The cashier happily exchanged the multiple Pound coins from the machine into notes for us. We used to criticise British 'Pokie' machines for being tricky and complicated but this was a lovely surprise. There are the usual 10p and 2p push down machines in this arcade but we didn't touch them this time. Staff could have smiled a bit more.

As technology at home moved on, the arcades kept up and this place would have the latest sit down simulators, gun games and improving traditional games like virtua fighter. At one point it even had a mini bowling alley which made for a good laugh to start your night out. Sadly, eventually technology has made the arcade obsolete. Now the latest consoles will do all you can experience in the arcade better and seeing as these simulators are very expensive and even the traditional cabs aren't cheap either, this place has turned into a fruit machine emporium. They still have a few games like house of the dead (with guns) and some driving simulators, but now you mostly hear money from the fruities rather than cries of 'Sho Ryu Ken'.

I'm not sure why, but this place draws me in whenever I visit Brighton. I situated across from the…read morelocal Wetherspoons, its actually pretty low key from outside. But it does go back into the building for a long way, and there are a ton of ways to waste hours of time on cold rainy days if you've got a fistful of coins. They don't change the games as regularly as other arcades, but the ones they do have tend to be pretty good nontheless.

I've wasted many hours (and quite a bit of money) in these places, and no matter how old you are it's always fun. This arcade's got everything apart from the dance machines, although this is probably for the best as despite my confidence, I nearly always trip out on the first round. Alongside the penny slot machines are fruit machines, car and shooting games, and the dreaded claw games that greedily steal your money without so much as a whif of a prize. It's all good fun though, and I can't think of a better reason to change a pound coin for 2p's.

The Super Booster Ride is Brighton Pier's most death-defying ride…read more It takes punters 130 feet into the air then without warning, drops them at accelerating speed. I'm not really a stats girl but the phrase 0-60 in 2.5 seconds should give you an idea just how fast it goes. To crank up the tension, the Super Booster is a stand-up, floor-less ride that means your legs dangle under you whilst your ass is perched on a seat resembling a bike saddle. Of course, the force of gravity means you can't move as you're plummeting down towards the sea then vigorously swinging over it but I'm sure it's entirely possible to feel your stomach doing somersaults. Have I been on the ride personally? Do I look like a masochist to you?! I've seen the mixture of ecstacy and horror on hundreds of riders faces as they've clamboured off with shaking legs and that was more than enough! * The only downside to Super Booster and other rides on Brighton Pier is the price-tag. This ride takes 5 tokens so works out around £8 a ride. If you buy a book of 30 tokens for £20 however, it works out slightly cheaper.

Whilst it's not as fast as the log flumes at Alton Towers and Blackpool Leisure Beach, Wild River is a pretty good flume. It has two drops and you get an enviable view of Brighton sea-front before being plunged down the drop and through a shower of freezing cold water. The person sat at the front not only gets squashed by who-ever's lined up behind them but they always seem to get drenched the most too. You might want to consider this before jumping in the boat!

Climb Twist Turn…read moreDrop Scream & Repeat Located on the end of Brighton Pier, Crazy Mouse is the biggest and bumpiest ride of the whole fun-fair. From the stability of the pier it doesn't look too high up but when you're on the track, the drop down to the sea below is pretty petrifying. The fact there's no sides to the ride either makes the jerky twists, turns and spins of the Crazy Mouse all the more exhilerating. I defy you to go on it and not worry that you're going to be plunged into the sea at any given moment!

The layout of this arcade is such that there is a partition immediately in front of the door (I don't doubt that this is deliberate !) I also never really trust an establishment where there is someone standing on the door during the day. Now, I'm not talking about burly doormen here - I'm talking about the girls/boys who work in there. What good they would be in the event of trouble I do not know. I'd walked past here thousands of times before finally getting the courage one day (when there was no-one on the door !) to put my head in and have a look. I didn't get any further ! All that is behind the partition is a dark dingy room with a splattering of fruit machines. There were just a handful of people playing on them. There was a counter for changing money. And that was it ! All my illusions of a Las Vegas style arcade being behind there were well and truly shattered ! Don't go there !
