This is a weird little stretch of grass and not much else. I like to give my dog a rest here if we've taken a long walk together, but otherwise you really can't do much here. read more

The last time I did this my Apple Watch said I had climbed what is equivalent to 22 flights of stairs. The final stretch is steep and your legs will definitely know that you earned the view. The beautiful flowers and trees also make the walk worth it during the spring and summer months. There is a nice resting area at the top. I am also happy to now see snack vendors setting up here because a cold drink really helps before walking back down. As someone who lives in the area I would not drive up. Street parking is limited and always seems to be full. The hunt for parking might become its own workout. I am not sure if it is officially part of the park but there is also a playground for kids a few sets of steps downhill. Do not forget to walk over to Parsons Gardens to see the flowers during the summer. You should also stop at Marshall Park for views of Elliott Bay and the cruise ships on a clear day. The walk along the West Queen Anne retaining walls also offers beautiful scenic views. Kerry Park is a must visit in Seattle. It is also a great local walk to enjoy with your dog friends.

However, this park is so amazing I think I can rate it 5/5 stars without needing to visit the visitor center! Discovery Park is Seattle's largest park and has amazing views of the Cascade and the Olympic Mountain ranges. You can head down to the tidal beaches to look at sea critters if you time it during a very low tide, or visit any time to hike and admire the forest, cross the open meadows, and listen to the streams crisscrossing the park. There's even a lighthouse! During summer season, there's a free shuttle bus Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays to help you get around the park, as it's so large some people might be put off by the distances needed to walk around the various points of interest.

I'd give it 4 stars 'cause its green, but urban campers leave their butts and the city isn't as good about cleaning this park as others such as the glitzy park across the street. Did I say KPP was tiny? Unlike Counter Balance Park across the street, this one is actually Green :) with a bit of grass, some trees and plants growing and covering .9 of the .9 acres. It's a nice place when urban campers aren't there to watch traffic pass by. While it's not iconic nor will it ever be a tourist attraction, it's certainly worth a nod as a you drive by it...

The lake is perfect for…read moreboating, kayaking, and offers a peaceful backdrop for fishing--anglers can catch perch, trout, bluegill, and bass. People also swim informally around the boat launch area, though there's no designated swimming zone. The fishing dock is broken and never repaired, so fishing is mostly done from the shore. However, the park's upkeep is severely lacking. The bathrooms are basic--just a single stall outhouse--and often people leave waste on the floor, as the stall is rarely used. The bathrooms frequently run out of supplies, so bring your own toilet paper. The gate, too, is broken and overgrown into the bushes, never fully closing--even though the park has a posted closing time. This leaves the park vulnerable at night, and some people experiencing homelessness have been sleeping there. I really hope this lake gets the care it deserves--because in terms of nature, it's breathtaking. If you visit, just be mindful, stay safe, and enjoy the scenery.
