We saw him for no more than 30 minutes. Later when we received an almost $700 bill we were flabbergasted and called the office. They said they had noted us for being there for 1hr and 42 minutes! We were not even in the building for that long. We waited about 30 mins for the doctor and saw him for no more than 30 mins. When I explained this to front desk they said there was nothing they could do because when Doc enters the room he starts the timer at the door. I was stuck with the bill and obviously none too happy. Thankfully, my insurance covered more than 50% of it. Just be aware of your time there and double check with the desk before you leave that they have the correct time recorded.

On the downside, he is difficult to get to see. He is always booked well in advance, which can be tough when you are sick. Also, he is not a preferred provided for the version of Blue Cross that I have, so he is more expensive than doctors in my plan. And he recently joined a service plan where you are supposed to pay a monthly fee to get more access to him. I don't get sick much, so it does not make sense for me to do that. Despite the above, I continue to go to him because he is truly an excellent general practitioner.

I feel that he actually cares about *me* and not just "my problems". And when I walk out of his office, I feel good. I'd recommend him highly, with only one reservation: although he's very familiar with psychopharmacology, he doesn't specialize in it, so if you have very complex medication concerns, you may need to see someone else in addition.

I recently ran out of a necessary medication before my next scheduled appointment and contacted the office to request a short prescription to bridge the gap until my upcoming visit. I was told that Dr. Motazedi would not provide a prescription to cover even a few days. The idea of going three weeks without medication was very concerning and could potentially negatively impact my health. I found the lack of concern for continuity of care troubling, particularly after being a patient of the practice for more than two decades. Unfortunately, this experience was not the only factor in my decision to leave. Over the years, I have experienced multiple issues with the administrative side of the practice. There have been appointments where I waited more than an hour to be seen. On another occasion, I was scheduled for an appointment on a day when the office was closed. I have also received a same day call asking me to come in several hours earlier than my scheduled appointment because the afternoon schedule was light. Experiences like these left me feeling that my time and convenience were not always given the same consideration that was expected of me as a patient. When I ultimately decided to cancel my upcoming appointment and requested my medical records so I could transition to another practice, I explained that I wanted to share feedback about why I was leaving. Unfortunately, the response and tone I received left me with the distinct impression that my concerns and my decision to leave simply did not matter. After more than 20 years as a patient, that interaction felt dismissive, which was disappointing. I understand that medical practices have policies regarding prescriptions, scheduling, and medication management. I also understand that unexpected circumstances arise. However, professionalism, communication, compassion, and respect for a patient's time still matter. After more than two decades with this practice, I did not make the decision to leave lightly. My recent experience, combined with the administrative issues I have encountered over the years and the way my concerns were handled when I decided to leave, ultimately confirmed that it was time for me to find another provider.

For younger patients, he told me that he is still accepting insurance. They way it works for direct care, is that for Medicare patients you pay SignatureMD $1800 per year. Due to the crazy rules of Medicare you can't give him the money. They do. He also will bill your insurance-Medicare and secondary. With the direct care agreement, he will call you and/or text you the very same day. With the money conversation out of the way (isn't it sad that medical care is first about money, then also about care), I think that Dr. Zahalsky does a very good job. FIrst of all, I think he's smart and thinks things through. Second, he genuinely cares. Next, he will make sure that if you were to need to see a high quality specialist, he'll make sure that you obtain an appointment. There is not much more I can ask. The medical care system is broken. Everyone recognizes this. Everybody feels like a insignificant cog in a money system. Doctors and nurses all seem to be burned out. I chose to spend some money so that Dr. Z can afford to spend some time with me-I had a full one hour appointment. I was able to ask each and every one of my questions and have them answered. Paying $1800/yr is not something that everyone can afford. I know that. But if you can pony up the dough, I think it's worth it.

I probably won't go back, because I wasn't a fan of how he handled the fact that I had high bp. He took my bp, noted an absurdly high number, but didn't take the time to check it again later. He ranted about "protein supplements" without any detail on the supplements or even about when I use them, which I rarely was at that point. It's possible that the high blood pressure was due to dining out about 20 times a week--I am on Yelp, after all. He didn't even ask, or let me explain my poor eating habits. I solved the issue myself by watching my sodium intake and eating more fruits and vegetable I won't hold it against him that the two specialists he recommended were not helpful.
