We were in room 101 for two nights which faced the Saône River. As we only had two days to explore Lyon, we opted for a bike tour which we explored on our own, and also did a fair bit of hiking around the area, but also had the hotel book a Lyonnaise dinner at a local bouchon the night before we left. The hotel has its own kitchen and makes breakfast and sandwiches for lunch, not included in your accommodation. Lyon is know as the gastronomic capital of the world, and it is well deserved with selections of food and wine pairings that make your mind spin. We visited the Basilica Notre Dame of Fourviere which was up a steep incline behind the hotel about 1 mile away, and had a very good view of the town. Loved our stay here. The hosts were very accommodating and friendly.

The building itself is VERY Lyon, with the classic stacked staircases look you'll see throughout the old city and its traboules. But the rooms are weird. We stayed in one of the Ateliers suites. Ours was film themed. It was strange that the bathroom was along the staircase to the master bedroom, like you walked past the sink and drying off area. But then the toilet was downstairs without a sink. And there seems to be many technical issues. Ours was that the internet barely worked. There was one area my iPhone would work, but my wife's Android wouldn't connect from anywhere. Other reviews also seem to indicate that air conditioning is not reliable (but we came in November). Making up for it all though is the service. The concierge was great. The bar had excellent cocktails. The restaurant is renowned. I am happy we stayed here but in the future I'd probably stay someplace more updated, probably in the 1st arrondissement, where it would be easier to explore the entire city.

We were a group of 3 couples, so we had 3 rooms, and all were dark/poorly lighted, with old beds, and old bedding. We finally were told that the hotel was closing next week for about a six-month renovation! But we were not given a reduction in the top-tier room rates we paid. The rooms were quiet because the old walls are so thick, but it would be easy to fall on one of the old, windy stone staircases linking the rooms. I will be curious about how much money will be spent to bring this old abbey into the 21st century!

There is no proper restaurant, although they have a breakfast room that serves quite a nice breakfast (croissants, yoghurt, cereal, juice, tea, etc) for 6€. Would definitely recommend this place for anyone wanting to be in the heart of the old city area of Leon (1e arrondissement), within walking distance to the most famous parts of Lyons. Would stay definitely stay here again.

Aside from the hotel, there's professional offices, restaurants, shopping, and an educational institution. All of this exists on the campus that is Hôtel Dieu and it's right in the heart of the city. You're steps away from a large central plaza area and all of the shopping you could want to do. The rooms use their space very well. Our room was spacious and overlooked the courtyard. The building itself is quite impressive. The staff were wonderful and very helpful recommending dinner choices for our exploration of Lyonnaise cuisine. It was comfortable and worked for us for our 2 days in town. Perfectly located for exploring. and dining out. We walked everywhere. Breakfast was provided and was very nice. We did not have dinner in the hotel. We did explore a few of the night spots and bars connected to the hotel all were enjoyable. There are many young folks in this part of town during the evening hours.
