You arrive in Oberlech by gondola, because it's car-free in the winter. Hotel Burgwald, along with the other central Oberlech hotels, is connected to the gondola by underground tunnel. It's the overall experience once you get here that makes Hotel Burgwald so unique--warm and genuine staff, world-class skiing at the doorstep, exquisite dining each evening, casual apres-ski atmosphere where families play boardgames by the fireplace or visit the spa. The custom is to book Saturday to Saturday with "half pension" which means that the lavish buffet breakfast and a nightly 4-5 course meal is included in your rate. Plus, during the 7 day stay, the Schulers hold a champagne reception, an afternoon strudel party and a "winter picnic" on the hotel's terrace featuring homemade Austrian specialties. There is also an indoor pool, a jacuzzi looking out onto the snow and an adults only "quiet" room where one can sit by the fire and relax. The hotel's rooms were recently renovated and feature soothing tones of cream and light grey. The beds are adorned with fluffy white comforters.
