The rooms are hardwood floors, not carpet, and the bathrooms are tiled. Everything in the room was very clean, and the AC worked great. I'm not sure if this place was built recently but the staff keeps it looking like the first day it opened. There is also a car park available if needed. If you're passing through Cologne, I would highly recommend staying here.

It was a weekend booking made barely ten days before the trip ... and a room for two set us back by only 83 euros. How cool is that !! :) 2. Convenient location ... about a 10 minute walk from the station/cathedral. 3. Medium sized room ... but very clean and properly presented. The bathroom was disproportionately large (compared to the room). The facilities were very good. From towels to slippers to air-conditioning ... they had them all :) 4. I needed to charge my iPhone. The receptionist readily gave me an USB charger for the night. He was very helpful. 5. The bar at the lobby is open 24 hours. It doesn't have every drink under the sun ... but the collection is good enough for a very late night drink. 6. The wifi is free and the signal is very strong all across the hotel. I had just two complaints ... they couldn't activate our key cards properly for quite some time which resulted in us having to wait a long time before we could get into the room ... and that a single whisky with coke in the bar cost 10 euros .... a bit steep in my opinion. But the pros heavily outweighed the cons. Santo will be top of my list whenever i have to visit Koln next.

I paid an exorbitant rate around the Dmexco conference (249 euros), which is vastly overpriced... It is right near the central train station, so I suppose it has that going for it. Otherwise, I would not return. Tip: If your breakfast isn't included in your rate, skip it. Nothing special. 19 euros is way overpriced! You can find something tastier at the train station for a quarter of the price.

The bed was comfortable. The location was wonderful. You are just a short walk away from the Cologne Cathedral! My only complaint, really, is that housekeeping ignored my request to have them not clean my room twice, and each time they threw away my pastries I had purchased to eat when I woke up in the wee hours of the morning! I was on US time zone, so I would wake up at 4AM starving! I loved exploring Germany from this starting point!

The service is kind and hospitable, and your stay comes with a plentyful amount of perks. For instance the fitness, pool and spa section, to which I would like to pay an extra compliment: A ticket for the fitness/wellness section will cost you 10 Euros, which are added to your bill at checkout. Towels come with the entrance as well as a key for a locker. You will need to be aware, that bathing suits are prohibited in the spa area. You want sauna, steam bath and other wellness stuff - don't be afraid to go buck naked among other men and women. However, as opposed to the Danish way (big shower rooms, in which people all to often are seen showering wearing their swimsuits), the Germans have screened showering compartments, which ensures that everyone who is to enter the pool have no excuse to not be clean. In these compartments, you can wash yourself all over and not be impaired by chastity and shyness. I like this sentiment, as bathing suits all to often carry residues of chlorine along with body bacteria, which are released with the heat in a sauna or in the warm waters of a jacuzzi. However, for the pool, you will need your bathing suit. The wellness section itself is wonderful, featuring relaxation chairs, bio sauna and steam bath a perfect place for relaxing after a day climbing the Kölner Dom. Highly recommendable, and definitely this hotels biggest trump card!

The room was very clean and tastefully decorated, with a little more panache than you might expect in a typical hotel. The room was typically small, but that's to be expected with most European hotels (it wasn't painfully small by any means.) The bed was comfortable and we slept well. Hotel Domstern offers one of the best breakfast buffets you're likely to find, with delicious homemade breads, rolls, cereals, fruit, eggs prepared to order, juices, coffees, and more. We could have stayed and eaten breakfast all day long! The free WiFi service worked well in our room and at breakfast. We really enjoyed our short stay there, and would stay there again without reservation.

They liked that they had a spa and pool here. I was first taken aback by other guests walking around in the spa area, rather scantily clad. Much different than being back in the states. This hotel was closer to the old city, Altstadt, but a little further away from the cathedral. I wasn't fond of the directional and one ways to get to this hotel. It wasn't always easiest to get to, if you don't know your way around. There is however a close S-bahn station pretty much in front of the hotel. Still there's a lot of food options in the vicinity and some great gelato places as well. The best time to be here was always during Christmas. I always had the Christmas market set up and there's a really nice one always at the altstadt as well as at the Dom, which is close by. It is also not far from the shopping center or main street for shopping, Hohe strasse.

The rooms are nice and spacious and well equipped and clean. The bed was also very nice and comfortable. Plenty of bars and restaurants in the hotel itself and also plenty nearby. Prices were reasonable and I enjoyed my stay here. The food was average and whilst there was plenty on offer for our conference the taste was not great. I did visit two of the bars with colleagues and they were both nice and friendly places and plenty of room to hang about. The conference facilities here are excellent and spacious. It's hard to imagine such a big hotel exists in the middle of town. I would happily stay here again. It's a well located hotel in Cologne.

The Jameson Distillery Pub is a great lunch or dinner choice, only a block from the hotel (they also offer an Irish breakfast). The location is the best part of the hotel, and do not make the mistake of just walking to the Cathedral area. Take your time to explore the area around the hotel. Check-in went smooth and the staff were efficient. Secure luggage storage was provided upon check-out. Breakfast seemed rather expensive given the number of other options in the area. The room was clean and average size, but dated. The AC worked well, and even facing the street the street noise was low enough to leave the window open at night. The towels were a disappointment for a four star hotel, they were clearly worn out and have seen better days. The internet worked fine and the speed was reasonable. One thing to note is that, compared to many other areas of Europe, many restaurants only took cash.

Also more of our group arrived before we left to go to dinner. They got the same run around so it wasn't limited to me the solo American in the group. We simply could not use the third room - but were, of course, fully charged. That aside, everything else appeared to be a problem, too - Loading our equipment, parking, or any kind of service: my staff and our participants could not even buy a water, let alone a coffee at any time of the day. After a short introduction when we arrived, no service was available at all - and we arrived at 10am and left at 8pm :-( Just to avoid any misunderstanding: we had 50 guests - and none of them could get anything in the entire time of the event. Checking at the reception, we were asked to go and get take-away from a bakery in the area. Sorry - simply not good enough, we will never book this hotel again, let alone recommend holding any kind of event there.
