They sell everything from rucksacks, to trainers, to wicking clothing, to tennis rackets. Their product range is quite broad, and they hold a lot of the better known brand names. There are many stores in Hong Kong that sell similar products, but Rose Sports Goods specialise in a couple of different areas. First; they have a good clothing range for sports, second; they specialise in racquets and all things racquet sports related. They even have in-house racquet stringing service, which I suppose is the primary reason for reviewing them. The prices are reasonable, the staff are friendly and courteous, but perhaps not hugely knowledgeable. This store is a little bit cluttered, see you do have to have a good rummage around to find what you're looking for. However, all in all, if you know what you want, it's a fairly easy shopping experience.

I particularly like the location in Pacific Place, as it is large, carries a good stock, both on display and "out the back", and often has sales on, on top of their regular discounts. The store stocks all types of shoes, clothing and accessories for sports, primarily; running, fitness, basketball, racquet sports, swimming (which many other sport stores don't cater to), footy, and general outdoor (hiking, etc). It is mainly shoes and clothes, with some things like bags, swimming goggles, medical supports. They don't stock a great deal of kit like balls or tennis racquets, so if you need specific sports equipment, you may have to look elsewhere. The store is well laid out, by sport, department, and brand, so things are easy to find. Staff are on standby to help, and can be helpful to the point of pestering, but they do have to make a buck I suppose. When you buy, always ask for a discount. Nine out of ten, they will apply the 5-10% membership discount, regardless of whether or not you are a member. This store in particular, impresses me with their range of swimming gear. As well as swimwear, they have loads of goggles, including prescription lenses, waterproof mp3 players, and floats and accessories. The stock is large compared to other stores. They also have a dedicated kids department, and a good Columbia concession with loads of wicking clothing.

I had been looking around Wan Chai for some of those but the best deals I could get were still not that great value for money (okay design and too pricey for their quality). Wan Chai has great stores for branded trainers; prices are half the ones at Giga Sports, but I suspect they're also from previous collections. However today I was after some tights and sports bras. I was impressed by the size of the store: they have a few sections by brand and sport. There's a specific one on fitness which I went to check out. Unfortunately they only had a couple of tights from Adidas, but they were around 250HKD, which is much cheaper than other stores. Their range of bras is great though, and they have the same price (so it's pretty much average). There were some more clothes on the running section and even the tennis one, but for the size of the store it didn't seem much. They're not a specialized store. Instead they have multiple sections with a few items, including swimming and golf, and a corner devoted to hiking products. There is way too much staff in this place though, but nobody approached me to help, which was fine as I could find what I was after quite easily. I picked up a brochure I saw at the fitness section and I'm browsing through it, got hooked on their Adidas tights and will come back for them!

I was specifically looking for a headlamp for my husbands night hiking trip. The headlamps range generally from 300$HKD to 800$HKD. They do have one that is $1200. It all depends on your specifics. Anyway, they have a whole wall of them. They also have various choices for backpacks, hiking sticks, sneaker shoes, sleeping bags, and probably anything else you could need for your camping or hiking trip. The guy at the register said that it's usually used for biking and only good for seeing whats directly in front of you. So, that's not what I was looking for. They are about $400HKD. I didn't really look around so I can't tell you anything else specific. If you are looking for sporting apparel, they do have lots of that here. The store is located probably 100 meters to the left of the Pizza shop.

Convenient location, there's plenty of drink and food places nearby if you're needing a little pick-me-up from shopping. Down the street was the infamous ladies' market as well.

