However, we had no way to successfully manage the temperature in our room. As southern Spain never gets as cold as my native Michigan, I found the room exceedingly warm, and the thermostat didn't allow for the heat to be turned off. I ended up sleeping on the balcony one night because I couldn't bear the stuffiness. Amenities: the dining room is elegant. We enjoyed the local cheese plate and some of the other local dishes on the menu. Be forewarned though, that the coffee was subpar. Location: both the most wonderful and worst part of this hotel. Because this parador is a castle at the top of the mountain, the views are epic. However, the switchbacks down the mountain into town make this inconvenient if you wanted to enjoy a trip into Jaén or visit a local hiking trail. My recommendation is to just stay at the hotel and enjoy the amenities. I enjoyed my stay but probably won't stay in this hotel again.

Very impressive former castle and now hotel. Stopped by for a coffee on the way out of Malaga. The…read morecastle retains a traditional decor and atmosphere. The main dining room is giant and has several pieces of antique furniture and artwork, including a massive decorative tapestry which does looks to be in its orgiinal condition and not restored. Great little pitstop and the coffee itself was fabulous, the service also outstanding especially compared to the rest of Spain.
