Additionally, Paolo was an incredible host - he messaged me great details about the hotel before my stay and was communicative throughout. When I did check in, he provided great information and directions - and also a discount card for the main sites around San Marino! The hotel itself is also spotless and well function - everything was extremely clean, the wifi worked excellent, outlets well positioned for charging devices. You're really getting an incredible hotel experience - for an excellent price. The one downside was I found the walls very thin. It's possible that it was my room specifically - or maybe my neighbors were particularly loud, but I had difficulty falling asleep becuase I was able to hear the room across from me talking in their room and unlocking/locking the room door itself. If you're a heavy sleeper, it's certainly not an issue - but be warned for light sleepers that noisy neighbors who are up late might pose a problem.

When I realized my mistake, I was able to reach Paolo on WhatsApp at almost midnight and he saved the day by reworking my reservation and not charging me. The rest of the staff was helpful with information, directions on how to get to the hotel and other sights in the city. Being a city perched on the very top of a mountain leads to some interesting roads and paths! They also allowed me to store my luggage after checkout whilst I explored. The staff can make or break a stay, they definitely made staying there worth it. The hotel itself is spotless. Like most buildings in the city, it is built of stone and looks beautiful. They have a few parking spots and also can arrange for free parking at on of the city lots of you don't wish to try and navigate up to the hotel. The hotel is located near the second of the three famous towers of San Marino, convenient for sightseeing. I ended up in the family suite as it was the last available room. It had two rooms, one with a double bed, the second with two single beds. The room with the double bed had access to a private terrace (also accessable through the bathroom). No view but a nice private place to sit outside in. The bathroom was spacious and had a bathtub with water jets. Nice to relax in after hiking around the city all day. The included breakfast was the typical European breakfast of pastries, cold cuts, cereals, Nutella , yogurt, etc. Nice to start the day with. I didn't eat in the restaurant for any other meal so can't comment on that. If you're planning a getaway to San Marino, definitely stay here if you can.

La Casina del Bosco serves delicious piadines which to North Americans is essentially a freshly made tortilla bread with different toppings. This particular spot is also popular for drinks and has a huge patio for outdoor dining.

I made the right choice of venue. What an absolutely gorgeous outdoor cafe with charming, efficient and totally on the ball staff and the fastest service I've had since arriving in Italy. I even had a few language lessons with the waitstaff who humoured me as I practiced my very beginner Italian on them. The first thing that caught my eye and consequently ordered was piadina alla porchetta. A spectacular choice. The piadina itself was light, slightly toasty, with a nice hint of olive oil but the main attraction was the pig. Delicious, sumptuous, well seasoned porchetta made this dish a massive hit for me. And for just €5 I was suitably impressed. I happily spent a solitary hour here soaking up the atmosphere, sipping on coffee and reflecting on my delicious meal. Thumbs up from me. Next time I'll be trying their gelato desserts too. They looked delicious!

He took our reservation for the late evening and was friendly and inviting. The dinner was wonderful. The name means "divine angle" - an allusion to the tucked away location at an angle off of the main street. It is also a pun on divine "da vino" suggestive of the well selected wines on the wine list and the nice atmosphere for drinking wine with dinner companions. When we returned for dinner, two of us selected a tasting menu based on fish while the other two ordered a la carte. The amuse-bouche was a fresh oyster and a second amuse-bouche appeared with a thin piece of bread with sardine. We enjoyed both. Even those who dislike sardines raved about the wonderful bread and simple salty and sea taste. We all enjoyed our meals from the terraced table. But we really enjoyed the atmosphere and watching the chef work his magic through the open front door and kitchen. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone wanting a casual, but fine dining experience with a wonderful, secluded atmosphere. Great service as well.

Excellent value for money offered by a one star Michelin restaurant!…read more No one of our group would have imagined that we will find a restaurant of the highest gastronomic standards in a very rural Italian area. Thanks to the guide Michelin we did. It did not only win one star, but also a price for great value for money. http://www.viamichelin.com/web/Restaurant/Pennabilli-61016-Il_Piastrino-144784-41102 Before we ordered, we discussed the details of the intended menu choice with the head waiter. Since we wanted to have a more filling menu, we were adviced to choose the menu called "Radici" instead of "1Mezzo". Instead of the only 6 courses of 1Mezzo (40€), the menu Radici turned out to have 3 additional snack courses (45€). Particularly these snacks were very delicious. The criticism in more detail: + Outstanding value for money + Very rich and filling menu + Most dishes good/very good, some stunning and excellent + Excellent expertise of waiter (both for wine, menu choice and dish explanations) + Very eager to provide a very good service + Great willingness to advise customer in advance via phone/email + Great ambiance and interior design + Arrangement of restaurant in different rooms creates pleasant feeling of privacy + Splendid for groups (Setting up a superior table for 17 persons -after reservation- was no problem whatsoever) - Great restaurant, but Michelin star not justified - Service sometimes not attentive enough (to wait several minutes until wine is refilled, experience some cutlery confusion, etc. is not appropriate for a one star Michelin restaurant) - Very poor English skills, hence communication cery difficult - At one dish there was a little worm (!) inside one of the cep/boletus slices. For a one star Michelin it is totally inacceptable. Unfortunately, the affected person did not let the waiters know about it. On the other hand it has to be mentioned that these mushrooms were handpicked and of the highest quality. Nevertheless, definetly a big no-go and setback of one star If this restaurant is judged as a normal restaurant (without taking into consideration the mishappenings), it would certainly deserve five stars. As a Michelin restaurant, it would deserve 3 or 4 Yelp stars, but due to the value for the price four stars are justified despite the mentioned incidents. Nevertheless, definetly recommended!