I went to this place at the recommendation of a friend. I was looking for hiking and climbing shoes…read morefor myself as well as energy bars as an errand. The shop is located on the second floor of a commercial building and it's quite big. I first had a look at the energy bars and gels. They do carry quite a few of those, mainly USA and Swiss brands, mainstream but good quality. And then went onto the corner where they seemed to have what I was after: they did have some climbing shoes of the kind I wanted (rounded tip, for bouldering) but they didn't have the hiking ones - I was trying to find Vibram5Fingers. They only have Vivobarefoot. By the way I later found them in Escapade Sports. What I realized when I was there is that this place is great for hiking and mountaineering equipment. They carry brands like Berghaus and Montane and the clothes range is great: coats, jackets, vests, sleeping bags, backpacks, pants, thermal clothing to wear underneath and some accessories like gloves and torches. Basically everything you need for outdoors activity. And not only for men and women, they also have children's clothing. It's a specialist store and most of the clients already knew what they wanted, except me, who needed some advice on the climbing shoes...they were expensive and ended up not getting them, but so far, this is one of the few places where I have seen them, so I may have to come back.

We are talking serious business here…read more Ain't no your usual sport shoes or T-shirts "for fashion" here. And no one comes here just for "window shopping". What you can see if a lot of sport enthusiasts here to get the right gears, often to help boosting their performance. I wasn't one of those enthusiasts until I decided to join my first triathlon (albeit a short one). Unlike running or swimming, where you can just enter a race with your usual running/swimming gear, doing a triathlon requires quite some unique equipment. And that was my first time visiting Escapade. It was eye opening to see how many different things you can buy to make your race easier, even for amateurs. I bought a beginner grade tri-suit for just above HKD$1,000. Why do I need one, anyway? For instance, no one, not even the kids, will change suits between different legs, so a suit that fits for swimming, cycling, and running is essential. And a tri-suit provides a comfortable wear for swimming, yet drying off fairly quickly after you leave the water. It also has a "pad" thick enough to absorb shocks between your crotch and your bicycle seat, but not as bulky as a cycling shorts' pad, so that you feel comfortable to run too. Ever since then I'm really interested in the sport gears. Even for less popular sports in Hong Kong like hockey or rugby, you can still easily find whatever suits you. I recently bought a backpack that is designed for trail walking/running, with a water bag included. Relatively lightweight, fairly packed, yet comes with a lot of functions and spacious sections. This is the reason that sets the shop apart others. Like the German architectural principle, "form follows function", this shop provides everything under the idea of "fashion follows function".

Escapade Sports have been around for quite a while. What I like about them, is that they are not a…read moretypical sports shop like Nike, Marathon or those branded ones. Escapade Sports is an actual sports shop where fashion is not the number one key element. Their number one key element is the practicality of the sporting variety. They are a very serious sports shop, but at the same time, they do have a few fun things. They specialise in cricket, rugby, triathlons, trail running and a few other sports. For those who are looking for specific equipment, you have found your haven. They have everything, including nutrition gels, specific trail running shoes, grass hockey equipment and everything in between. The shop in Causeway Bay is bigger than the one in Central, more space, allowing more stock there as well. The only thing is, Escapade Sports in Causeway Bay is a destination shop, you will only go there if you know what you are looking for, it's not one of those shops where you just drop in, just to browse. The staff there are very friendly and knowledgable, so it's cool to go in and ask for advice.

But I'm a big fan of sports apparel and shoes, especially the colorful ones from Nike or Adidas. In Wan Chai there are a ton of sports shops to choose from, most of them carrying a big selection of sport wear at good prices. All of them have big discounts and you can normally get a good deal anywhere. But Footwear Supermarket is my preferred one. They have Reebok and Puma for running shoes mainly, but they also have some Columbia and Converse products and pretty much everything is reduced. For what I was looking for, they didn't really have 'the ones', but I still had a look because the staff didn't seem very preoccupied with me browsing around, so I kept going. I found it odd that on one of the corners they have 'normal' shoes, but I ignored those because they were, well, a little ugly, and just didn't fit in there. They also had some okay clothes. If you are looking for a fancy pair of trainers, it's probably not the place, they all look very functional, and cheap (some of the discounts went up to 50%). Because I already have what I need and I'm more looking for 'pretty' shoes, I decided to go next door, but if you need good shoes, don't care that much about the design and are not willing to spend much, it's worth checking them out. Also, for trekking shoes they're pretty good too.
