The establishment is very intimate and small. Due to its popularity, it is advised that you call before coming for a view of the ocean and an excellent meal. The chef and her son, Marco, are the only two running the Osteria. Our experience was very personalized, we were catered by both like house guests. The ingredients are as fresh as can be; the port is right in front of you! Quality is top-notch and you can taste the love that is put into making each dish. The calamari, shrimp, and tuna (everything!) we had throughout our lunch were cooked perfectly. One of my favorite menu items is the Baccala Bruschetta (shown in the added picture): salted cod, potato, onion, and more cooked together and placed on 2 kinds of hot toasted bread. My other favorite is the plate of sardines on arucola, drizzled with a sweet, thick balsamic vinegar. The natural saltiness of the sardines, the crisp freshness of the rucola, and the caramel sweetness of the aged balsamic sent me straight to heaven. Everything we ordered was a hit. You can't make a mistake! I have already planned another vacation here, just to revisit this life-changing place.

Sadly that's where the good news ends. I'm willing to take part of the blame, beyond 'buongiorno' and 'arriverderci' I am the ignorant American. Our waitress described a dish, in English, as artichokes, butter and toasted bread. Pretty close. When the dish arrived the warm anchovies in butter (no sign of artichokes) were a bit of a surprise. Shrimp were all peel and eat. The 'scampi' was comprised of large whole limp crawfish. The best dishes were whole oven-baked fish and quite wonderful oven baked sliced potatoes. If you're careful in your ordering you can have a lovely meal and evening. Wonderful fresh salad and cold seafood salad as well. One final caveat - do not sit by the interior windowed wall. It forms a wind and heat seal and turns the table into a sauna.

La Regina di Napoli sits right on the Porto Santo Stefano and was described as the must have locals spot. The fish is brought directly to the restaurant from the docking fishermen just steps away. It could not be a more beautiful location for experiencing the most incredible local Italian food. We tried pizzas, appetizers, and everything else. We got a pitcher of Prosecco to wash it all down. This meal made memories that may ruin me for stateside US restaurants. If you've already researched or ventured into Monte Argentario you know that this isn't a tourist town. This is local Italians only where only Italian is spoken. Not many foreign tourists know about Argentario & we quickly had to brush up on ordering and communicating in Italian to get through (and avoid being exiled as annoying tourists) Speaking of exiled, Caravaggio was exiled to Argentario where he lived out his later years. His tomb can be found in Porto Ercole. It's a fascinating, beautiful, very local and rural town. And such an awesome adventure!! Just go!!

He had a biggest calzone we have ever seen. It was so delicious! He ate almost the whole thing which says a lot because he usually can't eat that much. I had the homemade spaghetti noodles with prawns. It was also delicious. There was a little kick to it which made it even better. At first, I thought there wasn't enough prawns in the dish but there were some under the pasta!
