We've been taking our pets to Horizon to see Dr. Dowdy for years. They are the kindest, most professional providers of healthcare services for household pets that you will ever find! Dr. Dowdy has seen us through many health issues, both dogs and cats. For example, our large German Shepherd, Nick, had a broken growth plate in his leg, pannus in his eyes, not one but 2 ACL repairs, and more! Yet he lived 14 happy and virtually pain-free years with us thanks to Dr. Dowdy's excellent care (and caring)! Highly recommend this veterinary practice! They're all wonderful and caring! read more

I called as soon as they opened because my cat was extremely sick. I was told they couldn't see him because they were too busy and to try an urgent care clinic. I ended up rushing him to an emergency vet, where he passed away. This was one of the hardest experiences I've been through, and it was heartbreaking not being able to get help from our regular vet when we needed it most. read more

Please do not go to this vet! We took our dog in to get surgery on his leg, the surgery was successful but as they were finishing up the Vet told the Vet Assistant to push antibiotics and for some reason she pushed a lethal dose of pain meds that sent our dog into cardiac arrest and killed him instantly. We have no idea how this could even be possible as the meds should have been double checked many of times. This was straight negligence. We want the assistant to have something done to her and hold the vet clinic accountable. We are letting anyone who will listen know that this mistake cost us our dogs life, and to stay away from this vet office. We have heard from many that this vet office isn't the best. Have been taking my dogs here for 10+ years. But... I am seriously thinking about going elsewhere from now on. What used to be personal care for my furry family members has now become a hodgepodge of who will they see now. Appts are hard to get, don't get simple calls anymore, they say they text yet they don't, medicines are changed from old ones that are now more expensive, corp non-locally owned, $150 for an ear check that they require since they won't give ear medicine without check, that's a rate of $300/hr 5min to examine slide and 15min to examine dog, etc. The last annual review, one dog had his teeth checked, the other didn't, within 1/2 hr, same day, back to back, same Dr. The only bright spot is the occasional tech that may appear that recognizes my dog(s). So, less personal, never see the same Dr, higher prices, corporate ... not sure of any upside to remaining. read more

