I picked this hotel during a trip to Germany because of the location - it is close to the university and technology center. You can actually easily walk to the university, there is a restaurant on site and a grocery store and Italian restaurant close by. How could this go wrong?
Well, there are 8 channels on the tv. All German and nothing that even Germans would probably want to watch (no sports, no premium / cable channels). The "wireless" was horrible. My iPhone would not connect to it. My laptop sorta would connect but I would get booted every 10-15 minutes and when I was connected the speed was atrociously slow.
Every morning there was a breakfast which started out great. The 3rd day at the hotel the owner walked up to me and started yelling that I was sitting at the wrong table and she couldn't understand why I didn't know that. I saw people were sitting at the table next to me when I sat down and I sat there the day before so I didn't think it would be a problem. I guess the table was set for lunch / dinner so they had to reset the table when I finished. That's fine I admit I sat at the wrong table but having worked in the hospitality industry for a few years I know if a nice paying customer makes a mistake like that you educate them politely and go from there. I felt so un-welcomed after being dressed down that I refused to eat breakfast there for the rest of my stay. Oh and spoiler alert: on top of this the breakfast that at most hotels is complimentary is actually 5 Euros a day! You learn this at check out...
I gave this hotel 2 stars because the dinner staff at the hotel and the front desk staff were pretty nice and the location is decent.
Knowing what I know about Ulm now, if you are planning on visiting the university or tech center I'd go with two other options:
1. The bus system in Ulm is fantastic, stay downtown and take a bus to the university area.
2. Stay at the IQ hotel right at the tech center. You get free breakfast and wherever you are visiting probably has lunch so you are just on the hook for dinner. For dinner you could either get groceries at a close by store in Lehr or take the bus downtown.
If I could do it over I would have done one of the options above. Sadly I cannot recommend this hotel. read more
