I'm not familiar with the specific criteria, but this is a very basic economy style hotel. Staff were friendly. There is not much of a lobby area. The gym is more of an exercise room that's located on the top floor adjacent to the rooftop terrace and feels crowded if more than 2 ppl are present. Breakfast was more of a continental breakfast - several bread and pastry options, cold meats and cheese. Three hot options - scrambled eggs, fried eggs and sausage/bacon. Location was not very close to the history / gothic center so can be a bit of a walk. Overall it was quite expensive for such a basic hotel in a quieter part of town.

So sit back, relax, and unbuckle that seat belt, because this little ride has ZERO turbulence (and sorry no complimentary peanuts or booze). --------------------------------------------------- In June Twenty16, we booked our very first Euro trip and Barcelona Spain was stop numero uno! For our first trip to Europe, we decided to book everything through a 3rd party booking agency which handled all flights, hotels and rail accommodations. Lucky for us and looking back on the overall trip, everything worked out with all travel and hotel stays. As Barcelona, was our first city on the trip we were pleasantly surprised when we walked up on Hotel H10 Itaca. Not knowing what to expect, especially being in a foreign nation where my espanol is muy pequito at best. Nonetheless, we walked in and were graciously greeted by their front desk staff. Success!!! They spoke English!!!! Upon a smooth check-in, we headed up to our floor and stopped at our hotel room door and paused... THE MOMENT OF TRUTH We walked in, looked around and let out a sigh of pure relief... The Spaniards like Americans believe in comfy beds, private restrooms (not community bathing areas) and beautiful views of the hustle and bustle of of the city below. Warning! Warning!! Warning!!! That fixture next to the to toilet in the bathroom is not a drinking fountain, but a Bidet and for the record... NO! I did not try it Hahaha. On our first night, we decided to go explore the city and see how the people of Barcelona get down. We walked about 10 minutes from the hotel peeking in at different restaurant menus along the way and decided to eat at tapas bar that looked inviting (no, this is not Spanish for topless bar) lol ADVICE: when ordering a beer, don't do like I did and almost say "dos Cervezas por favor" (It's not Mexico!) Fortunately, my wife did her homework ahead of time and told me to say, "Una Caña" when our server came around. Best part, the beer (caña) was Damn good and damn cheap too!! Ahhh just writing this I'm missing beautiful Barcelona. The next morning, we headed down to breakfast and Oh. What. A. Treat. A buffet-style meal that included all of the good stuff; cured meats, cheeses, pastries, eggs, yogurt, coffee, juices, let's just say I was a happy boy! The hotels location was quite ideal for everything we wanted or needed as it is just minutes away from the metro. There is a small bar and I mean a SMALL BAR on the ground level in the lobby that serves up local drinks. And of course, you know I had to check in on Yelp to receive my complimentary glass of Cava (Spain's sparkling wine) and it was GOOD!!!!! Well... I had fun going down memory lane and now I have an itch to go back to Barcelona, thanks Yelp ;) My only hope is that this review has helped inspire you to get out there, to travel and to experience other cultures because that's what life is all about! For once life returns back to normal, traveling the world will definitely be on my radar once again! Until then, stay safe, be kind and smile often! Cheers and Adiós!

I went with this place based on TripAdvisor (I only cheated on Yelp because Barcelona is sparse on here). Overall, I was very happy with the decision: - Check in was simple and reception spoke English, Spanish and Catalan - The bathroom was large, had marble counters, a detachable shower head, and was filled with all kinds of toiletries and extra towels (and a bidet, if that's your thing) - There is a switch that opens and closes the main window, all Jetsons-like - There are three sets of curtains - total blackout - There is a large, easy to use safe in the room - I didn't order room service but the menu was fairly large - Price was 160 Euros for two nights - very reasonable If there were any downsides, it was these: - The bed felt like it was made of straw. Very weak mattress..thin like a pull out couch - No one was noisy when I was there, but the few times people were talking, you could tell that the walls were very thin. I think I got lucky. - The location has its ups and downs. It's two blocks from two different metro stations that can get you just about anywhere very quickly. However, there is literally nothing around the hotel, and it's a good 10-15 minute walk to even get to a main shopping/restaurant area. If you wanted to walk less (or want to stay out past the midnight Metro closing), then it could be annoying. I would definitely recommend this for a solo traveler or anyone looking to save money - lots of value for the price.

* * * I booked Hotel Catalonia Roma in Barcelona at the last minute. My room was snug--cozy rather than claustrophobic--and overlooked the central light-well, meaning my view was... let's call it "minimalist." But for the price, no complaints. The room was spotless, there was a mini-fridge, the air conditioning was glorious (Barcelona heat, I see you!), and the shower had excellent water pressure. To be real: I spent most of my time on the rooftop, where there's an amazing pool and some fantastic views of the city. Pro tip: bring your shades, because that rooftop sun will hit you like a sangria hangover. Located super close to Sants station (handy for both train hopping and metro excursions), surrounded by grocery stores and cultural hotspots, the locale is good. All in all, Catalonia Roma is a perfect base for a spontaneous Barcelona adventure, even if your room view is more "inner courtyard" than "Mediterranean sunset."

I wish we'd stayed at my company's hotel near the Gotic for a little more each night. The Silken wasn't worth its discount. The room had an overpowering smell, like men's deodorant (though, luckily, one of the windows opened and quickly aired out the room). Beds were hard as a rock. Our "view" for an "upgraded room" was of the construction site behind hotel. There was a weird lack of basic necessities and amenities - no tissues, no glassware, no clock. You had to open the fridge to get to the safe. The lights for the bathroom were across the room, next to the bed. The designer of this place was on something - and not in a good way. Oh, the bathroom. The rest of the reviews are true - bathrooms are entirely see-through. There is a rolling screen in place but it doesn't hide much unless you shower in the dark. And then you have an odd view of clothed people in a room while you shower. It's unnerving. Great for couples! But bad for anyone else.