This used to be the best Vet in the community with an excellent warm front office. If you had an emergency, they always found a way to get you in! Now.... With the new owners, new staff, and completely unaware of the community needs... this Vet is not here for you! No urgent matters, have to book our appoints so far in advance, which shows the very little care givers that are available. My daughter brought our puppy to The Horizon Clinic in Brighton Colorado after trying for a over week to get in at our normally Veterinary Clinic in Fort Lupton and calling many others with no successful openings. I was able to make an appointment within two days. Dr. Tyler Hunt was very nice and knowledgeable in treating our puppy but the person before him was extremely rude and judgmental. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE, trust me. We have taken our Golden here for two years since we got her as a puppy. This vet is unsafe, unsanitary, disorganized and flat out pathetic. We took our Golden to this clinic last week for another follow up visit due to a persistent cough. Originally it was "just allergies." Over and over, they told us it was allergies, just take Claritin. Every time you take your pet here you will see different "vets." I believe they are assistants. The owner and VET doesn't even have an email, he claims. He is never there and has no clue what is going on in his clinic. Absolutely NO clue. After an allergic eye infection, multiple ear infections, chewing and ripping paws raw, persistent heavy cough- NO ONE AT HORIZON EVER LOOKED AT ALL THESE ISSUES AND SAID HEY SHE PROBABLY NEEDS PRESCRIPTION ALLERGY MEDICINE AND AN ALLEGY TREATMENT. NEVER. **I could go on and on about the poor treatment and absolute nightmare this place has been** For example- this summer It took 3 visits for them to get her allergic eye infection under control.... why? More money for them? Sadly that's the conclusion I'm drawing. Last week we take our dog to horizon because she's still coughing and throwing up. They requested we pay $500 for chest X-RAYS or try an antibiotic for kennel cough. We went with the antibiotic as they seemed confident it wasn't serious. This vet will nickel and dime you, constantly out for more $ in a sneaky way. THE ANTIBIOTICS MADE HER EVEN MORE SICK. Our dog got severely more sick so I rushed her to another NEW vet just 5 days after. I WAS AND STILL AM FED UP WITH HORIZON- THEY'RE TRASH FACILITY AND UNEDUCATED STAFF. This new vet prescribed 5 medications with additional joint X-rays for only $500. She was able to diagnose our dog's condition within 20 minutes but said an X-ray would confirm her diagnosis. Sure enough, it came back spot on to what she thought it was. This clean, nice vet (Vista Vet in Erie) determined our dog is suffering from the following: -allergic bronchitis -collapsed trachea by 25% -chronic obstructive pulmonary disease -double ear infection -gingivitis We trusted Horizon as this is our first pet/dog and they completely let us down. Just ask yourself this before going there, what experienced vet misses an ear infection? HOW???? I blame myself and this vet for the severity of our dogs condition. When I spoke with the "head vet" at horizon, i asked him WHAT TWO YEAR OLD DOGS HAVE GINGIVITIS??? He blew smoke up my ass and I flat out told him NO. When we took her there this most recent time she had multiple symptoms: ear infection, gingivitis, coughing, puking...... but they couldn't put it together that it was something more severe? Less than 15% of dogs under 3 get gingivitis. Most of them are chronically suffering from something preventing oxygen to fill their gums. How do you possibly allow a consistent coughing dog who visits every other month with allergic reactions to be mistreated? How do you not pick up on the history? Here's your answer- they don't keep up with their files or genuinely care about your pet. They push paper and don't give a shit. They have sticky notes everywhere, don't use email or any technology. If you can pay the same price if not cheaper somewhere else and have up to date technology, a nice front staff, a vet you can count on and build a relationship with WHY WOULD ANYONE GO HERE? GO TO VISTA ANIMAL HOSPITAL in Erie. Night and day difference, the people treat you and your animal with respect. Spoke to the owner yesterday and he didn't apologize one time. He did not apologize about her illness. All he did was defend what he doesn't even know considering HES NEVER THERE AND IS STILL LIVING IN 1975. He is not up to date on vet health and research. I don't trust him or his staff. If you're going to own a business get a fucking email. Last but not least, the ladies up front are petty and pathetic which just adds to the entire experience. It's unbelievable we even stayed here as long as we did. If this owner responds with some bullshit just know I am telling you the truth about our experience and all I care about is that pets are safe. This place is not safe. Have used this very for 3 years. Downhill fast. Took my dog in for a simple nail trim. Out of the blue, the tech was going to muzzle my dog. My dog has never needed a muzzle. The tech and assistant read my dogs chart and it said she snapped. I'd like to know when this happened and who hurt her to make her snap. Very disappointed. Will find another vet many other good ones who won't hurt your animal. Obviously their techs can't trim nails without hurting your dog. Pretty sad. Wouldn't dream of going anywhere else! We've been going to Horizon for 15 years. Dr. Dowdy has saved two of our pets from life threatening conditions, he is far from arrogant (as one reviewer claimed) and quite possibly the most humble individual one could possibly meet. The clinic is very functional and high tech and offers a wide array of diagnostic and treatment options. Unfortunately, I had to take one star off because they've expanded, because Brighton has expanded...but this means it has become challenging to get an appointment and being put on hold for a long wait. Our preference is to see Dr. Dowdy, but we've seen other doctors and feel confident in their abilities as well. We have never found costs to be outrageous and found when times were tough, Dr. Dowdy was willing to accept installments. read more

On 7/17 I found a lump near my dogs stomach. I got him in to be checked that day at Horizon Veterinary Clinic. The vet checked it, he stuck a needle in the lump and tested what he got out. He said nothing to worry about, its just a fatty mass. On Aug 1 (16 days later) he wasn't looking right, so I took him to the ER. The ER Vet checked the lump along with others and WE WAITED. The results came back that Rusty had Lymphoma. The lump that was checked at Horizon was lymphoma. On the physical report the vet said Rusty's LYMPH NODES WERE NORMAL... WELL GUESS WHAT, THEY WERE NOT NORMAL. Rusty got so bad, 27 days later, MY RUSTY WAS DEAD!!! So thanx for NOTHING, HORIZON VETERINARY CLINIC The last week of July 2018, we were at Lowes with our English Bulldog in the cart, while walking our Frenchie. A guy came to us and asked if we wanted his English Bulldog, Rusty. We rescued Rusty on Aug 1, 2018. I took him to his first vet visit, found out he was deaf from ear infections that were never treated. His tail pocket was infected, along with his paws, and he had an eye infection. NEVER, EVER AGAIN. Ever. Today was my second visit to this vet clinic for my 17-month-old Pug. I had called to schedule an appointment a few days in advance and detailed the items I needed done for my dog (express anal glands, trim nails, check and clean ears). I arrived a full 30 minutes early for my appointment on the odd chance they might be running ahead of schedule. Not so much. The two older gals who work the counter and the phones were as snippy as could be, just as they had been on our first visit. The one who sits closest to the exam rooms seems to be the more b*tchy of the two and curtly stated the purpose of my visit to be for the glands expression. I mentioned the other two items and she "bit my head off" scolding me that my appointment length was only 10 minutes and how I should have mentioned these things on the phone (I had). I said "well, skip the nails but I do need the vet to look at my dog's ears." She snapped back in a nasty Church Lady tone, "It's ONLY a ten-minute appointment. They can't POSSIBLY look at his ears." Then a very large dog named Brie stopped by for what the front desk called her daily social visit. Clearly the customer was favored by the front desk duo. Next came three more appointments and a new walk-in. All were seen before us as if I was being punished for requesting the ear check. And so we continued to wait in the 80-degree waiting room. Finally we were ushered back to an exam room where we sat another ten minutes as three vet assistants and one of the front counter old bags had a leisurely coffee klatch. The female vet is actually very nice and helpful but one has to get past her extremely unhelpful and rude gatekeepers. For this reason I have made this a two-star rather than a one-star. My dog, Poppy, was in desperate need of a dental, unfortunately we did not do a good job keeping up with her teeth and bad teeth run in her breed. We recently moved to Colorado Springs so I took her to a vet here for a pre dental exam. They did blood work on her as she is around 9 years old-and received a quote of 1200-1700. I scheduled anyway even though it seemed high. Before moving we had a dental at Horizon on our 14 year old Jack Russell and felt so comfortable with Dr. Hunt and the rest of the staff that I decided to make the drive to Brighton to get Poppy's done. She had to do an initial exam and lucky for me, they had a dental appt that was canceled so they offered to take her in right then for her dental. I was quoted 800-1200 but told it would likely be on the lower end as most of her teeth were likely quite loose. Well it was 805!! And she came out like a champ. Dr. Hunt was so kind as honestly, he could have made me feel worse than I did for not tending to her teeth sooner, but he didn't. They took great care of her and our other dog, Ellie. My husband and I are so grateful for Dr. Hunt and the staff at Horizon!! They were wonderful!! read more

