If you ever find yourself fortunate enough to be in Monte Argentario, Italy...you may be the only…read morenot-Italian tourists in the whole town...and you will be in pure heaven. This was exactly what we were looking for when we planned this leg of our trip. We traveled across Europe all summer during high tourist season and the July heatwave. To find a little slice of heaven on the Tuscan coast near water that wasn't overrun with tourists was a miracle. Argentario is technically a peninsula sitting along the Tuscan coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea. It's a fishing town with stunning shorelines and beaches. The trick is finding a spot to beach for the day if you don't speak Italian and you're not staying in one of the pricey hotels along the waterfront. We walked along the shore hoping for a place we could stop when we came upon the iconic umbrellas at Hotel La Caletta. We were able to reserve lounge chairs and umbrellas for the day at a very reasonable price (I recall $15/day per chair) by walking directly up to the beach bar. The Beach bar staff were amazing helping me figure out in Italian what I needed to do. Once you've rented a chair and umbrellas, you have full access to the bar and restaurant. We had entered past a snorkeling shop and were able to rent snorkeling gear for $10. We were in Argentario the week before one of the Italian breaks. Since Argentario is a hot spot for Italian travelers but not many foreigners know about it, we had the beach practically to ourselves with a few hotel guests and locals. Time your stay here before or after Italian weekends and holidays. The rest is history. Memories of sunning, swimming, and snorkeling along the reefs of the turquoise Tyrrhenian Sea from the beautiful beaches of Hotel La Caletta are forever core. When we return to Argentario, which we absolutely will, we will book our stay at this lovely piece of heaven.

The room was comfy with a good view, the AC & TV worked perfectly. Parking was no problem, hotel breakfast, dinner and all amenities were all great. their chef is super. Staff was friendly, the private beach and bar were very nice. A 5 minute walk puts you in the heart of the village with more restaurants and shops, etc. Disliked · Getting English language on the TV's was a challenge, but we figured out one station we could watch. There is no laundry service, so plan ahead. It would have been handy to have the evening restaurant menu printed in English, but the wait staff was always happy to translate. The beach lounges were assigned by room, which in our case kind of put us off in the boonies. Looking forward, changing out the lounges to something a little more versatile and adjustable would be nice.

Tiny back roads, and there is nothing nearby. Finally, you arrive to the gates and the magic that holds Il Pellicano. We were taken to our room, and to be honest we ended up switching rooms as the first room was far off in a cottage and had an old bathroom. The new room was a junior suite in the main building with stunning views of the Mediterranean. We had our own patio and a new gorgeous white marble bathroom. Sheets were very nice and the bed was comfortable. I did not love the pillows. They have their own line of organic bath products and while the bottles are adorable, I didn't love the smell or quality of the products themselves. We dined in both of the restaurants, the formal two michelin star restaurant as well as the more casual Pelli Grill. Both were excellent and make it easy to stay at the hotel all day long. The beach area is the most dramatic and gorgeous that I have ever seen. They have an excellent snack menu with a long assortment of homemade ice teas and lemonade. It's lovely to spend the entire day here. We swam in the ocean even though it was absolutely freezing. It was fun nonetheless. There is a beautiful spa and gym. We had massages that were ok, and I had a great polish change. The gym had a lovely selection of machines, weights and waters. To sit and have a cocktail before dinner was just heavenly. They have a very talented pianist and they bring you the most gourmet snacks while you enjoy your pre-dinner drink. They brought us dog bowls and a bed for our little dog and were friendly but he was not allowed at restaurants, which seems to be a common theme in Italy. Overall a fabulous hotel and I cannot wait to return.
