They leave the main power off until you check in, because this tiny village primarily runs on solar power. That's totally fine as we are used to this in southern Baja. We just spent a week in Mulegé and surrounding bays which are all powered by solar! Our room was well appointed with 2 beds and blackout curtains on both windows. There was a nice bathroom with a huge closet! This property is pet friendly as well! The restaurant was closed, but since we were there and nothing else in town was open on New Year's Day, the gal obliged and cooked us dinner anyway! It was very good! She even gave us complimentary beers! The parking is secured and off street. They closed the gates to the parking lot around 8 maybe 9 I didn't pay close attention. The power is shut off by 10pm which is advertised and normal in solar powered places. The water is hot as it is heated by propane so you can shower at anytime. The beds and pillows in the Casita 2, were super comfortable! I could have slept all day here! The roads to get here are sporty. We came in on a short cut from Mulegé and it was approximately 120-140KM of the gnarliest dirt road! Only passable with high ground clearance and 4x4. We have a big truck so it was possible but very difficult and bumpy. It made the lovely hotel and comfortable beds ever the more welcoming! There is a paved road that is much further south and takes a lot longer from where we originated but if you're in a small car or vehicle without 4x4 or low ground clearance it will get you there. I'd recommend a visit to scorpion bay and San Juanico. It is a cute town and supposedly has great surfing. I would stay at the Scorpion Bay Hotel again in a heartbeat!

While there are quite a few camping options, we were looking for a hotel and this place had what we were looking for...and some extras. The hotel grounds were beautiful and the little casitas were large and well-appointed (minus a hairdryer and tv). Oh yeah, the hotel ,at the time when we visited, only had power from 8am-12pm and 6pm-12am. That was all kinds of kooky, but we made do. If anything, we made it a special event to watch the lights go out at night. It's the little things, I tell ya! The town itself was pretty desolate and the hotel restaurant was closed at night. However, the nice guy at the check in desk gave us a great recommendation for dinner at El Burro.Loved it. Overall, probably the best place to stay in San Juanico. Just be sure to watch out for the critters. I caught a crazy huge spider in our room on the day of checkout, and probably wouldn't have been able to sleep in our room had I caught it the night before. However, it did make for a nice story.

My first impression was the uniqueness of the building design. Very cool architecture…read more My next impression was that the hotel was small, but not quite small enough to qualify as a boutique hotel. The parking lot probably only has 20 spaces and the lobby was very inviting. Check in was fairly smooth, but not very friendly. The king room was fairly spacious, equipped with a fridge, microwave, ironing board, a safe and a great view of the water. (All rooms face the water but there are only 4 floors so aim high if available). The pool area has two jacuzzis but only one was actually hot during my stay. I didn't make it into either. No direct access to the beach as there is no beach directly below the property but there is sand on the lower level below the pool area. Poolside service was pretty good, the beer was nice and cold and the coconut shrimp were delicious.

While checking in we learned the hot tub was closed for maintenance but the pool was open and heated. We checked the pool when we went to dinner and it was cold. We woke up on Saturday morning to the sound of grinding and sanding from the pool area. The have a work crew grinding , cutting and sanding the pool deck with dust filling the pool and entire deck. The only reason we returned was to enjoy the heated pool and hot tub. My question or complaint is why is this work scheduled for a weekend? This is not a repair or down a few hours for cleaning, this is a big project. And should have need planned for the middle of the week when less people are staying.

I travel a lot so my expectations are reasonable and consistent. Playa Blanca deserves 3 1/2 stars…read morebut it's not quite deserving of four stars and certainly NOT 5 stars! The staff is accommodating and helpful and I guarantee you will need them for "issues." During my check in I experienced a few nuisances. The shower pressure was just okay, the water not very hot and wreaked of a smell like sulphur, and the shower pan pooled up away from the drain and latex stagnant. The televisions are tricky at first but eventually it was figured out and that's only because I'm "techy." Most living rooms don't have curtains, which isn't the end of the world, but it does limit some privacy a little. The bedrooms are away from the Oceanside where I would prefer to open a window and listen to the ocean. The beach and sunsets are stunning and worthy of wishing you could stop time. During off peak season the restaurant opens only on Sunday so you will need a car. The gym has a view but the equipment needs some repair & attention. The condos are well appointed but not perfect. The kitchen only has two electrical outlets and both are on either side of the stove. There are no outlets on the countertop where you really need them and where you would do your food prep! The beds aren't as comfortable as I like and there should be additional linens and pillows available. The pool has four jacuzzis and only one works! The one that does work had like warm water at best so it was useless. If I were to sum up my personal opinion of Playa Blanca Condominiums I would compare it like this; Playa Blanca San Carlos is to Cabo San Lucas what Laughlin Nevada is to Las Vegas Nevada (if you are familiar with Laughlin and Las Vegas you will know what I mean).

Don't expect US cleanliness levels though. Slightly worn furniture and light wear on the interior are normal here. The breakfast area is harbor side with good choices. Lots of restaurants in walking distance. Water bottles are provided. Rooms have AC and fans. Tiled bathrooms. Most trims have balconies. Prices are high for local market but reasonable for US. Good for families and for business travelers. I recommend this hotel when visiting Guaymas.
