People were waiting outside before the doors opened, and most rushed in and grabbed seats like it was some kind of weird game of musical chairs. Those of us who waited in the queue were told that we wouldn't be able to sit together; ultimately, we ended up in the overflow room, which had advantages and disadvantages. The complimentary/unlimited wine is Franzia: white and red. They were out of white, and the red was, in a word: undrinkable. True story: there were 7 of us in that overflow room, and NONE of us could finish a glass.) Also, the glasses were not exactly sparkling clean, but I guess they were clean enough for the quality of the wine. Also, "unlimited" means "until we run out." (TAKE YOUR OWN WINE.) Good things about the overflow room: - Not nearly as loud or crowded as the main room - We could hear one another - Proximity to the bathroom Lousy things about the overflow room: - Instructor forgot about us/didn't give much instruction at all. We couldn't see any demonstrations. -We were working at coffee tables that were very slippery (clearly not designed for creating great works of art), and our easels collapsed/slid right off the tables numerous times. Hilarious, but not practical. We had a Groupon, and we enjoyed being together, so it was a fun night, but, truth be told, now I have a crappy piece of "art" that I wouldn't hang in my garage and a bad taste in my mouth from the box wine my college-aged son wouldn't serve his drunk friends. The staff was friendly enough, but not overly concerned with customers...which seems weird. I would gladly have spent twice as much to have better beverages and food and the company of my friends at a restaurant or bar, skipping the painting because, let's face it, I'm no artist, and the paintings are, IMHO, awful...almost as bad as the complimentary wine. We had an enjoyable evening because we were with fun people. Would I do this again at this establishment? Probably not. God forbid we end up stuffed into the main room with the loud music and too many people and "unlimited" bad wine.

We were told to join the waitlist, then informed the open tables were being held 15 minutes each for people ahead of us, resulting in an estimated 45-60 minute wait despite several vacant tables. When I questioned this nonsense , the employee repeatedly cited "store policy" and became argumentative, even asking why I was "coming at her." When our table was ready about 20 minutes later, I approached her to clear the air and apologized for any misunderstanding. Instead, she berated me, insisted I had been rude, and claimed "everyone agreed with her." My apology was not an invitation to argue more but she was unable to understand that. The manager then told me not to discuss the incident at my own table, and threatened to make us leave if I continued talking. When we decided to leave instead, the manager smugly said corporate "won't do anything" and twice told me to use her name in my complaint, complete with an eye roll. I first heard about The Rivet last year because of their pottery studio, but I think the space…read moreoverall is relatively new (starting in ~2020). Being unfamiliar with makerspaces, I wasn't really sure what to expect but because I was so desperate to do pottery and my previous pottery studio was already maxed out on memberships, I decided to explore what they had and take the pottery clearance class. In case you're new to it like me, a makerspace is sort of a big workshop with tools and supplies for crafts and arts that might be too large scale or expensive for a home set-up. The Rivet has 8 pottery wheels, a laser cutter, a 3D printer, a jewelry studio, a woodworking area, soon will have textiles and sewing, and probably even more that I'm forgetting about! The way it works is you take a clearance class, which goes over some of the basics (very basic!) and how to use the space and clean up after yourself. I think most clearance classes are around $12. They do not go into teaching techniques for those (or at least not the pottery one). However... they do have lots of classes that DO go over techniques! They have wheel throwing pottery classes as well as some handbuilding, but they also have classes for their other stations. I'm taking a jewelry class next month that I'm pretty excited about. Their prices for everything seem very reasonable, course fees and material fees all seem about average for this sort of thing. Since my only experience so far is their pottery area, the access pass is $7 for a half day (4 hours) or $12 for a full day (8 hours). They also offer monthly memberships but those seem pricier and I'm not sure if my visits will make it worth it (at least for now). I really appreciate that the clay is priced based on what you fire, not what you take as wet clay. I'm still pretty new to wheel-throwing and am in dire need of practice, not necessarily making a lot to keep but practicing throwing so that eventually I can fire a lot. Wheel throwing is difficult and takes time so I'm appreciative that I don't have to pay for all my failures, hah! I think their price is $4/lb for things before they go in the kiln for the first time. A little more than some places but that includes glazes and two firings, so I think it ends up being pretty reasonable. The space has always been clean and the people who work and volunteer there are SO nice. This is really a great way to learn new skills and meet new makers in the community. I highly recommend checking it out!
