This hotel has a lot of things one typically misses in others: I think we got the last room on a crowded weekend and it was excellent such as: Marble slabs in the bathroom; sound proof doors; boxspring beds; ... the peanuts were missing in the minibar, but then, I'am not a particular fan anyway.

The rooms are good and typically German with good beds and hearty breakfast waiting for you. There used to be an evening restaurant but with Herr Bundschuh no longer in the kitchen it has stoppped. I've been going there for 23 years and would not consider anywhere else unless they were fully booked. For those that know, one last time. Englist tea with German water, California sunshine and lastly Regards of the chicken oh happy days ;o) X = You've gotta be kidding me XX = trying but not reaching the standard expected or advertised XXX = achieving the standards expected/advertised however high that might be XXXX = they're doing something special here, above expected standards of service XXXXX = WOW! you gotta go here!

This is a lovely hotel with spectacular views of the Lohr valley and you couldn't be nearer to…read morewalking in the Spessart if you camped out in the forest. We had a friendly welcome at reception, despite having two soggy dogs in tow, and arriving later than expected due to the awful traffic round Aschaffenburg. The en suite room was a really good size, and spotlessly clean, and luckily the dogs accepted that they weren't allowed to jump onto the white bedding. The breakfast buffet was lovely and fresh, with a good selection of breads and cereals, fresh fruit eggs etc. No need to go hungry here. There's also a lovely terrace, which I'm sure would be a delight to sit out on if it hadn't been so cold and wet. Two brave souls did sit out one afternoon, they must have been in love. There's a well stocked bar, and the service was excellent. The only downside was the restaurant. The service was very good, but the food in the evening didn't reflect the rest of the hotel, and left us slightly disappointed, if not slightly queasy (a medium steak which arrived dripping with blood and a beautifully cooked piece of chicken murdered in its bed of dubious peanut flavoured sauce, were just two reasons we ate out the next evening). Looking at their website they are changing their menu at the end of March, so maybe we were just unlucky.
