Finally made it here and I'm sure glad I did. I've had Trinidadian food in Brooklyn outside of Prospect Park before and this definitely stacks up in quality. The other place I went to had more of a selection, but obviously they're doing a bigger business, so I wasn't disappointed when I entered Hot on D Spot less than an hour before their closing and left with A HUGE and hefty bag of roti for two, for under $20. I had the goat (solid 5 stars) and my tried my boyfriend's beef roti (4 stars, some could say it was slightly on the dry side.) The beef was huge and good, but goat stole the show. The chickpeas and filler mixture is also OUT of this world and their hot sauce is super spicy and delicious. Only other thing to note is that some of the meats have a ton of bones. I already knew this going in and it definitely wasn't a problem for me, just popped one in my mouth while I assembled my next bite, then discarded the bone. Problem solved. Meal, demolished. I'll be back soon on a weekend to try the duck which is when the super nice owner told us they're more likely to have it. By the way, to the yelper who assumed the owner was super nice to her because she was wearing heels, I must have looked stunning in my sweatpants because he was extremely helpful and nice to me too. This is a great place with authentic Trinidadian eats that I always come to when I'm staying at my home in Levittown, Pennsylvania. It isn't nearly as good as places you'll find in Queens, NYC, like Singh's Roti Shop, but it is great for the area. The selection isn't very big at all, which is also a downside, but what they do offer, they do very well with, and the service is very good. I do wish they had things like fried rice, chow mein, barfi, etc. They mostly have doubles and roti with various meats and veggie selections here. They are always very friendly and welcoming. I've brought a lot of business here as I've introduced a lot of family and friends to the place, who also live in the New Jersey/Pennsylvania area not too far from Trenton/Hamilton. I will continue to go here to satisfy my cravings for home cooking. I will also continue to recommend this place to people I know. read more

I just recently moved into the area and decided to try out this place since it was kind of close to my home. Besides that, I am a huge foodie. I believe one of the best ways to experience a culture is by the food. Therefore, I like to try food from a different kinds of culture, however, I've never eaten Trinidadian food before.My wife and I decided to give this spot a try and boy were we pleasantly impressed. It is a family run and operated business. Everyone is so genuinely nice. They took the time to greet us, get to know us, explain the food and culture to us and gave wonderful recommendations. We tried a Vegetarian Roti stuffed with potato and spinach which so delicious and flavorful. It's a huge portion for small price. In fact, if you ask me, the food should be more expensive considering the quality ingredients used. We also ordered a potato pie which reminds me of a potato pancake with potato filling. It has a perfect creamy middle texture with a crispy, yet soft shell. It was so good! We also got stewed chicken with rice. It had a great flavor! Tasted like a cross between Spanish and Jamaican. I got to meet the owner, Annie. She was sweet as pie! Speaking of desert, I had this bread pudding type of cake (sorry I forgot the name of it) which was made with cassava, pumpkin and other things- it was super good. The food was so good that I literally went back the next day for some more! Oh and if you aren't lactose intolerant and like peanuts or peanut butter you have to try their homemade peanut punch. It is so good! In essence, if you haven't tried this place out yet do yourself a favor and go at least once. The great food, big portions, low price and friendly staff will keep you going back for more. You won't be disappointed. read more

