For what it is I really enjoyed my time here. Noone was in sight we arrived and the store was…read morelocked. A nice man must have saw us and met us on his golf cart. He opened the store for us and he filled us in on the history of the place and showed us how the mill worked. It was very interesting to us. We bought the grits and cornmeal that had been freshly done the day before. The restroom was locked when I went (has number pad for the campers ) So we had to ask for it to b unlocked. The restroom was very nice . They have a covered bridge and peaceful trails. The trails unfortunately are not marked very well at all. We were afraid we would get lost so we didn't stay in the woods much. They have a camp ground for RVS and plenty of space . You can bring a tent :) Nice, little side trip w/ a bit of history.

I thought to myself that sounds kind of cool and kept driving. A couple miles down the road I crossed paths with yet another sign for Kymulga, to which I kept driving. But then it started weighing on my mind and I decided to GPS it to see how far away it was. 5 miles...I'm early for my meeting, let's give this a try. Arriving at the park they have very reasonable rates ($3.00) and the place (considering it is the dead of winter) is really quite pretty. Only explored for a few minutes, since I needed to get back on the road, but they have disk golf and hiking along with fishing (license is required). Several picnic benches located around the covered bridge. Would make for a fun spot to go do additional exploring. Will definitely plan a day trip here....plus based on the other Yelp reviews there seems to be some good BBQ in the area.

I visited Oak Mountain State Park as part of the Mammoth March Hike, fully aware it was going to be…read morea major undertaking--but it still managed to shock me. The steep climbs up and down the mountain were incredibly challenging. At one point, I even slipped and slid down part of the trail but thankfully managed to do so gracefully without hurting myself. Being from Florida, I was definitely not accustomed to the elevation gain I was about to face. There were plenty of moments throughout the hike where I questioned why I signed up for this challenge, but pushing through and ultimately finishing made it all worth it. Having the bragging rights to say I conquered this terrain feels incredibly rewarding. That day, I didn't notice much floral life, and most of the critters seemed to be hiding--likely due to the large number of people participating in the hike. That said, I was still lucky enough to spot a rattlesnake and a black racer, which made the experience even more memorable. There were a few noteworthy areas worth stopping for, including an open area near a dam‑like structure and several peaceful river and creek spots along the route. While the park is absolutely massive and I know there was so much left unexplored, the 23 miles I trekked over 9 hours was more than enough for one day. If I find myself back in the area, I might just dare to return and explore some of the parts of the park I didn't get to see. Truly a beautiful park and an incredible asset for those who live nearby and get to enjoy it regularly.

I personally love going for a hike and bringing my pup along. Plus, there's so many great spots to stop and enjoy a picnic My husband and I plan to come and visit the golf course soon. As well as pack our bows to practice at the archery course.

The hotel is still under construction. We had a pull through full hookup site. Packed gravel and dirt site that was partially separated by trees and plants. Joined to Cheaha Falls and Pulpit Rock. DO NOT STAY IN THE CABINS!!…read more Last night my wife and I swept the walls and floors of lady beetles flushing them down the toilet, since they are invasive. Around two we got to sleep. A few times we got woke up by a bite of two but most were gone or so we thought. We woke up to find the windows covered with them. We called again to ask for help and they sent down a housekeeper. After talking to a few employees we found out this has been an ongoing problem and that many people have cut their stay short. As I understand from what was said to me the management here is fully aware and wants to ignore the problem hoping it goes away instead of addressing it. This is a bad look for Alabama. If I travelled all the way here to stay in these lovely cabins and paid what we paid only to be swarmed by Asian Lady Beetles I would not recommend this beautiful park to anyone. It's not the bugs that give this a two. It's the attitude and lack of action by the management that got them that. The only reason the got a two is the cabin and park are beautiful.

What a great place for outdoor activities!…read more Kind of on the edge or Rainbow City, this place has got space for all sorts of sports stuff!! When you first pull in, to the right, there are several soccer fields, to the left a huge parking area. As you go a little further, there are some really nice little league fields - great place to watch a game! As you drive past these fields and get to the back, they have a walking/biking path that circles around a pond and a golf frisbee course (not an easy one either!). The path, if you loop around and take all of the routes comes out about 4 miles (if you add some on the far back side). Really nice what they have done out there. You can kind of be in the thick of things, or you can totally do your own thing with minimal interactions with others that are out there. Really cool space, you can even stop here and do some star gazing on a nice clear night ... if you're so inclined.

Rainbow City has really put a lot into making a nice place for residents to get some exercise…read more Whether walking, running, biking, kids on scooters, you and your friends and family will find a paved, shady trail in a nice woodland setting. Much of the underbrush is cleared out and there is a pond with some pavilions around it. However, especially around back and edges there is more bushes and brush, and you will probably see squirrels, bunnies and unfortunately maybe a snake. A nice disc golf course winds around and throughout as well. In daylight hours I always feel safe here. You will meet plenty of others on the path, but not so many it feels congested. You can choose the main loop or outer loop, and it veers off onto the back side which has a sidewalk for more distance and variety. Total distance: If you go right from the gate, pass the pond, go to the back and turn off to the right and go through the extended back (along a dirt road), over the bridge and right up the sidewalk, cross the road to the continuing sidewalk, go all the way up and around the elementary school, come back and go around the back of the middle school, back to the sidewalk, back to the path by the dirt road. This time go right and go behind the ball practice things, that takes you back up to the front. Now turn left and go on the back side of the main loop and follow back to the gate ... whew! that's 4 miles.