I have been taking my dog here for almost 3 years. Great services, until lately. I took my dog for her yearly exam and was told she needed $225 in vaccines, good thing I didn't have the money at the time. I called the next day to schedule her vaccines and was told she just needed a booster. I take my dog in for the booster, the tech or vet whoever it was told me my dog needed a vaccine, I told her no she just needs the booster. After arguing back and forth she finally looked at my chart and seen she just needed the booster. A few hours later I had to rush my dog back because she had a bad allergic reaction to the booster (if that is what was really given to her) and when I was ready to leave( after them complaining because they were getting ready to leave early, but couldn't until they gave my dog Benadryl and Steroids) I was charged for an emergency visit! This was caused by whatever immunization you gave her. Before this I had taken my dog in for one of her shots and a nail trim, which I paid for on my way out, but I received a bill for her nail trim a couple of weeks later. So I paid for it twice. Very disappointing. I will not be taking my dog back to this place. I feel terrible because I referred many people to you. read more

This is a pretty good vet clinic, it is small enough that I'm recognized as this point and the vet (I see Dr. Mitchell) does a pretty good job at remembering the health history of my pets and she is quite thorough about diagnosis and treatment. I do think they are on the expensive side and that I'm not often given a set of treatment possiblities that have a range of prices, instead I'm given the most throrough treatment plan with no concern for fiance. I'd rather be given a few options and a range of prices. It is also expensive to go here for routine work like vaccinations or teeth, for that I recommend checking out http://www.everycreaturecounts.org/ where a dental is 30-60 rather than 500. read more

We found this clinic when we had to put our beloved mastiff down due to pleural effusions. They worked with us to keep our buddy as calm as possible, without having to muzzle him, even though he had fear aggression issues. We were overwhelmed by the staff's kindness. We revisited the office again for our cat this past weekend. Even though they had a full schedule, they didn't want our kitty to wait over the weekend to see the dr in case it was something serious causing her issue. They managed to squeeze her in. This vet is so nice!!! He has been helping my cat for the past few days with a urinary blockage and even cut me a break on the bill because of how expensive it can be. I was new to the area, but used this office to euthanize my dear old cat who had cancer. The front desk staff were so accommodating and kind. They didn't make us wait up front, and gave me all the time I needed. The vet, Dr. Dowdy the younger, was so calming and comforting. Along with her tech, they made a horrible experience peaceful and bearable for both me and my cat. I will definitely go back, especially with my yellow lab. Facility is a bit time worn, and you can also buy bail bonds across the street, but worth it for the good staff. They also were more reasonably priced than other vets in the area. read more

