This is very much a very nice American hotel, typical of Marriott. Having stayed previously that…read moreweek at a local hotel (St Annæ), which we throughly enjoyed, (5* rating) it was quite the culture change. We booked both as wheelchair accessible and while the Marriott has textured bathroom tile floors unlike the St Annæ's slippery smooth tiles, the lower than ADA allowed toilet was a problem. Also only one of the four table lamps worked. The room's door closer and threshold made egress very difficult. Staff was very helpful. The breakfast was good but subpar to the local hotel's. The location is pretty along the harbor, next to BIG's swimming and sauna chalet, and they provide robes and towels for daring guests. However it is a bit isolated from the many nicer local shops and restaurants.

The staff is friendly and quick to help. There are several amenities available on-site. The bathtub is high with a slope on all sides, making it very slippery to get in and out (1/2 star off). There is no rubber bath mat to prevent slippage. Be careful. The location is great if you are looking to mostly stay on the canal and walk around the boardwalk. However, it is 15 minute walk to the nearest metro station and city center. There is a hotel restaurant, but no other restaurants nearby within 15 minute walk. This is fine for the summer, but inconvenient in sub-zero temperatures (1/2 star off). I stayed here in February, so found myself rather trapped unless I take a taxi everywhere.

The vibe is Balinese which threw me off-- Im used to a Scandi vibe everywhere Ive stayed in the city. The all organic delish breakfasts. The bedding and fabrics in the room are also organic! Its soo fun to stay here, theres a sauna with massage services, there are Vespas in random parts of the buildings and courtyard and staff wear Indonesian style uniforms. Inside the room, every detail was well planned and designed for practical functional use. I was sooo into the heated bathroom floor, I made a point to go without slippers. :) The small hotel bar/resto hosts serves superr delicious food and drink, ask for Franco. Staying at Axel G was a niiiiiceee surprise , i loved it so much, Im gonna be back. Be aware tho there is no air conditioning. Fans are provided in the rooms. End of Yelp.

The sauna was amazing and got very hot, and we really enjoyed getting to use the cold plunge in between sauna sessions. There's also a steam room, infrared sauna, and jacuzzi. I also tried the mud mask and coffee scrub at the spa. We got a spa tote that included robes and flip flops, so no need to pack your own. The breakfast buffet was delicious as well and had a variety of options. The room was nicely decorated, bed was comfy, heater worked well during the winter, and there were amenities that we weren't expecting (toothbrush, toothpaste tablet, etc). I'd definitely stay at a Guldsmeden hotel again!

The city is not an inexpensive place, and I was a bit surprised to find anywhere for the price they offer. That it isn't smack on top of the public trans is a pest, perhaps, but it's a short cab ride to drop your luggage if you don't feel like going the two block walk from the nearest bus stop, and the place is usually quiet, which I found frankly refreshing. The cost includes linen, if not a towel, a key card that grants access to your room and your personal locker which obviates the need of bringing a lock, and there's an add-on option for a cheap all-you-can-eat breakfast [I had a lot of muesli and hot tea]. The rooms and bathrooms both were spotless when I stayed, and the hot water was plentiful. They did -not- have a kitchen which troubled me a bit, but they'll allow you to bring food from outside, just not alcohol.

If carrying or wearing luggage, it's far too long a walk, I would suggest a bus. Once you've lightened your load it's possible to walk the city, but I'd still want to get back to the area before dark. The route to the hostel is through quiet side streets in a not-so-great area of town. Once you find the place, check in takes forever. When you get to your room, you're affronted with 3 bunk high beds and lockers that are noisy and faulty. I was unlucky enough to get a bed on the top, which was incredibly hard for me to get to because I'm not exactly tall. I was afraid to take cold medication because there was no guard rail of any kind, nor was getting down any easier than getting up. The bed felt rickety, the mattress was uncomfortable and the room was loud. The internet didn't work at all in the room. For that matter it didn't really work anywhere else very well either. And then there's the bathroom. It always stank, the floor was always covered in water. The showers had nowhere to put/hang your clothes or towel. The doors were always open, both the one leading into the hostel and the one leading outside, so there were often bugs. The toilets often didn't even work. Traveling expensive countries is nothing new to me. The price of this hostel was faaaaar too high for it's quality, regardless if it's Denmark.

