You have to get towels at the front desk for both the pool and the beach, which seems a bit odd, but not too bad if you remember ahead of time. The beach just below the hotel is too small, but down the path 200m is a larger beach that is sufficient with great views. I would highly recommend eating at Gastromar. They share the same kitchen as Michelin-rated El Brancs. The Turbot, cocktails, and dessert were excellent here.

There was no real need to leave this hotel. You can find all the relaxing you need here and it had hands down the most beautiful little cove beach and views that we saw along the coast! Felt like a 60s movie star swansong, with its cascading balconies, views, slow dining in the restaurants, and fun throwback cocktails in whimsical glassware. The breakfast was wonderful, and for lunch and dinners we ate at all three restaurants. The fare at all 3 is similar, but gets elevated in old fashioned elegance as you rose up each level. They all served seafood and we had an amazing white wine from the local vinyard! We did expect to see more "lunchy" items like fries, calamari, panini/pizzette at the beach level pirate dock bar -like more of a beach shack - but they are literally prepping out of a cool cave in the wall so no fryer is a minor thing, and it was a cheerful seaside vantage for a long lunch or drinks. Do reserve dinner upstairs as the restaurants can fill up. Last, shout-out to the welcoming help of the team at the front when you arrive! This place is a unique and romantic dream!

The hotel is on the edge of town perched on a hill. Girona is a great walking city and this location did not take advantage of that as the city center was a very long and steep walk away. However, taxis are inexpensive so getting around was not a problem, at all. Our room was very Euro, clean, spartan, and highly functional. The bathroom was stocked with the usual toiletries and a big bonus of a bidet. (we -wimps- did not use the bidet) As a Marriott Gold Member, the minibar contents were FREE, including beer! We did not use the restaurant, but the Catalan breakfast spread was very good. Lots of porky goodness in the form of local ham and a multitude of sausages. An extensive array of cheeses from soft to hard and stinky to mild. Lots of pastries and fruit, too. It was a two plate affair. My wife used the workout room and she said while it was small, it was clean and new. The front desk staff was friendly and attentive to our requests. They had to help translate for taxi driver for the early Monday morning pick up. Our bar waiter on Friday night was hard to track down for each round, but was friendly when he was serving. AC was very inexpensive. A very nice place to stay, but I will probably want to try another hotel in the city center next time. Paying a little bit more for a central location will be offset by not having to use taxis for every move.

I can easily forgive that the hotel needs a fair bit of cosmetic maintenance (see pictures of a few…read moreitems) but the fact it felt physically unsafe wasn't acceptable. The hotel uses a motion detector system to turn on hallway lights. Unfortunately, it's not configured well. The dark picture below is my first two steps into the hallway (from either direction). The picture of the staircase was lightened automatically by my iPhone. And while it's likely the city rather than the hotel that created the problem, there is a curb that is invisible to those of us with depth perception struggled (see grey stone picture). The two parts are a step of three inches. Tape (yellow or reflective) would really help. The breakfast was "meh", they use only half the room (making it feel crowded), and the towels they insist on leaving take up the entire area by the sink. The person who was the Front Desk manager said that they were aware. (I'd asked to speak to the hotel manager but he refused to check.) I'd said I felt the problems deserved a one-star review. He told me I was wrong! No sense he cared at all (perhaps because I asked to speak in English and subtlety is English is tough.) He did have a safety light turned on in my hallway (which did help though it buzzed all the time). So three stars but I doubt I'd return.

The place is in the middle of a rural part of Catalonia, and there isn't much going on- making it quite unassuming. The wine selection is completely locally made and held in a separate cellar attached which Albert will help you with. All bottles totally affordable- recommend trying "Mas Polit", we got a second bottle to go! After that, go wild. The menu is phenomenal. It's simple and humble but the food it stellar. Truly special, the flavors will impress and satisfy anyone from the food conservative to any foodie. The cannelloni are house made rich and delicate, onion cake is sweet, savory and unctuous, and the duck is ridiculous. We tried maybe 8 or 9 items between the two nights and everything was tremendous. I could keep going, but I think I've made the point. Please make an effort to get out to this area of Catalonia- it isn't far from Barcelona. The area totally deserves your attention and time and specifically this restaurant is worth the day trip.

I'm not sure why anyone would expect any server to speak several languages. I am traveling with my small dog, barely speak any Spanish, let alone Castilian Spanish, and I ordered food just fine and received excellent service! I highly recommend El Pati!!!

After reading a comment from 2009 in another forum, the service even seems to have decreased in performance I will for sure visit this lovely place a fourth time, but will watch closely, if the critics may be right. But on a nice summer evening there seems to be no better place for a nice dinner in Catalunya
