The land and sea here are picturesque and beautiful. Unfortunately, the service, organization and cleanliness of the hotel is subpar. We checked in on Saturday after a grueling day of international travel with two children. There was hardly a welcome, no help with the bags, and the small dusty rooms faced a busy parking lot. Since there is no air conditioning, the doors remained open to the busy parking lot all night. Our children were not allowed in the pool at any time; you must be 16 years old. The outside beach area was littered with broken glass and cigarettes from the prior evening. To be moved to a water facing room, we were upcharged and one of the two new rooms wasn't ready until 4pm. Probably best as a lunch spot before or after touring Kronburg...I would never sleep at this hotel again. read more

Normally, I would not write a review for a hotel in Denmark as I don't usually find them impressive or interesting enough. This one had a wow effect on me! It is right by the water and with the Helsingør castle view, beautifully done renovation, classical French style but in a Nordic clean and minimalistic way. The food has been wonderful, even the smørrebrød lunch I got was so good, yes even the pickled fish tasted good. Wonderful atmosphere, service minded staff and one of the best locations in Denmark. I am thinking that this must be a top wedding venue choice. I would love to go back for a weekend stay. read more

History

Established in 1858.

Hotel Marienlyst så dagens lys i 1858 og blev dengang ofte besøgt af Europas konger og fyrster, når disse var gæster hos den kongelige familie. Det første hotel, som stadig kan ses i Helsingør, blev dog for småt, og i 1902 byggede man det nuværende Marienlyst helt nede ved vandet. Under Anden Verdenskrig blev hotellet beslaglagt af den tyske værnemagt, og efter krigen måtte der store istandsættelser til, før Hotel Marienlyst igen strålede. Siden starten af 1990'erne er Marienlyst løbende blevet renoveret fra A-Z. Konferencecentret blev ombygget og nyindrettet, og herved skabtes et af Nordeuropas mest avancerede konferencecentre. Vores elegante casino fik også sine nuværende omgivelser i 1990. De sidste år har Marienlyst fortsat fornyelserne, senest med bar- og loungeområdet, så hotellet i dag fremtræder som et af de førende konferencecentre i Skandinavien og et af de mest eksklusive leisurehoteller i Nordeuropa.
