This paints me as a stereotypical female, but home improvement stores are just so... boring. But I've been at Bauhaus a few times recently, in order to help the boyfriend pick out household-y things. Among the purchases have been a new toilet paper holder and a new shower head. And like the thoughtful guy he is, he always asks me to weigh in on how I feel about things. And like the disinterested lady I am, I always respond with "es ist mir egal." Because really, I don't care that much. Not about home improvement items, not about practical around-the-house needs, not about project materials. Places like Bauhaus are not only overwhelming (I can never find what I need, and never know where to look), but they're not bright and exciting. They don't beckon me to get lost in the aisles. All of this aside, it is a practical store, which strikes me as particularly German. And although trips to Bauhaus don't top my list of most interesting things to do, I realize the necessity of them, and I'm grateful there is a place relatively close by that has the things we need. So, Bauhaus, you're alright. You're like the lukewarm acquaintance that I run into every once in awhile around town.
