I heard about this 5 or 6 months ago but never was able to make it out because of weather or other…read moreplans, but finally made it yesterday for the monthly viewing open to the public. They have 1 fee viewing night open to the public a month so be sure to check out the website in advance to see when it's open, if weather will be good for viewing and what you'll be able to see that month. It's a bit difficult to locate as its way off in the corner of the campus and not really visible from the street and requires a short stroll down a paved path to get out to the actual observatory. Walking with my smartphone navigation was definitely the way to go to locate the actual spot. Once you get there there were a couple observatory rooms as well as 5 or so other telescopes set up, each viewing a different moon, planet, nebula, galaxy or supernova. By each telescope, there was a member of the Southwestern Physics or Astronomy department on hand to clearly explain what you will be seeing, how far it is away, as well as give you other interesting facts about it as well as answer any questions you may have. We got a couple fantastic looks at the moon with lots of detailed pics of craters, hardened lava flows, etc... as well as a look at Jupiter, it's rings and moons and also a Supernova and various other galaxies and gas cloud formations. A couple minutes was as long as we waited for any of the telescopes and the staff on hand were very helpful and knowledgable. A great date night activity, or something different to do with the kids and family as well.

This place is awesome!!!…read more Capacity of about 6000 people so you're sure to get a good view of the stage. Over the years I've seen a lot of amazing acts here including Willie Nelson..... I think he loves this place because he plays here almost every year. It's pretty easy to grab a drink since they have a giant standing general admission area. I would try to get there a little bit early because sometimes there's a line and to check in to get in is really slow.

Yikes, this places has A LOT of hate! Yelp fam, y'all are cold blooded! I came here about two weeks…read moreago (the day before I went to the concert at Dickie's Arena). Getting to this venue isn't difficult but what is difficult is getting IN to the venue. Specifically, I had VIP parking but I still had to wait in a single lane to get into the parking lot for more more than 30 minutes. I literally missed the beginning of the show I was supposed to see because I was sitting in my car waiting for the police to direct the one lane of traffic to the general parking lot vs the venue parking lot. Once inside the venue, concert/event goers will see different lines for VIP check-in vs. regular check-in. As I was late to this concert and was VIP, I didn't necessarily have the same problems as the Yelpers who mentioned overly long waits to get in. Once I was in the venue, I went directly to the VIP suites that are located upstairs. The suite I was in had a bar right next to it, therefore when I requested food or drinks, the waitstafff came quickly as they were within earshot. Unlike others who mentioned long waits for service, I think it largely depends upon what tye of admission you are have (general, standing room vs. suite, vs. lower level seating). This is the first outdoor venue I've been to in Central Texas that has suites. It should also be noted that those who have suits also have thier own VIP bathrooms (not porta-potties). Therefore, my opinion of the seating, bathrooms and view of the event is probably slanted because of the type of access I had. *Here's a tip, if you have a membership to the golf course next door, you can sit and listen to the music for free* Once outside the suite, the general merchandise area and event merchandise area was fairly lackluster. Aside from the stereotypical astronomical prices, this section and selections was generally unimpressive. There appeared to be several food options from Texas Barbecue to Nachos with minimal wait for food offerings. The sound of the event was good but not great. This isn't a deal breaker for me as some of the performers had trouble with their equipment. Also for this event, I went to see Blues Travler and John had COVID so this wasn't the best showing for the group. There was another lead singer reading lyrics from a sheet and as everyone knows that no one can be John other than John Popper. I left this concert early as I wanted to avoid the same issue I had getting into the venue with the traffic. I am not sure based upon this showing that I would return to an event here.

The venue can be configured for whatever you need. Billboard's Peso Pluma Concert? Standing GA on the lower level and the standard seating on the upper levels. The iHeartPodcast Awards? A free Christmas concert with a full orchestra? Auditorium style. Surprisingly, even though the seats are mobile, the chairs are surprisingly comfy!! Depending on the staff the event hires, the seamlessness of security check and lines can vary. If it's a SXSW event, you can expect experienced line managers and heavy security. But, if it's something on a smaller scale, it can be tragic and lead to chaotic, lost crowds. I've had the pleasure to be invited to the PNC Hall for an after-party event, and I love how easy it is to access as it's right next to the exit. The space is a bit tiny, but can hold a solid catering spread and reduced bar. IN: the permanent photo booth located in the open air is a nice touch for a keepsake. Also, the bathrooms are well maintained, (but wishing there were more stalls!) OUT: Parking is available via street or in nearby paid garages. The City Hall Garage is the preferred option due to its proximity and sometimes has a reduced rate for event goers.
