Hotel Astrid - Good location, about a 7 minute walk to Grand Place where the annual Belgian Beer Festival is held, St. Catherine's, and De Brouckere. Lots of places to eat nearby and about a 5-7 minute walk to the bus line and metro. We stayed for 3 nights as part of a tour group for the Beer Festival. According to our guide our accomodations were booked a year in advance. Somehow there was a mix up in the booking (possibly because of new management?) and quite a few of our bed/room preferences as well as breakfast bookings were not honored. By the way, if your breakfast is not included in your room price, the hotel breakfast will run you €15,00 per person. It's buffet style as is most hotels, and offers the standard European style breakfast with cheese and breads, cereals, as well as scrambled eggs, sausage, beans and ravioli for those who prefer a hot breakfast, coffee machine and juices. Standard fare but a little overpriced at €15,00. We found a lot of breakfast cafe's close by on our 2nd and 3rd day that offered a hot breakfast, coffee, and yummy Belgian waffles for a few euros cheaper. Our room was adequate in space, big enough for 2, we had 2 single beds which luckily could be pushed together, and your standard European comforters. The closet was big enough for clothes and small empty suitcases, and had 4 shelves for clothes. 2 extra pillows and blankets are stored in the closet. The room safe was "out of order", the TV worked with quite a few English, French, Italian, German, and Dutch news channels, the window opened for fresh air and the AC worked well, though a little creaky and noisy. Bathroom had tub/shower, fairly clean, and they provided shower gel packets and hand soap bars. No fridge or coffee pot in the room, but there is a vending machine in the lobby to grab coffee, water or sodas. As with most front desk staff, some were very helpful, others were not, hit and miss. They did have a small room near the desk to store luggage as we were early and check-in wasn't until 3pm. 2 small elevators will get you up to your room so no struggling with suitcases. Free wifi with a log in required every 4 hours was decent and strong enough for internet surfing. The hotel was old but adequate, and if not for the mix up in bookings would have earned another half a star. read more
