TRAVELER BEWARE! While traveling in western Europe last month, we spent a few days in Rome. While enjoying immensely the city itself, our hotel unfortunately left much to be desired. The structure itself is nice, well built and relatively comfortable, but we had several disappointing issues that significantly adversely affected our otherwise wonderful travels in Italy. First was the location, setting immediately adjacent to one of the larger freeways with excessively loud traffic noise, particularly if they place you on the freeway side, as they did us. Also the area is apparently known for being a pick-up place for local prostitutes, as our airport driver advised us upon arrival. Sure enough they were all over the place soliciting their trade right outside the driveway. In addition the room they assigned us to had an incredibly small square shower, measuring no more than 18" by 18". I am a home builder by trade, and I have never seen a shower this small in any home in the U.S. in my entire professional career. It was not until the last day of our stay that we realized that not all the rooms were outfitted with this impossible to use fixture, and that several of the other rooms had quite large, luxurious showers. Something to keep in mind should you, for some inexplicable reason, decide to book here. The worse situation we dealt with however was the air conditioning, or lack thereof. We finally figured out that they control the room temperature from the check -in desk, and despite the fact that following our numerous complaints that the room was very uncomfortably warm and that they even sent a service tech to mechanically fix the problem in our room (I know a lot about A/C systems and I could not see that he did anything purposefully at all to actually repair the equipment or remedy the situation) the room never was properly cooled to a comfortable temperature throughout our entire stay (except for one night when I think I shamed the desk girl to lowering it from her own remote control) . Then to add insult to injury, when we finally checked out a few days later, they refused to provide us with any level of credit for our multiple discomforts. We have traveled all around the world and this stay was one of our worst experiences ever...TRAVELER BEWARE! read more
