Over the wall there is a residential area. At the moment there is some temporary road construction directly behind the hotel. The windows do not open, but the air exhaust vent in the bathroom combined with the AC keeps the air fresh. It's not a luxury hotel but is great for the business traveler or a family looking for a clean, pleasant experience that's easy on the wallet. They are building a Starbucks and a Little Ceasar's Pizza next door.

This hotel is located within the Uptown Plaza which has a Walmart, many shops, restaurants (TGIF, Vips, La Casa de los Abuelos, Starbucks), plenty of secure parking, and very near a huge mall. Very walkable. The check-in was easy. Service was friendly and excellent. My room was spacious, clean, comfortable, had plenty of electrical outlets, black-out curtains, great views of the city, and equipped with drawers, a closet, ironing board with iron, coffee kit, pleasant lighting, TV with cable, mini fridge, and room safe. The bathroom was nice with a rain shower, sink, close-up mirror (scary!), and standard soaps, shampoo, towels, etc. I did have two issues with the bathroom: 1. The exhaust vent did not work (not a huge deal, but steam from the shower would cloud the mirror. More importantly, 2. The toilet is made to minimize water use, so if you deposit more than liquid, it would not flush. I had to fill the trash can with water from the sink to get it to flush. That was an annoyance. The hotel amenities include a small pool (nice to cool off, but no real swimming), a gym (which I did not see), a bar, and an excellent hot breakfast buffet. There is great security. When you enter from the mall and get to the elevator, you can only press L to access the lobby unless you are checked in and use your card-key. If you have your room key, scan it, and the elevator will recognize it and automatically select the floor of your room. You can only access the lobby or your room floor. So people can not just walk in and access floors where guests are without a key. Prices are moderate, lower than what you would pay for an equivalent hotel in the USA. If you need to get around, there are Ubers and taxis. I would definitely stay there again.

Staff were friendly & helpful. Breakfast at the restaurant isn't fancy but is substantial. The location is a bit far from anything else in Merida. The entrance is inside the mall. Dedicated parking is a bit limited but is very close to the entrance. There's additional shared parking. Other than a walmart, the mall shopping options are limited but there are several local restaurants and an outside-entrance Starbucks that keeps late hours. Quibbles: the room only had one hand towel, no washcloths. The fitness center is pretty minimal, with no mats for floor work. Internet felt a bit slow / disconnected sporadically (not great if you're working, but pretty common in hotels). Despite those few quibbles, this is a well-priced, solid offering and I'd stay here again.

Visiting at the end of March, meant the weather was extremely hot (close to 100 degrees Fahrenheit each day) and very humid. Keep in mind the weather and amount of mosquitos (there were a TON) when planning your trip! The service and speed at which food came out at the restaurant was quite slow, but we visited during the off season, so they seemed to have been short staffed. During the week you can order from a full breakfast menu, but during the weekend they just have a buffet. Even though the service was very slow, the wait staff were still extremely nice, helpful, and willing to provide recommendations for places to visit in the area. There are three total pools on the property, including one large heated, olympic sized pool, and two smaller unheated pools. There is a good sized gym with modern equipment, as well as a tranquil spa on site where you can get everything from facials, to massages, to body scrubs. They offer daily activities such as yoga, meditation (both at an additional charge), and even a chance to feed the local and quite adorable animals living on the property called coatis. Our room was stunning, with extremely high ceilings, an expansive bathroom with separate shower, an extra large balcony, and even an outdoor bathtub! We loved it! The wedding that took place on the property, was absolutely beautiful and had everything from a exquisite dinner table set up with twinkling lights and lanterns, to fireworks, to even a massive dance floor and raised DJ booth. At night, there is always someone waiting at the gate to let you in no matter what the tine. We stayed in the Mejorada room with is gorgeous with high ceilings and a jetted tub. Although Casa Azul has its traditional charm, it's definitely upgraded and renovated enough to provide modern conveniences. The air condition was very good, plenty of outlets to charge things, etc. Breakfast service is the standout and often was one of the best meals of our trip. Their chilaquiles is especially incredible but you can't go wrong with any choice. Raul provided exceptional service and also accommodated a speedier service one day when we had a tour to catch earlier in the morning. Luna in the office was always super helpful to answer our questions and give us tips. Location-wise, it's steps away from el Paseo Mantejo and we felt very comfortable walking at night to and from our hotel from the center. Casa Azul cannot be missed!
