I had always heard about Puerto Escondido (my parents visited in 1995) and so I was intrigued. I decided to rent a villa with an ocean view for my parents and I for a period of a week.. This place and its access to the somewhat 'private beach' was incredibly nice. Our experience and time here was above and beyond our expectations. The on site-maintenance staff and daily housekeeping did an excellent job; and the front desk, working as Concierge, came through, as I treated my mom to a massage. Maria arrived as scheduled and made my mom's time extra special! The on site restaurant, Espadin, give this place an extra touch. Incredible views with delicious food! Looking forward to coming here again, as Puerto Escondido has become my favorite destination in Mexico.

This place is the genuine article. Real authentic Mexico through and through. Puerto Escondido, unlike many Mexican beach towns, has forbade the construction of the sprawling resorts; the monstrosities that have ruined the Yucatán peninsula and Costa Rica. They have passed Federal preservation laws to protect its shoreline and quaint village roots. This was one of two hotels I stayed in and I will post a review of the other shortly. If you want to relax and immerse yourself in the México of 40 years ago, give this gem a try.

After returning to my room at 5 o'clock that evening the cold water was still off and had been off for several hours that day. Requested to speak to the manager he was not on property. Requested to speak to the manager the next morning, we were told he would give us a call back within five minutes. Never received a phone call from the manager and reference the problems that we had at his hotel. Every time we requested to speak to the manager who were told he was off property or unavailable in meetings

When we booked online, we were attracted by pictures of the Beach Club, which you access by a hotel truck shuttle. It is a nice setting, but it could be so much better. Our group had very bad service and the food/drink quality very bad (so unusual for Mexico). There were 2 very rude bar servers, who ignored us and our group, although they had no customers at the Bar. To add to the insult, the Pino Coladas were not delivered for 40 minutes AND were very very weak. Our friends experienced the same bad quality with their Mojitos. And they were very expensive drinks! The Beach Club is owned by the Hotel, and it appears they simply want to gouge everyone for maximum profit. For the rest of the week, we went to the Palapa Bar/Restaurants at Zicatella Beach and had fabulous drinks, food, service and a great time. We won't stay at this hotel again.

The rooms are dirty and need a lot of maintenance. Our room had a lot of mold: the bathroom felt and looked dirty. The WiFi is horrible. There is bad reception for mobile service At&T and T-mobile. There is no fridge or microwave. They even wanted to charge us to open our bottle of wine. They charge addition $225 pesos per kid per night to stay in a small room. They charge an additional $500 pesos to check in early if available. They did live us to another room after our complaint that was a little better with less mold. Would not stay here again. I am sure there are better options.

Assuming the beach is why you came to Puerto Escondido, this is maybe not a great place to stay. Now the positives: it's a paradise. The pool is lovely, there are mango trees that drop their bounty constantly, the wifi is great, there are lovely hammocks and plenty of seating. Beds are cozy. Staff is friendly. Rooftop bar is nice and prices are reasonable. I stayed here for one night before leaving for Huatulco the next day and it worked well for me because of the proximity to the bus station (about a 10 min walk). But again I doubt people are coming to PE for the bus station. A shame bc it's a lovely place to stay but I'd personally take a downgrade and stay closer to the beach.

I don't think I could do it justice…read more However, I will do my best ;) First of all, this place is called "hotel rainbow" in Spanish just FYI so you don't have to google it ;) It's a older hotel with incredible architecture. It's looks like a old Spanish mansion built in the side of the cliff facing the ocean & beach. It's very beautiful & has the most incredible jungle garden growing around it with all these concrete steps going up & down and around, like a Spanish fortress or castle. Of course I LOVE it! Arrrrr! lol Looking at it at night, you would think sometime in the night, a pirate ship is going to anchor off shore, and in the moonlight, Zorro & all his pirate kin are going to swim ashore & attack with swords a blazing! LOL I had rented a casita for a month in La Punta, and it was amazing! However, I wanted to stay a couple more weeks bc I was having so much fun & wanted to check this place out, be able to walk back to my hotel room from the bars. I heard that there was a room at the top that you had to climb 5 flights of stairs to get to but, had the most amazing views of the ocean. Well they were right doubly so. The stairs are a bitch & the views are the BOMB! LOL :)) The rooms are simple, nothing fancy or anything, however the beds were super comfy, the ac was cold, showers were giant, the balcony was huge with hammocks & the restaurant on site was very good. There is also a little coffee shop at the entrance to the hotel in a tiny building that is superb. There is no room service up to the top, up the five flights of stairs, you have to go to the restaurant & climb back up with morning breakfast/coffee if you want it in your room & your staying in the top. I made hubby go get the breakfast, especially when he was hung over lol. This hotel is perfectly located in party central on Zicatela beach. Its literally right in the middle of the beach in walking distance to EVERYTHING. It's where all the bars & nightclubs are located. So if your staying on the ground floor/lower floors the noise might be a problem. On the weekends it goes on & on into the wee morning hours. We didn't hear any of that bc we were on the very top ;) The problem was trying to climb 5 flights of stairs at 4am drunk off your ass! LOL :)) The pool is also YUGE & deep! The only deep pool I found in Puerto Escondido. It was amazing, we spent a lot of time in the pool. The first couple days the stairs kicked our ass after about the 5th day we slayed it like Zorro! Arrrr! If your up for climbing 5 flights in the heat daily the top is phenomenal. Even though I thought I was going to pass out a couple times, the views alone are worth it. I'm also pretty sure you can kick back & relax on the 3rd & 4th floors in this unique hotel. We got to know the maids a little while we were there & they let us look in a few vacant rooms, the views were also amazing from the 3rd & 4th floors. However, beware of the ground floor rooms if you are sensitive to noise. There was a very rowdy Piñata pool party that was going on while we were there with outdoor BBQ's & people drinking beer at the pool. The next day there were a couple chicks still asleep by the pool. There was also a LGBT convention/party that took over the last weekend we were there, it was fully booked! Craziest weekend EVER! LOL :)) I would def stay up top again on the 5th floor, we had a blast at Hotel Arcoiris, we totally dig it! Arrrr! Can't wait to return!

Although the shower didn't have hot water, we didn't complain because the cold water felt good. The price isn't bad but the free breakfast doesn't have much variety besides eggs, fruit and coffee.
