The felt desk staff was super friendly both when I checked in and out, the room was clean, super comfy bed and overall loved my stay. The area this hotel is in is a bit sketchy but that's no fault of the hotel, just be aware when walking around especially at night.

They robbed me of one night and then sent the cops down to evict me because I had showed my ID but I had my ID stolen at the local plaid. I had provided a local ID via alternative means, including my power bill from Orlando... And a screenshot of a previous ID with the same license number and verified identification. Portland is not like Washington and does not require a scan for every single check-in. They misrepresented themselves and absolutely put me out on the street when I needed housing. This is why they are getting one star from me. I very rarely log into this account, but I am a very important person, and I am also very influential through alts on social media. This is not a reflection on the person who booked the reservation. It is a reflection on the management of the society and I do not retract a single thing.

They have everything you may need - soap in the shower (bring towels), free water, free social events (cider and wine tastings, city tours, live music), a cafe with food and drinks, and several buildings with rooms. I really appreciated that my 4-bed, all-female room only had me and one other person in it throughout my 4-night stay. I appreciated they don't try to cram the rooms full. I really liked that the bathrooms are private. Each floor has 4 private bathrooms, each with a shower. Each bad has its own bed lamp, charging station, and personal fan. There aren't any bed curtains, though. Staff was friendly and helpful. Location is great and only a 10-20 minute walk into the city. Street parking is available for less than $5 a day. Would choose to come back and stay here again!

Baked goods and coffee available all day, fridge space for your leftovers and booze, plus bonus for long stays: you can use the washer and dryer! Cozy nooks for eating, front porch with swing, comfy couch in the parlor. Friendly staff, and friendly fellow guests, & comfy rooms -tho we were in a basement room, not the best view from there. The owner was very responsive and if you are looking for a safe place just to sleep while visiting, this is the place. There are 4 rooms available and I took the single bed room. Suited my needs perfectly! I took the metlink from the airport and had no issues! It's also close to bus stops and other rails. I took it all over the city! There are 4 rooms for rent and you share 2.5 bathrooms. I never had any issues using the bathrooms when I needed! Everything was kept clean! There is also a small kitchen area where there are items available. I however did not eat anything since I was eating my way around town! Soo many options and not enough stomach space . There are also lots of food places around the corner as well as a Trader Joe's. Works perfectly! Definitely a gem.

Having the two balconies just made the view spectacular! It's so cool to watch Portland, at that location. And that's part of the point, the location. The hotel is fun and very cool. The soaking pool is quite a surprise! We got great customer service during check-in and out. I did experience a hit and run accident with my car parked on grand street. The last time I came I arrived by train so I didn't really pay attention to the parking situation. The parking is street parking for $4.5 an hour unless you find a nearby garage. The lot that is close to them goes for $15 an hour. It's worth it to look around a little for cheaper parking.

On my first night, I was in a single queen room with a shared bathroom, and that was ok, except for the fact that someone wandered in who was not staying at KEX and tucked into a couch located outside of my room in the hallway for the night. The staff was super helpful and moved me the next night to a room with its own bathroom, but the overall experience that night was a drag. Would I stay at KEX Portland in the future? yes! Would I recommend others to KEX Portland? yes! Oh, and one more thing...there is a Crema out the door and across the street to the left, where you can grab something for breakfast.

Tons of additional resources available and staff are also more than happy to print maps and stuff like that. Dorms are plenty spacious and lockers are available for everyone. Washrooms could use an upgrade to stall style ones to accommodate more people....get the line moving kinda thing. But all in all, good.

It's an older building so if you are looking for a super modern looking hostel this may not tickle your fancy, but it was very comfortable and a great value for the price. It was fairly quiet and bathrooms are private which is great. Wi-Fi worked and The check in and check out we're easy. No complaints and I would stay there again.