Let me start by saying the portions here are huge! I had the shrimp double, shrimp roti, potato and channa roti and the house made ginger drink. Let's start with the shrimp double. It was delicious. The shrimp was cooked to perfection and the house sauces she put on the double were a great addition to the flavor of the curry shrimp. This is not for the dainty eater but if you're willing to dig in and get a lil messy this is a must try! Lol The Roti was really good. Annie made mine fresh, so it took a few minutes. Well worth the wait. I could eat the Roti wrap all by itself. The potatoes in the dishes are cut long, kinda wish they were cut in bite size pieces and next time I'll probably pass on the ginger drink. I'm use to African ginger drinks which have a bit more of a kick to them. I will DEFINITELY be coming back to this place whenever I'm in the area though. Wow! I don't know what took me so long to get here. This is one terrific Spot. We had the boneless chicken roti, spinach and pumpkin roti, fried plantains, a double filled with chickpeas. Everything was delicious-- One of the best meals I've had in ages. And that's exactly what took me so long to get here: fear of disappointment. So many places just don't measure up. Have been here many times and food was good. Last week had large order doubles/chicken, potato Rotis etc .requested bara/ Chana separate and some wrapped. This is place is just amazing. Coming from Long Island, we are used to Trini food in Queens, and didn't quite expect anything good in NJ. What a surprise this one is!!! I only had one dish, so I am limited in what I can review. The staff was friendly and courteous. Since it was my first time, they made suggestions. Roti is their specialty, so I got the shrimp. They made it burrito style for me. Not sure how it is served otherwise. It was huge and easily is 2 meals worth. Many shrimp and a nice level of spice. The roti itself was tasty. I might have preferred it 'deconstructed' to better sample the flavors. I think if I sampled more I could easily bump the stars up. I'd go back for sure. read more

Wow, just had this place for dinner and I'm still amazed by how good that meal was. Was looking for another gluten-free option in Trenton so I grabbed the pumpkin and spinach curries with a side of chickpeas. Everything was just so super flavorful, with an intriguing array of spices that was unlike anything I'd ever had. The pumpkin wasn't overly sweet but super flavorful and creamy, the spinach was great too and the chickpeas were just so well seasoned. I would rank this up there with any Indian, Pakistani, or Afghani food I've had. Period. Absolutely can't wait to go again. read more

I was in town for biz and found this place on line. Good rating and interesting menu so I decided to give it a try. So glad I did!! The food was amazing, and service was fantastic. The owners bent over backwards to help me and made an extra double for me to try. I was so impressed that I placed a to-go order to take back for lunch the next day on my flight home. I had the boneless chicken roti, pumpkin double and chick pea double. All three were incredibly delicious!!! Good portion and value too. They gave me a sample of the oxtail stew when I expressed interest in it, but I wasn't a fan of the minimal meat around a large bone. I tried 2 of their desserts, the tambran balls were okay (sweet with big seeds), and cassava pone looks like pumpkin pie but isn't as sweet - still very good! They let me sample some kurma sticks which were good but not great. Inside the restaurant, decor, furniture, and plates, flatware etc is modest, but that's okay, it's all about the amazing food!!! I am Trinidadian and this place is better than any Trinidadian roti shop I have dined in anywhere in NYC or NJ. Their food taste home cooked and NOT mass produced. Their parathas are flaky and tasty - even better too is that my son who is allergic to dairy can have their buss up shut when I am lazy to make it at home. Their dhalpourie roti is full of dhal and soft and well made. I have had roti in Queens on Liberty Ave and Hot on D Spot is by far better than any roti I have had in Queens. They take their time to prepare the food so be prepared to wait as they are very busy and it takes some time. They are very friendly and eve "to go" orders you will also have to wait as its made fresh for you. Only critique I have since its been consistent since I have been going there since they opened and changed owners, is the amount of channa they put into the doubles is quite scanty :) but the food is so good and so worth it - their lack of enough channa is not enough to affect my fabulous review of them. Still my number one place for my home cooked Trini food and I highly recommend them. The best thing is - they are now open on Sundays! Why this wasn't the case before - not sure, as Sundays are a prime day for food as lots of people are home then. Craving a Trini Sunday lunch? my family is from there and people this food was really delicious, authentic food that i have not had in a long time. have the doubles, its vegetarian you cannot have just one, and you will be back for more!!! try the roti and curry chicken, the pumpkin is relish with the roti too. all the food is fantastic and if you want to really have the trini experience wash it down with a peardrax drink in the fridge there, ice cold. your gonna love it and be back for more!!!!! read more
