Brand New Owners. They showed up to take over the day before we checked in. They seem to really want to have a friendly place where they can interact with their guests. I spent a week working in Matador and had the opportunity to stay at the Hotel Matador. Before arriving I was unsure of what the accommodations would be like in a 100 year old hotel located in a town of less than 600 people. I was blown away by how lovely my stay was! The hotel was a fantastic experience due to how quaint and clean the establishment was. I found my room to be extremely comfortable and the hosts, Barbara and Christian, to be delightful. Every morning I was treated to a wonderful breakfast spread including delicious omelets, bacon, sausages, breakfast potatoes, and fresh baked biscuits. Additionally, Christian, who is a trained pastry chef, would provide fresh pastry each morning. Being the only guest at the time, the hosts were kind enough to join me for dinner each night. Among the memorable dinner courses was a fantastic fried chicken breast with a mushroom cream gravy and a side of berry preserves. The next evening we enjoyed a very tasty plate of chicken wings, fresh baked focaccia bread, and a Greek salad. After dinner we had what was probably the most delectable cake I have ever had the privilege of tasting. I am looking forward to my next chance to visit! read more

I'll start by saying I'm very pleased with myself for finding this fantastic spot. So many rural county seats in Texas are losing their character and bless anyone who strives to make them a destination. Matador is a lovely town in an area which lacks the ugliness of the oilfield that's so pervasive elsewhere in this part of the world. And the hotel! Just nice as can be. It has very comfortably appointed common areas and a well maintained exterior. The hosts personify West Texas friendliness. Our room was clean and well stocked. The breakfast was fresh and plentiful. The attention to detail is noticeable everywhere at Hotel Matador. I'm already trying to figure out a reason to go back, possibly a mountain bike trip to Caprock Canyons State Park. If you have reason to be overnighting within 100 miles of Matador, I recommend the hotel. read more

This is a very eclectic and quaint hotel decorated beautifully with antiques and a Western flair and a short drive to Caprock Canyon State Park. The owners are very hospitable and welcoming making you feel like family rather than a hotel guest and provided a bountiful breakfast made from scratch that was quite delicious!