From the first time we called to make an appt for our dog to the last appt, everyone was so friendly and compassionate. Testing showed our dog Cera had cancer, Dr. Sunshine walked us through what to expect over the time we had with her and was exactly right. We ended up having to put our dog to sleep shortly after her diagnosis. Dr. Sunshine and her asst stayed with us the whole time. I truly felt like they cared about our pet as much as we did. We just went to pick up Ceras ashes and along with a really pretty silver box they also attached a clay paw print they took after we left. It was so thoughtful it brought tears to my eyes. I'm the caregiver for my father who lives in Brighton. My dads dog, jake, has gone to horizon since he was a puppy so I continue to take him there. I see Dr. Reyes. I really love her, but, I wasn't able to get an appointment with her and had to take jake to Dr. Sunshine last Monday. Jakes appointment was for expression of anal glads and to have the blood draw for heart worm. Dr. Reyes would usually do everything in the room with me present. This time, a tech came to get jake to take him to a "treatment" room in the back. Jake needs a muzzle so I put it on him. Then, the tech put a ROPE around his neck and proceeded to DRAG him! I flipped out, picked him up (he's a dachshund) and gave him to her...which was met with a huge helping of attitude! She then returned jake to me 15 mins later talking down to me and telling me how it's much better for the animal to be away from it's "mommy"...that he behaved SO well in the back! Dr. Reyes and I have never had a problem with jake! I loaded him up, started to drive...and turned to look at jake in the back and found that he couldn't open his eyes! I took him back, where the tech AGAIN told me how good he was...AND the Dr. As well! What the hell does that have to do with the fact that there was nothing wrong with him when we came in and now I have a dog that acts like someone beat the crap out of him and he can't open his eyes?! I left in disgust and was able to find another vet that I could talk to. He diagnosed a condition called Horners Syndrome that can be brought on by neck injuries! And that DRAGGING is not only unacceptable but also the height of unprofessional! I then called 10 vets...TEN...and was told the same. I'm really sad and angry, my father is so upset. I rushed him to Horizon, and coincidentally and fortuitously it was right as they opened. The receptionists were quick to respond and get us into an exam room immediately. Dr. Sunshine, the assisting surgeons and the vet techs did an outstanding job and my dog is recovering well with no complications or infections. It also cost about half of what I was afraid it would. After Bridge Street Vet Clinic told me to either wait a few days for an appointment or just go elsewhere when my male cat developed a blocked urethra and was howling in pain, I had to find someone else in a hurry. This is absolutely the WORST vet I have ever taken my pets to. If you are new to the Brighton area and are looking for a place to take your pets for care, look somewhere else. My wife and I recently moved to Brighton and received a letter in the mail from Horizon trying to drum up business. On this letter they offered %20 off for new clients on the first visit. I have two female kitties who needed to get spayed so I called to see if they would honor the discount on two spays...the girl who answered asked someone and said that would be fine, and they would honor the discount on BOTH surgeries. When I called the next week to schedule an appointment for my kitties, another gal told me no they couldn't honor the discount because they would lose money- First inconsistency in their lack of communication. I decided to take them anyway since our old vet was quite a bit further to drive to. Took them in at 7:45 A.M. the day of the surgery...I asked the woman helping us what time they should both be done, she said about 5 P.M., and I would receive a phone call when the first one was out of surgery and when the second one would be going in to surgery. 5 P.M. rolls around and still no phone call...So I call them. The receptionist must have known we got put on the back burner because she immediately asked me to hold. A few minutes later the doctor picks up and says "I was just about to call you...." Ok, first of all my kitties have been there for over nine hours and I should have recieved a call a LONG time before that. The doctor explains that there had been an emergency with a dog and that's why they only got one done and not the other. When asked what time the emergency came in, she replied right before I called her. There is ABSOLUTELY no reason why they had to be there with no food since the previous evening (they had to fast due to the anesthesia) for 9 hours and they couldn't call me to tell me that the second kitty wasn't going to have her surgery. Here's my complaint- I understand emergency's happen, but when their office closes at 8 P.M., and I had to call at 5, they should have know LONG before that that they couldn't get to her surgery. I went in to pick them both up and gave the staff (including the doctor) a piece of my mind for the lack of consideration and communication, and they didn't even seem to care. They said they were sorry I was upset, but didn't apologize for screwing up. If they would have called earlier in the day to say that they couldn't get them both done (before the emergency at 5) I could have taken the other one home to get something to eat. These people who run this vet are unprofessional, don't care about anything but their money, and If you love you pets as children like we do, don't take them to Horizon. They get an "F" grade from me. And the only reason they even get a one star rating from me is because I had to pick at least one. read more

I highly recommend this place of extraordinary veterinary care - wish my human medical experiences were this good. I have been going to Horizon Vet for 15 years and they have taken amazing care of my beloved pets (Sammy Sam, Gurdie Mae, Jefferson, Micah Lou, Scrappy, Sweets, Marmalade Jo and Tortuga Tortilla). They have very low turnover with staff - so they get to know the animals and it is so great to see the same happy and experienced staff year after year. I've been taking my fur babies to Horizon for 19 years now, have never had a bad experience with them. Made the mistake once of going to a "low cost" clinic for a spaying, that poor baby was sent home in a mess and with nothing for pain when the sedative wore off she was in obvious discomfort for several days. A few months later I made sure my other dog (same breed as the first one) was done through Horizon, it was a little more expensive but what a difference, she was cleaned up, giving pain medication to take home and was back to her usual silly self the next morning.