It's September 2, 2024 and I'm packing shortly to return to New Jersey on this American Labor Day,…read morehaving stayed at this Palace since August 24. First real vacation in over seven or eight years. What an incredible choice I made staying here. It's hard to distinguish my deep affection and unbridled love for Danes and Denmark from just how much I loved staying here. Well, actually maybe not. The same qualities I was raised to appreciate and strive to emulate infused every aspect of my stay. Promptness, pristine manners, lively cheeriness and on and on. No request or inquiry was ever met by any Scandi staff member with anything less than cheery efficiency. The hotel is spotless yet still bears the regal fingerprints of time - over 100 years standing through Wars and Covid, downturns of all kinds but again the pride of Danes - not arrogant but joyous pride, has proven to be this fine grand lady of an edifice's key to thrive-al. I walked every hall of this enormous architectural marvel one evening. Discretely tucked away in two hallways were black and white photos of moments of history here - of royalty from Hollywood to London, of greatness. Even Judy Garland stayed here for what became her last concert of her life. I worked and slept and ate and healed here these nine days away. I occasionally imagined May 4, 1945 down there in the Rådhuspladsen from my balcony, imaging my mother crazy with glee in seas of freed Danes dancing and singing and crying and being fully alive again after the German Wargrip was loosened forever and her friend Uffe climbed up in the Tower to Jerry rig the electric and explode their five years' darkness in the forever light of freedom. It's that same esprit d'Danmark that thrums from the townhall square night and day with music and giddy tourists and sun worshipping locals and it's not bothersome or distracting or disturbing to hear but it's instead, life affirming and a celebration of community. Proud of life. The Danes that run this fine hotel celebrate life and are alive with every cheerful staff greeting, with every dazzling ergonomic modernism (Ike the double sets of thick balcony doors which SILENCE the bells incredibly nicely but when one wants to bathe in the bells' sonorous sounds, one simply throws open the doors) and with every swift little green cleaning of the rooms. I outright reject the accuracy or fairness of the few minor grumbles I saw in other reviews. Unfair, unwarranted and utter nonsense. My one challenge was having to find a workspace during my stay. It stands to reason the Dane's work-life balance would have only modest work desks in their rooms but as luck would have it, a truly spacious and quiet conference table is on the fourth floor in the hall complete with electrical outlets! As I pack, I'll miss the nine balmy days of August unbroken sun, my nights of infant-deep sleep on this comfy bed, the incredible breakfasts, the room of a shower, my beloved Rådhuspladsen outside my 100 year old balcony and the great, great joy It has been staying here. May the hotel stand for another 100 years and may I return throughout!

I'm really not sure how to rate this hotel. It may be spectacular based on Copenhagen standards but…read moreI will compare it to what I know from the United States. If the IKEA corporation and Mattel's Barbie created a room for her this would be it. Those of you that are used to going into IKEA in the US and see their little sample room designs those are the actual sizes of the rooms here. The room here is really designed for sleeping, going to the restroom, and taking a shower. They are extremely small and no place to hang clothes. Some would call this a modern Decour I would say it was something that was left over from the late 60s. The room was clean. The shower and toilet share one room. The water pressure for the shower was extremely low. Especially for the hot water side. Considering the price of the room which was booked six months in advance $355 US per night I am amazed. In the US this hotel no matter what city you were here even San Diego, San Francisco or downtown LA wouldn't go more than $100. Our room did include breakfast. Coffee is extra. Ordered an 8 ounce cup of coffee at six in the morning and it was $4.70 US or 30DK. That was from a coffee machine. It makes it look like Starbucks is giving away their coffee in the states. The breakfast buffet was very good. It was moved the rating from 3 stars to 4. It had a tremendous amount of meats, breads, coffee machines, fruits, and cheese. The service was also very good. Final review is the room is clean, appears safe, in line with the pricing of other things in the city but compared to the US yikes. The Decour looks just like an IKEA some may call modern.

Despite the stay being weeks away and rooms still available, customer service has been extremely unhelpful and nearly impossible to reach directly. Very disappointing experience before even arriving at the hotel.

Andrew mentions "an amazing gym" but the gym (at least when we were there) is NOT part of the hotel (it's attached to the hotel) and guests do not automatically have access to it. I don't know if this is a change between when he was there in 2024 and when we were there in September of this year. Like many of these fancy hotels, the lobby is very pretty. However, it's a weird hotel. They don't have a main desk. Instead, they "encourage" people to do self-check in, even to extent that they make their own room keys! They have a bunch of kiosks to do this. As an alternative, they have a people with tablets that can check you in (which we did). However, it's the room that really bothered me. Let's start with something important to all guests: toilet paper. Well, not the toilet paper itself, but the lack of even ONE backup roll. This is not something you want to discover. When I called down to the desk (or operator), I was told that I needed to pick it up myself. There were no tissues. There wasn't any folder or information about the hotel. Instead you can scan a QR code, but that only takes you to their very unhelpful website (which stated that their restaurant, Blue Elephant, was closed -- it was open!) There was no clock, no space for clothes. Our view was the top of the attached casino -- ugly as sin. In short, the room was pretty bad.

Truly the best hotel gym I have ever experienced - Breakfast - Fantastic and fresh selection of fruit, yoghurt, breads, hot dishes, cheeses, cold cuts, coffee. The not so good - Housekeeping was very hit and miss. On my last day housekeeping came at 6:00pm. Sometimes toiletries were restocked, sometimes not. - Location - meh, close'ish to downtown but there are better hotels actually downtown. The Bad - The lounge bar/restaurant - Food was very subpar. Service just downright sucked. Took over 1 hr for an app, 90 mins to get a main. And it was barely edible. Really frustrating after a long day of travel - Never asked if I wanted to authorize my card at check in which I am very used to. So when I tried to charge a drink to room I then had to go to reception (spent 10 mins in line) to ask to authorize my card so I could do room charges - Elevators cannot cope when there is a conference going on in the hotel. Be prepared to ride up to get down. - Overall customer service. Calling down to reception/guest services was pointless. Never answered. Other - The staff when you did interact seemed overwhelmed and under trained.
