This is Laguna Gloria, and it features sculptures all outdoors. We ended up paying since we were already there. BUT Laguna Gloria is FREE on Thursdays. Other days is $10 pp and if you didn't pay in advance online, they can take payment at the gift shop. Though, I'm not sure how they enforce it because it looks like you can just pass by the gift shop and enter the park. As a former art student, I just wasn't that impressed or intrigued by the art. You have to walk a ways away to visit the next sculpture. They provide a map at the gift shop, but since I'm not good at geographic directions, I just allowed my husband to plan the walking route for us. We got to see all the sculptures (there aren't a lot...15?) In total, we were probably there for less than an hour. I didn't understand some sculptures. I saw a lonely, abandoned light pole covered with spiderwebs and joked to my husband, "look at this artwork!" It turns out, it was actually art because there's a sign next to it introducing the art piece and everything. Awkward. Anyway...appreciated walking around the grounds. My favorite is the crying Miffy fountain, which is one of the first things you see when you enter the grounds. Street parking only (unless you are an art student or staff there).

Couldn't figure out what times they're open or how to make a reservation and whenever we would call nobody would answer. We went inside one day and they were closed and we were able to make a reservation in a few days. Told to call if we're unable to show up. On the event day we were running behind and we tried to call to reschedule (unable to do it online from the reservation) because we didn't want to use up the slot if someone else could. Thankfully we were able to make it in and WOW it was stunning inside. They gave us cute little safari hats to explore inside as well. The birds were absolutely beautiful and i love that the more you looked the more you would find, hidden little secrets everywhere. Took off one star because of the difficulty with how to make a reservation or even call to cancel/reschedule. Would recommend making this an entire online process in the future if possible. There's an inside and outside. The cafe was a bit expensive but I appreciated it being there. There's even an area inside that would be ideal if you WFH. If you are looking for a gift shop, they have that too. The upstairs section was unavailable during my visit. This place will definitely keep you entertained for about an hour. It's a great spot to add to your Austin bucket list.

Personally, I think I'd prefer to pay ($10 per adult, 4 and under are free) and have it be a little less crowded. The building is small, the hallways narrow, the elevator slow. I wasn't sure what to expect but I'd advise you to keep your expectations low. The museum is a bit dated, the building is old, and some of the exhibits felt antiquated. There is a certain charm to that. Plus, you can see everything in one short visit. They did make it ADA accessible -- there's a separate entrance for wheelchairs and strollers. There's a wheelchair ramp available for the inaccessible areas (like the paleontology exhibit). For strollers, I'd recommend just leaving it upstairs and holding your kid. The exhibits are small so you won't be there for long. Gift shop had a nice selection of cute gifts/souvenirs. Easy parking in the San Jacinto garage next door. Cost us $6 or something like that. While the woman's restroom had a diaper changing station, I don't think the men's did. I noticed a dad going in to change his son's diaper (he verbally noted it to the mom) and walked right back out. If they want to be accommodating to families, this might be an upgrade worth making. FYI: they're card only, no cash.

Get stuck in traffic, rinse and repeat. Don't be like me! Go TODAY! Admission is always free and it's well worth your time. They do a great job mixing authentic artifacts with recreations and models. Even if you're not that into history, it's pretty cool to see. Great for kids and adults alike, and there are some interactive things too. If you can only pick one day to go, visit on one of their Living History weekends where they have a live reenactment of one of the wars with real tanks firing blank rounds. It's actually VERY cool, no matter how you feel about war itself. Wear earplugs because it can get loud!
