It s a typical and traditional German Black Forest style and design (Schwarzwald in German, it s the mountain. A lots of wood, old furniture from the area, but nicely arranged, it s not heavy. It a all in one, restaurant & bar, hotel and spa (see the pictures). The spa is brand new with a fitness room, sauna, swimming pool, jacuzzi, in spa bar... The food was very good, fine and tasty, like the fois gras soup with chanterelle mushroom and pork meat. The service was nice we were very well looked after. There is a nice ambiance around the bar. A nice taking care, fresh air weekend ? Go there.

They offer free breakfast buffet and they serve lots of fruits (which I didn't see at any other hotels in southern Germany), and yogurts, breads, cereals, cheeses and cold cuts, etc. The owner made fresh brewed coffee, semi hard boiled eggs (my favorite!) and bacons after we requested with no extra cost. We also tried their dinner and they were really good as well. (They even brought them to our room!). Only downside was that air conditioner was broken (and the room was really hot when we got there), but it cooled down around 9pm and we didn't need it anymore. I highly recommend it!!

A nice amenity is the fresh fruit and chocolate in the room. Breakfast is included with the room. The dinner at the restaurant was wonderful- there are numerous choices at a buffet for appetizers, with the remaining four courses served by wait staff. After a starter of a caprese salad, I had courses of a wonderful cold tomato soup, gnocchi, sea bass and homemade ice cream and sorbet with fresh fruit compote. The hotel offers cooking classes with their world class chefs. The classes are excellent but they are conducted in German. If you do not speak German, they will be difficult to follow or enjoy. Even with someone provided to translate, the class, tips and normal comraderary is missing from the experience.

Access to the hotel is easy and reception staff are friendly and quick. Rooms are reasonably spacious, clean and in good condition. The hotel, being on the edge of town, is quiet. A lift provides access to the various floors. A table in the restaurant is allocated to you, so for both breakfast and dinner (for those on half-board) you can go straight to your table without waiting to be seated. The quality of food served to those on half board is very good, with a soup, salad (from the extensive buffet), choice of mains and dessert. A once-weekly treat for meat lovers is the "grill evening" where the main course is replaced by a grill-buffet (of a very high standard). Service in the restaurant is quick (even on busy nights) and very friendly. Breakfast consists of an extensive buffet offering various cheeses and an array of cold meats (including fine Schwarzwälder Schinken, naturally), yoghurts, preserves, fruits juices and a wide selection of bread and rolls. The cafe (with terrace) offers coffee and cake from lunchtime onwards. Spa and sauna facilities are extensive and modern with a humorous Black Forest twist in the form of the "tree-house sauna". Further renovations of the reception and bar area are planned. Location-wise, the hotel sits at the top end of Tonbach, just up the valley from the Traube Tonbach. The area has extensive walking, hiking and cycling routes with extremely well marked paths and routes. The hotel also makes an excellent base for gourmets visiting the world famous restaurants of the town of Baiersbronn, in particular the "Schwarzwaldstube" which is only 100m away. In summary, this is an excellent family run hotel - ideal for a relaxing spa stay or for those seeking the exercise of walking / hiking / cycling or for gourmets.

Die Lage ist traumhaft Cocktails bei Sonnenuntergang auf der Terrasse mit Blick über den Black Forrest genial! Auch die Wellnesslandschaft und die Schokomassage einfach himmlich. Schön ist die Möglichkeit etwas Sport machen zu können (nicht nur Wandern in der Umgebung was auch super ist sondern auch der kleine Fitnessraum). Da ich beim Essen auf Laktose achten muss habe ich dass bei der Reservierung gleich angemerkt und jeden Abend eine separate Karte mit Menüvorschlägen bekommen super und von der roten Kugel (Himbeersorbet mit Geist) träume ich heute noch (die habe ich so oft bekommen wie ich wollte bis die Frau am Nebentisch meinte Sie will auch mal so eine Kugel wie die Dame am Nebentisch!). Got the big suite which was wunderbar. One of the outstanding things was the supplied breakfast which was "continental" but not like people think in America. They had tons to eat, including beautiful breads, wurst, cheese and charcuterie plus boiled eggs, fruit and all types of cereal. It was staggering. Just no hot stuff like pancakes or an omelette station which we think of in the States. Remember we are guests in their living room, so minimize your expectations of "American Style" and maintain your Smooveness. Grounds are breathtakingly beautiful. They even have a lawn Roomba which was about the coolest thing I have ever seen. Lots of weddings here so you can imagine how pretty the place is. Great restaurant too and used to accommodating large groups. The staff here is formal but very friendly. Don't look for a pool. That is unusual in these parts. We rented bikes and toured the countryside; the town was old and awesome. Very quaint with loads of shopping. So much good stuff to eat, at every turn. You cannot go wrong at any local eating places and almost everyone speaks English. We toured the castle, which was physically beautiful but a bit too tourist-centric for my tastes. There was a great little ice cream place there that you shouldn't miss. Parking in a pain in the ass, but doable as long as you have a small car. Car is a must in this region of Germany, BTW. No getting around it. This is the second time we've been here and the hotel just gets better and better. We are looking forward to our next trip.
